Able to put friends into groups !

Idea 922 | Posted in by | March 17, 2010

My idea is to be able to group your friends into different groups. So one group could be clan members, friends, randomers, cod addicts or what ever group you want

Absolutely!!!!!

I’d love to have my friends grouped by the games we play together.

I’ve mentioned this on the forums before and no one responded to my thread.
When you get close to the limit on friends (100), like I have, you start to forget where you know some of them from.

p.s i also forgot, also you can select that group of friends and say if its a clan group you can send a message to the whole of that group

CheesePie13  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:04 pm

Maybe a group for people you know in real life.

Good Idea

Kouzmich1  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:05 pm

Yes , that would be good , since the friend list increased it’s hard to maintain your friends.

Will-2K9  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:06 pm

yhh great idea I just tried to post the same idea
Hopefully sony adds this

peperspraygrimme  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:08 pm

thanks for your support guys, it would also increase the possibility of more friends as you can group them so they dont get over crowded and make a very long list of friends

Yes this would be a great feature I was going to request it as well

I was getting ready to post this until I seen yours, great idea! And increase the friend limit while you’re at it.

Well, there’s certainly room for improvement. I for one think you should be able to tag your friends’ profiles.

Whenever you have to sort though them you just filter them by their tags. This way you’d get more freedom on sorting your PSN friends.

Anybody agrees with me?

I had this ideia also.
I complement your ideia with the use of tags.

You add tags for each friend and then each tag becomes a folder in friends part of XMB.

Example:
- Friend A: Job, MW2
- Friend B: Family, MW2
- Friend C: MW2, FIFA10
- Friend D: Family, FIFA10

The XMB will have the following folders:
- Family: B and D
- FIFA10: C and D
- Job: A
- MW2: A, B and C

This is a fantastic idea that should be simple to implement.

It should work on a tag system that lets us create a tag and set it to a friend. That way, I can tag all of my mates who play COD and all of my mates who play FIFA. Obviously some will play both, so they will have both tags and then when I sort by COD they will appear in the COD list.

I’d have one for people with Mic’s, one for real friends, one for each game and another for people who I don’t really like playing with.

we need this so bad! it can’t be that hard. its just a folder! a single folder! one more \

PeaTearGriffon  |  March 18th, 2010 at 12:15 am

Great idea, some of us are close to the limit of how many friends we can have (100) and scrolling through them all looking for your friend becomes annoying. Its sorted in last online status so you don’t really get a hint as to where they are. Not really that big of a deal, but a minor inconvenience that many of us would appreciate if it were updated.

jayrockslife  |  March 18th, 2010 at 1:15 am

@14, thats exactly how I imagined sony could make it work. I thought more of Windows Live Messenger though. You can put friends in categories (which are the same as groups) and they can be in multiple categories.

Would be cool if this did get implemented if under sort by > Status, Name, Groups and have each group expandable/collapsable by selecting it and pressing X

I’m glad I wasn’t alone in thinking that this was a great idea. Much like in AIM or MSN, being able to group friends. Sometimes you have too many you meet online, in different forums, in games, or in real life. It would be nice to categorize them as FAMILY, or CO-WORKERS, CLASSMATES, ONLINE FRIENDS. etc

Been wanting this for years!

I just want to add my FIFA friends in one list, Killzone in another etc etc.

I don’t see why this hasn’t been added yet?? we can group games, videos and images, so why not friends!?!?!

Hope this gets done! Its more important than cross-game-chat that everyone keeps banging on about it IMO

NoobianGod  |  March 18th, 2010 at 6:51 am

Yep. I was going to bring this up tomorrow if I didn’t find one. Thanks for mentioning it!

24

PapySnake  |  March 18th, 2010 at 6:53 am

oh yeahh, it’s necessary!

An european gamer!! ;)

nemo20000  |  March 18th, 2010 at 9:13 am

This is an excellent idea and very similar to the “Album” tag used by all the other XMB categories.

On the other hand, I would like to be able to include friends in MORE than one group at the same time.

26

delta__nine  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:01 am

prob one of the best ideas I have seen so far!

27

spiveyrat  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:27 am

I’ve been wanting this for a while too. But I would like to see it across all categories… Friends, Games, Music, Video, Pictures, etc. I would like the ability to create sub-folders under each of these with the ability to name them and customize as needed.

Spyroluver88  |  March 18th, 2010 at 1:16 pm

I have been saying for awhile that I would like a place where I can make myself a little note on who the friend actually is, too. With an extensive friends list I sometimes forget who the person really is. This is a great idea!! Thanks for posting!

29

canadianstryker  |  March 18th, 2010 at 3:05 pm

I would like to have my clan members in a group, my Home buddies in a group and people i know in real life in a group.

thedude6666  |  March 18th, 2010 at 4:26 pm

I like this idea, would love to see it on the XMB.

Makes things easier and tidy.

M7md_Zero  |  March 18th, 2010 at 8:04 pm

I was going to post the same case.. luckily the computer got confused and restarted (weired!)
This something very important.. add to that if the friend list number is expanded this would be very helpful

Vito_R  |  March 19th, 2010 at 8:38 am

Yep! I have been wanting something like this on the 360 for a long time. It would force Microsoft to work on it as well!

34

MixMonsterMike  |  March 21st, 2010 at 12:30 pm

This option is long overdue. We need friend sorting ASAP!!!

35

Cesarcsrf  |  March 21st, 2010 at 12:39 pm

this would be awesome, it would be more faster to load and way more easy no navigate

36

liquidypoo  |  March 22nd, 2010 at 7:17 pm

I didn’t vote on this for a while because I was indifferent to the idea. Then I kinda realized that I have good way to use this idea, if it were to be implemented. Voted up, good sir.

37

Zta  |  March 23rd, 2010 at 8:19 am

Why would anyone vote this suggestion down? I think the vote down-option is being misused on nearly all suggestions… I do don’t think I understand its proper use.

38

Fakerz1  |  March 23rd, 2010 at 10:13 am

Please make this possible!

39

Lendorien  |  March 25th, 2010 at 12:53 am

This suggestion is a no brainier. Most popular Instant messenger clients allow users to do this and have for years.

The feature allows one to group people together based on user preference, such as… clan members, family, school buddies, etc.

This should be an easy feature to implement too.

Mattchewie  |  March 26th, 2010 at 1:08 pm

I say give an option to add a “friendly” name too. Like AIM etc. I have people that I don’t play with ALL the time and I sometimes forget who they are

41

Anagura-Raziel  |  March 27th, 2010 at 12:55 am

as long as your friends can’t see what you’ve labelled them as, i’d support this.

42

43

sanji_blue  |  March 28th, 2010 at 9:57 am

Please, we totally need this. I really don’t know why we don’t have this simple feature.

44

NoobianGod  |  March 29th, 2010 at 2:27 pm

Fingers crossed that this is included in a soon to be released Firmware.

45

Ultra_Keyblade  |  April 5th, 2010 at 5:26 pm

Best friends, just friends…. favorites.

YES! this definitly needs to happen!!

48

BalramRules  |  April 12th, 2010 at 11:40 am

YEH!
Like, a group for:
1. School
2. BEST FRIENDS!
3. Family
4. Occupational Friends.
5. University mates.
6. Childhood friends.
7. Teachers (kinda silly, but I’d do it, literally, coz most of my teachers have PS3s LOL! XD).
8. ENEMIES! (I Know it’s silly to keep your enemies on your friends list, but you know the saying…

“Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies EVEN CLOSER!”

9. Random people you met of the PlayStation Network! LOL! XD

49

shootingyoume  |  April 23rd, 2010 at 4:51 am

This would be a great feature, the friends list is soooo unorganized on the PSN right now.

Spooon  |  May 26th, 2010 at 7:44 pm

it would be nice if we could add notes next to our friends’s name or rename them
