Hell yeah! But, I doubt it will ever happen. CTRC has created stupid laws when it comes to Digital Video Services. This is why we will never get the PlayStation®Network Video Store in Canada or Netflix, until these laws in our country are gone.

Well, I don’t think is just because of CTRC laws. Xbox live already have Movies and TV series available for download. When Sony announced it was going to be available in Europe I thought they would include us. Hasn’t happen yet!

CRTC dosent really care about this particular issue. They have stated over and over, they will not deny something like this. It has nothing to do with them so please get your facts straight. It is all licensing, etc and Sony being lazy.

Sony doesn’t care about Canada, unfortunately. Its showing, Sony. Hopefully you are listening. If not, I am (as much as I hate to by a another console) might have to look at the competition. Really unfortunate.

i think we will see it at some point…hopefully before the end of this year…it is not the CRTC i have an e-mail from them saying the have no control over what is distributed on the internet. the issue is Sony not having the rights to distribute the content to us Canadians in this digital format.

Will people ever stop blaming the CRTC, even when it’s not their fault? :)

The zip.ca company (which is the Canadian equivalent of Netflix) has tried to bring online streaming. Here’s an extract from their faq :

“At this time, Zip.ca has the technical ability to provide this service, however content owners have been reluctant to provide the necessary distribution rights for this type of distribution in Canada. As soon as conditions allow, we are set to fulfill.”

So, you see, not CRTC’s fault!

The problem that content owners don’t seem to understand is… People want to download their content. If you don’t offer a legal way to download video, people will download it illegally!

Canada is a hotbed for piracy. I know 40-year-old women who use bittorrent! The longer Canadians don’t have a choice, the more Canadians turn to piracy, and the harder it will be to get them to pay for legal downloads once they are offered.

Yeah the CRTC argument is useless, since Xbox Live members and especially itunes users can rent and own movies on their respective mediums.

It is only a lazyness factor, Canada is one of the only major country that lacks this feature now, and that needs to be changed

NotoriousGamer  |  March 18th, 2010 at 12:53 am

Canada is never getting it. Its been asked for a trillion times before.

If there’s no plans to ever give Canada the full PSN experience that its neighbouring countries receive, can we at least have all the PS Store icons removed from under video and everywhere else then?

My only question is why has iTunes been allowed to do this?? If so then there has to be something for Sony to do to make this happen. Just a thought. Maybe a big E3 announcement??!!

I could care less cuz I don’t watch movies much anyway. I have like 20 blu-ray movies that my gf bought and only watched like 5.
But maybe sony could get me to start! :)
