It would be nice for us to be able to communicate with our friends online while we are playing different games using our Official PS3 Bluetooth Headset.

Nah, sounds like a stupid idea. Why would i want to talk to someone in a completely different game?
Pointless…

Galvanise_ | March 17th, 2010 at 1:26 pm
Here’s hoping its free to all members and not an exclusive feature to the upcoming premium service.

almighty-slayer: “Nah, sounds like a stupid idea. Why would i want to talk to someone in a completely different game?”
Well for those of us with friends, who like to chat about what we’re up to, it comes in very handy. Not to mention playing the same single player game at the same time. Helping each other find collectibles in a game, defeat a hard boss. It’s also useful in games with their own multiplayer voice chat, but not wanting to listen to annoying randoms, and just talk to friends that you’re playing with.

Let’s face it, the only reason anyone wants this is because XBL has it. Noone will use it. I mean, presumably if you are playing a game you want to actually concerntrate on the game – not talk to someone else.

METLGEAR | March 17th, 2010 at 1:32 pm
Also not only during games. I should be able to join a chat while surfing the web or watching a movie without interruption of the program i am using. It shouldn’t matter if it be a game or something like Folding@home.

“Not wanting to listen to annoying randoms” isn’t that what the mute option is for?
And hey, no reason to tell me i have no friends. I’m allowed my own opinion.

almighty-slayer, stop complaining about it, if you’re not going to use it, then don’t. Personally I really want this feature.

SeanScythe | March 17th, 2010 at 1:34 pm
I wouldn’t mind having it cause when I’m playing games like Infamous or Batman:AA I would have loved having this so my friends playing the same game could talk to me rather then text chat. If you don’t want to use it you don’t have to. Just like the voice changer I don’t use it and I find it annoying but some people like it.

Jebus1992 | March 17th, 2010 at 1:34 pm
I feel that if this was introduced alot of people would use it so the can talk to other players if they are both doing the story of a game and can help each other with missions or just use it for general chat

Darth-Krayt | March 17th, 2010 at 1:38 pm
I only want this feature if it’s NOT allowed durring online play. For 2 main reasons. 1. when you are playing online and have a headset, you should be communicating with people you are playing with. And 2. when I had a 360 (traded it in a long time ago), whenever my friends were using cross-game chat, they were lagging all over the place, and their character would stop teleporting around when they weren’t using it. It’s a waste of bandwidth and contributes to lag. It should only be allowed if you are playing offline or are on the XMB/browser.

Been waiting for this feature for a good while and hoping it hits this year. And sooner rather than at the end of 2010. Its a great feature to help setup games.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen friends jump online while I’m in the middle of a game and I can’t stop to type them a message on my status and when I’ll be ready to jump on a game with them. Sometimes I’ll be just finished with a Death Match or Co-Op game and my friend left because he got no response.
Plus, Sony needs to add better voice chat communication in Home. Anyone care to start a PlayStation.Blog Share thread on that?

We NEED this! Hardcore or casual gamer, it doesn’t matter. We all need a better way to communicate with friends, especially when playing different games!

TheMissingLink | March 17th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
This is the ONLY reason I’m holding on to my 360.
Being in a party chat would make me buy *every single cross-platform game* for PS3. Make it happen.
Pretty please?

WE NEED THIS PLAYSTATION

Robert1995 | March 17th, 2010 at 1:48 pm
Sure XBL has this, but so does PC. You could say XBL copied this from PC. How hard is it to play a PC game with skype running in the background??
Playstation with a cross game voice communication feature would ultimately make 98% of PSN users happier. The 2% have no friends.

dragonleader33 | March 17th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
This will be the most voted and Sony already knows it I think. Just a matter of time before they give us something.

trumpet1394 | March 17th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
That sounds like a pretty good idea. But if ya’ll have a cell phone or Skype, whats the point?

Dex_DarkDefender | March 17th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
I agree with Darth-Krayt! All that he said seems reasonable and it should be done!

that would be awesome!!!

We have been waiting patiently for three years for this feature
24
DNAgent | March 17th, 2010 at 1:58 pm
PS3 needs cross-game chat and it should be free. It shouldn’t be a premium feature ever because if I get the premium but my friends don’t then cross-game chat would be pointless as they wouldn’t have it so I couldn’t talk to them.
25
ExGhost888 | March 17th, 2010 at 2:01 pm
People who say this aint needed dont really understand how hard it is not to talk with your friends while youre playing different games all the time
26
jeff_dorta | March 17th, 2010 at 2:04 pm
Could be a nice feature
27
O_Razor_O | March 17th, 2010 at 2:11 pm
Having this would only prove its slogan “Playstation 3: It Only Does Everything”!!!!
28
Juben | March 17th, 2010 at 2:14 pm
As long as i can disable this feature when i am playing rpgs or racing i guess.
29
DeadSpider | March 17th, 2010 at 2:18 pm
Don’t see the point. If your not in the same game communicating as a team. It would prob cause even more load on the PSN.
Besides that’s what cell phones are for :-p

Gogo_ZvC | March 17th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
This should be limited in some games. For example take SOCOM confrontation, easy for you buddy to watch your back and talk to you as he spectates. I have no idea how it works on Xbox 360, but this is something I want, but it should be limited to some point to prevent cheating.

Gogo_ZvC | March 17th, 2010 at 2:20 pm
your buddy*, now that I mention it. We need editable comments!

TheOneBlackMage | March 17th, 2010 at 2:21 pm
I would use this to talk to people in one game while I am in another, so I know when their round is ending.
A good example is if we’re both playing Battlefield Bad Company 2, or Modern Warfare 2, and couldn’t join the same game. This would be an easy way to chat and rejoin to squad up once the round is done.
Doing this over messages takes too long, and I’ve got a keyboard to type the messages.

CheesePie13 | March 17th, 2010 at 2:24 pm
It would be fun just to chat to your friends while in a different game such as a single player game.
34
SeanScythe | March 17th, 2010 at 2:37 pm
To the people saying just use a cell phone. Out of the 50 people on my friends list only 10 have my cell #. I don’t want to give out my phone # to someone I don’t know personaly. But if I’m playing a game like Demons Souls and a friend of mine is playing Infamous and wants help or to just chat we should be able to without stopping the game to send text messages.

Don’t underestimate the importance of this, Sony… XBL has this feature, and the internet is constantly ablaze with comments about how much better Live is than PSN, and how that’s a reason to own a 360. Well the main reason anybody says this is because of the cross-game chat feature. If you want that stigma of “you what you pay for, and you pay nothing for PSN” to go away, then you have to start adding in the features that 360 fans lord over PS3 fans’ heads, which is pretty much just cross-game chat. Add in that feature, and what argument do they have left to claim that Xbox Live is better? And with PSN being on par with XBL but Xbox users have to PAY for Live, and PSN users get it for free, it really sends the message out there that Live isn’t a reason to get a 360 over a PS3. If you’re concerned about selling more consoles and not losing sales to the Xbox, then adding this feature I think will be a BIG help. Not to mention that when 360 owners see games they are interested in on the PS3, if they see that PSN has the same features they’re accustomed to having Xbox Live, they won’t be as hesitant to buy a second console and encourage their friends to get a PS3 and join them in social gaming on the PS3 as well.

ItsMeDarrell | March 17th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
This is almost a must at this point; we should have this. Please don’t hold off on this just to add it to a paid service. That would be very insulting. It’s something that would put the PSN on par with all other services and surpass them because it’ll be free.
43
Carl-G | March 17th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
I don’t want it. I can’t see the point chatting to someone who is playing another game? POINTLESS
44
PhlebiacMendax | March 17th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
I wouldn’t mind if they did it, but I’d never use it. It seem a lot of people want it just so the Xbox can shut up about us not having it. I think I’d prefer if Sony spent their time on more important features quite frankly.
45
Cesarcsrf | March 17th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
yes like Sony didn’t saw this one coming…
but yeah it would be cool

We DON’T NEED THIS PPL,
Nuff said!!!
47
warewolf15 | March 17th, 2010 at 2:51 pm
this would be a nice feature to add to the playstation. And it doesn’t metter if PC or XBL already have. The only I have to say is that fun is fun, so if it’s fun then it should added to the playstation 3.

makingmusic | March 17th, 2010 at 2:56 pm
Yes! This is a must.
And it should be free, not part of some sort of “premium service”. I’m fine paying for things that actually cost money to support, like Netflix and the rumored ability to save games via a cloud server – I’d gladly pay for that! – but things like cross game voice chat and ps2 BC, things that cost nothing to support once they are implemented via firmware, should be free.
Charging for them would be just as BS as Microsoft charging people to play online via their own internet connection using their own 360 as a host.
