Idea 180 | Posted in by | March 17, 2010

It would be nice for us to be able to communicate with our friends online while we are playing different games using our Official PS3 Bluetooth Headset.

@GRJoker If they could, they would. The reason they haven’t yet is there is a RAM issue.

3102

FantomPhox  |  February 7th, 2012 at 10:31 am

@DavidBallZ exactly. the hardware is set where there is 128MB of Ram dedicated per the for itself. thus if all 7 cores are dedicated to running the game and in game chat and the last core (the 8th core that has been theorized as turned off) is used for the in game XMB then there is no more recourse to work with. not with newer or older games. they would have to ether rewrite the firmware in a way to force the process run time to be like the average pc (would take alot of changing changes that can break the older games and current games from playing) or release a piece of hardware that is pre built for better load distribution. (the PSvita if i remember has that)

andros4128  |  February 10th, 2012 at 7:08 pm

i would love this feature but the only concern for me is that it will either be for playstation plus or Playstation will be sued by XBOX.

The ps3 is the reason I bought an xbox. They just can’t catch up with the times. There’s rampid cheating in games, just an aweful expereince..

Ok people I vote YES for this. Seriously! The people that are saying NO are the ones that have XBOX and arnt even a fan of the PS3. Why vote NO for this. Come on people, This is just an excuse to run out and buy a XBOX. Heck, Ive been a fan of Sony since the first PS in 1995. I want this and I think it will be fine. Why is this pointless? What would make you think that something like this would be pointless? What is wrong with having this fantastic feature that 50%/75% are going to love.

Even if I would have to pay a small fee to have this feature ($2.99 a month) that would still at least cut out all the people that dont want this and the ones that do. Simple mathematics and get with the program people.

This is an amazing idea. Ive always wanted to be able to chat with my friends but not wanna play the same game as them!

3114

KingTygerVII  |  February 24th, 2012 at 12:46 pm

I personally like this idea, because you can play a game and talk to a cluster of friends online playing other games and stuff.

3115

budman107  |  March 1st, 2012 at 10:04 am

sony should add this to ps3 cause the playston vitas have i mean really ps3 players wanted this way before the vita came out

3116

Solid_Ian  |  March 3rd, 2012 at 5:43 am

How is this still not “in development?”

3117

BigPaja  |  March 3rd, 2012 at 5:47 am

I hope You all know that this feature is not available because the PS3 architecture doesn’t allow for it. Shuhei Yoshida himself said so.

3118

speedenforcment  |  March 5th, 2012 at 5:31 pm

it would be nice for me because i play world at war and it would be nice to talk to my friend and get a good time to play a game of multiplayer or zombies, though its only down would be, unless they possibly made it where theres a way to turn it off, your ear(s) would be blasted with a million voices so you’de be ticked off at sony for adding it. thats the weird thing, we hope for a new feature, and then we’re ticked off about that feature. but, as long as sony avoids that, your ideas golden

3119

chrispen8  |  March 10th, 2012 at 11:53 pm

I really don’t understand how the 360 can do cross game chat with lower specs and lower RAM and the PS3 can’t. The PS3 is an amazing system and I would love to play games like Mass Effect or Beyond Good and Evil while speaking with friends.

3120

STI311bHP  |  March 12th, 2012 at 10:13 am

Are there really that many down votes? What would be the down side of that? Srrsly!

3121

ArcticMuskox  |  March 17th, 2012 at 7:39 pm

Sounds like a good idea,as long as it’s a free optional feateur and not an psn exclusive.

3122

Avenger1228  |  March 17th, 2012 at 7:58 pm

The reason this can’t happen is the split RAM. 256Mb for system and 256MB for video. 360 can do this because RAM is unified ( a total of 512Mb). This is going to be a feature for the PS4 for sure… I hope… for everybody not just plus users.

3123

punkiller69  |  March 19th, 2012 at 2:01 am

ya i would like that to. cause the xbox 360 does that. u can even chat with your friends on the 360 with out even being in a game or even just being on the home screen and not doing anything. that would be cool to do.

3124

kevin2129  |  March 22nd, 2012 at 3:14 am

Wtf psn get to work on this

3125

kevin2129  |  March 22nd, 2012 at 3:16 am

Make the new ps3 have it I bet ppl will buy it

3126

3127

Deado  |  March 24th, 2012 at 1:38 pm

Great idea that will never happen. The ps3 does not have enogh memory to do that. The ps vita has twise as much memory (ram) thats whybyou can do that on the vita and not on the ps3

3128

SnortDisYayo  |  March 29th, 2012 at 3:53 pm

yo that idea is dope i think yall should add the feature as FREE and for the PS VITA

3129

nick_gizmo  |  March 29th, 2012 at 8:34 pm

Yes that would be cool for cross game chat because I know that talking to random people is very annoying but I also know by experience that alot of people get off of ps3 meaning they sell their ps3 and buy an xbox also because of the Internet trouble for psn but if psn got cross game voice chat their sales would go up by millions and if they created some kind of recorder like a Hdpvr that could record your gameplay longer than 30 seconds then ya I would definitely stay with Sony but truthfully I’m with Sony just because of blu ray and free online but if they do anything I suggested they would get a whole bunch more new customers, Sony think about what I said

3130

GAMESPARKPRO  |  March 29th, 2012 at 11:04 pm

I wish sony would bring back the ps2 compatibility. It was one of the main reasons why I bought a ps3 to play ps3 and ps2 games. Just like when I got a ps2 because it played ps1 and ps2 games. Lets spread the word for some kind of software up so we can have ps2 games back!!!!!

3131

Tonitzky  |  March 31st, 2012 at 8:05 am

Wow.. this is retarded.
I never use voice chat, because I don’t have a mic, but still, this is unbelievably stupid that it doesn’t exist.

3132

COCABUTTERS13  |  March 31st, 2012 at 4:36 pm

Yaaaa great idea i love it it would complete the ps3 game play to nearly perfect.me and my friends dont always play the same game but still like to talk screw texting each other and screw scype who uses the computer and plays there ps3 at once VOTE YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3133

DeltroviK-2-  |  April 3rd, 2012 at 10:35 pm

Really nice idea, it would be also awesome the “PARTY” feature on the PS3, please take this guy’s idea in count it would really give sony a plus on the PS3

SoleAddict23  |  April 4th, 2012 at 12:21 pm

Almost six years since the PS3 launch and none of the most wanted features by their consumers have been implemented, not to mention they are all standard now and mandatory. If the current PS3 hardware absolutely cannot do this feature than that’s okay, just release a new PS3 model that is capable. Every new PS3 owner will have this model and current PS3 owners have the OPTION of getting the new PS3 model but of course they DON’T HAVE TO. Every company has done this already including Sony, they have release a new model of one their consoles with improved hardware and more and improved features, PSone, PS2, PSP, PS3, 360, Gameboy Advance and DS to name a few.

There is absolutely NO excuse. If you don’t release this feature this year it really speaks very negatively about you Sony, it’s been almost six years and it’s the most wanted feature by YOUR consumers, your money makers. You will lose positive points and gain negative points. And remember, not everyone is a blind, loyal fanboy, and most consumers aren’t.

iBeast_Kiid13  |  April 8th, 2012 at 11:08 am

If Sony did make this update and is able to do cross room chatting the ps3 would be a lot better and get better ratings me personaly i would love this update. I really wish for this update to happen :)

3138

captain_Aian  |  April 8th, 2012 at 9:39 pm

I believe that Sony can do anything. There slogan/ motto: It does everything, can prove that they can allow this. So what if we could use Skype? Players would like to stay in chat with each other while playing a different game and talking about it. If Microsoft and PC has it, its Sony’s turn.

R1SK_TRUM_PETES  |  April 15th, 2012 at 3:13 pm

I think they already have that its called voice chat.

3141

Shade_Devolos  |  April 15th, 2012 at 4:40 pm

This is the best idea on the whole list. I hope they are gettin their team in gear for this, but its been up so long that it looks like this is nothing more then a pipe dream.

3142

chaindrive30  |  April 18th, 2012 at 11:50 am

Cross Game chat is not that important I have an XBOX 360 and cross game becomes an annoyance while I’m playing co-op it is fine for two players playing a single player game. Now the Playstation Vita has it as well I don’t cross chat much but Party chat is VERY IMPORTANT for online gaming it makes for a much more social experience among friends. The PS3 chat features are sloppy compared to Vita. Sony should find a way to work the same type of party chat onto the PS3 that we have on Vita.

3143

chaindrive30  |  April 18th, 2012 at 12:07 pm

I’ve heard rumors that it could be done but if so we would lose the feature to press the PS Button to bring up the XMB during gameplay. If that’s the case fine lose it I only use that to sync trophies as I play anyway. But it can effect messaging if they can figure out a way to be able to read and send messages while handling party chat then GO for it.

3144

BLAKREX  |  April 18th, 2012 at 5:40 pm

this is a complete must its not just because xbox has, its all ive wanted because me and my friends cant talk on the phone and play and skype isnt helpful if playstation made this idea come true I would problably never get off playstation plz if someone is reading this make it come true and free PLZ!!!

3145

jewishpork00  |  April 18th, 2012 at 10:43 pm

This feature is useless and people are just trying to get free telecommunication from their PlayStation 3.

3146

chaindrive30  |  April 19th, 2012 at 9:41 am

It’s not useless I will say that cross chat can be an annoyance that I don’t care too much for but seriously PARTY CHAT is a must. Try it out on the Vita it works great PS3 should have the same format it may be useless to those who NEVER mic up with a group of friends and don’t have to go through the annoyance of muting evryone else out of their party. But for those of us that want to game online with friends and not be bothered with others then yes it’s useful VERY USEFULL make it happen Sony please.

3147

chaindrive30  |  April 20th, 2012 at 12:43 pm

I’d just like to add that especially with DUST 514 coming we definitely need better chat support SONY, hopefully you guys can work it out put your best and brightest on it. I mean this is the number one topic for a reason. If there were a way to shut out the in game XMB when the party chat starts and when you exit the party the XMB could kick back on that would be GREAT!!! Just throwing out ideas.

3148

chaindrive30  |  April 20th, 2012 at 12:57 pm

Again I will say again it’s not cross game chat I want it’s a better party chat I’d like to see improvements on the one we currently have on PS3.
