ok we should be able to diactvate our systems for people who don’t know this once the sysstem is diactivated u can no longer play the downloaded content of that user. so it does not hurt sony what so ever. for us to diactvate ps3 with ylod or other reasoin should be fine. sense it just does not let anything on that ps3 from that user be used anymore. also i been looking at alot of stuff lately and alot of u just vote no on it wtf is with that. but this issiue should be fixed by sony. we should be able to diactvate systems at anytime.

1 major flaw with this idea: if someone steals your new ps3 and deactivates your old 1, your screwed.

“allow users to activate their system over the internet”

Thats how its done already

“this also removes any possibility of illegal game sharing”

And prevents people from using their games on a new system if theirs dies on them.

Dont ask for worse DRM.

Ummm, @Quintison, you’re crazy and paranoid.
When your system bricks and you can’t deactivate it, you too will soon realize how important this is.

But deactivating based on serial or even just username should be fine. Just don’t let people you don’t trust know your log-in information

StaticFox  |  May 4th, 2010 at 1:49 pm

This is absolutely vital to an online marketplace functioning properly.

I’ve lost one, maybe even 2 slots because of bricked consoles. I would love to be able to choose which consoles my account is activated on.

Honesty, it’s my account, why can’t I have complete control over what systems it’s activated on?

TheCanadien  |  May 6th, 2010 at 3:18 am

Yes this is a fantastic idea! Make Sony put this idea through to life! I need to be able to deactivate all active users on my account from my PC just like iTunes! SONY GET ON THIS NOW! WE NEED THIS REMOTE ONLINE DEACTIVATION, NOT YOUR CRAPPY MANUAL DEACTIVATION! You have my old ps3 in a trash heap unable to deactivate because you cant find it and won`t do it yourselves, now I`m outta luck & down a user account because you can`t (or rather you choose) not to help me or anyone else. SONY, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS!

I have a friend that has shared his stuff with people and now wants to delete them. He said it’s the most frustrating thing he’s ever done. He’s been trying to do so for months!

SCARFACE_FU_87  |  May 8th, 2010 at 6:38 pm

Ive gotten the yellow light twice now and thats 2 of my 5 accounts gone now. I and many would love this feature soon before we loose all our online data and priceless trophies because we are out of accounts.

t0k3n92  |  May 9th, 2010 at 3:44 am

ok, if sony did this, then any ps3 that had just been unplugged from the internet couldn’t be de activated. so if you have a few friends that don’t have internet they could bring their ps3 over, log in and get your bought games and leave. you could choose to de activate all ps3′s and theirs would just keep letting them play. sony need to know that the account is being de activated so the games can’t be given out indefinitely.

Tarheel_Mark  |  May 17th, 2010 at 8:30 am

If Apple, of all companies, allows you to do this for iTunes, Sony really has no excuse.

162

viperware  |  May 17th, 2010 at 1:15 pm

This really sucks, as 3.30 bricked my old PS3, I bought a new one and can’t get my games.

I want to be able to see which systems are activated on my account and how many. Is that too much to ask for?

164

Darkhec413  |  May 26th, 2010 at 1:58 pm

i say make it like itunes once u reach 5 u can deactivate all 5 ps3 but once a year. like what itunes does

165

Darkhec413  |  May 26th, 2010 at 1:59 pm

i say make it like itunes once u reach 5 u can deactivate all 5 ps3 but once a year. like what itunes does. Microsoft lets u do that but only once every 6 months

Very good point! I currently own 2 PS3, however, I have a old PS3 that was replaced by Sony(Somewhere out there in Sony land) that’s still attached to my account. I would love for that PS3 to fall off my account!!!!!

I’ve spent thousands of dollars on Sony products and they dont even have the common courtesy of letting me deactivate my account via the web. I even bought a new slim (even though my barely used PS3 broke). Sony seems worse than Microsoft, at least they’re reasonable.

172

Loy310  |  June 11th, 2010 at 2:08 am

This option is an absolute must Sony, and if it is not giving as an option im afraid i will be forced to no longer invest in downloading and PSN games or movies.
The fact that one day i wont be able to add a new PS3 to my household because i simply have too many is crazy. I really dont like being limited.

Currently have 4 PS3′s one in master bedroom, 1 in my son’s bedroom, one in the living room, and one in the basement. The last one is at my dads house, and it’s dead, and being that i spent $600 on the systems a few years ago i gave the dead system away to someone at my University.
Not sure if he got it working or not but all i know is that when i bought the Slim to replace the one my dad had lost it would not let me activate it, keeps telling me I’m at the limit, so i took it back to the store and told the seller that the system was broken. He told me the problem was with Sony only allowing people to use 5 PS3 on one account which is just stupid in my eyes.

173

Loy310  |  June 11th, 2010 at 2:25 am

I agree with this. Sony is hurting their reputation and customer relation by limiting people like this, they act as if you did something bad when your PS3 died and you did not get a chance to deactivate it.
This deactivation thing is really starting to turn me off from Sony products altogether. No other company in the world does this nonsense, only this company, not even Apple.

174

Loy310  |  June 11th, 2010 at 2:34 am

Why can’t I deactivate old/dead PS3′s via the internet, you would figure that if i can log into my PSN account on the PC Sony would at least give me the option to deactivate my past PS3′s through that same portal.
I already verified who I’m by logging onto the PC PSN website, so what is the issue with allowing remote PS3 deactivation.

Enforcer_X  |  June 12th, 2010 at 12:12 am

THIS HAS HAPPENED!
REMOTE DEACTIVATION IS HERE!

This is a BS policy that Sony has… My friend’s system died to where he couldn’t even turn it on. He sent in for a repair and it ended up getting replaced. He gave me the WO# to show that they replaced it and still won’t deactivate my account from his login. Shame on you Sony. No wonder people buy X-Box!

181

SouthTNDeathride  |  June 17th, 2010 at 3:38 pm

I will also no longer be purchasing DLC. With me being out of active accounts; if I have to have mine replaced I won’t be able to re-download what I purchased. Sorry Sony, you USED to be my favorite brand. Now that I see how you treat your loyal customers I have to rethink that.

182

Kirkpad  |  June 18th, 2010 at 8:13 pm

It sucks this will never come out, because if someone stole your PS3 and you had auto-login, they could disable everything. If they had remote deactivation from the web, the password could get stolen and games can’t be deactivated while in use.

The only solution is getting the PS3 fixed, then deactivating it. Or Sony needs the console in order to deactivate it.

183

Kirkpad  |  June 18th, 2010 at 8:22 pm

It can’t happen because the device needs to be connected to the network in order to disable all the software.

184

boroboy450  |  June 20th, 2010 at 8:05 am

wat i dont get is why so many ps3 users have to go through this just because of gamesharing but i totally agree with the activations in addition i have over 100 pounds worth of stuff on this account but if u phone sony they turn u away wat i would is i would go to my friends/family house and deactivate them.

185

Bullet-Boy55  |  June 22nd, 2010 at 4:35 pm

this is my third PS3, by looking at what somepeople wrote i feel stupid because i told sony to replace my PS3 3 times cuz i wanted brand new 1 even though i can fix it.
they did that twice they replaced not fixed and i didn’t deactivate and thats 2 down then i gave another two to my friends and dont know which 1 i gave it to thats 4 and the last 1 is being used by me and my other friend is paying £10 for new cod maps and the 1 later.
i dont know what to do. :(

Dmac212  |  June 23rd, 2010 at 3:49 pm

SONY, I beg you, seriously to somehow activate my account 1 last time. Yes I activated my account on 4 other systems of my friends but they got the YLOD and 1 just just broke. My last activated account was on my old PS3 that my brother stole and sold to god knows who. I know I messed up, but I cant stand not being able to download stuff on my account. please just 1 last time.

I think PSN users should be able to deactivate PSN-association on any device through the web as long as you have your password and e-mail.

189

DBarciela  |  July 2nd, 2010 at 4:23 pm

It would reduce game-sharing to! People would not pay strangers for a game that could be deactivated at anytime.. Please implement this!

190

zachstr  |  July 2nd, 2010 at 4:24 pm

I am really hoping this will happen.

191

hesido  |  July 4th, 2010 at 9:12 am

This is very important, yet a no-brainer.

People should be able to deactivate the PS3′s from their account *IF* that ps3 has not logged in to PSN for more than 6 months. The 6 months window will prevent the abuse of the system.

192

hesido  |  July 4th, 2010 at 9:17 am

@Permafry_42: Deactivation should require re-entering of password, just as some of the account information change screens we currently have. So no problems there.

This is definitely needed, because I called customer service about this and the lady was real ignorant and irritated about doing her job and deactivating it. The first time someone needs to deactivate it, noboby realizes that it is necessary till they have another ps3. They need to do something about there call center also, because they are not friendly AT ALL!!!

195

rickelchilango  |  July 8th, 2010 at 9:39 am

iTunes has an option to “deauthorize” all computers that have been authorized, why can’t the PS3 have a similar option to deactivate all systems?

196

Ultimategamer101  |  July 9th, 2010 at 5:51 am

I and a lot of others NEED this.

When I call Sony they are complete assh*les about it and don’t do anything! I had an account with over 200 dollars worth of content, and all Sony basically says is “too bad”

197

XxToCiXx  |  July 9th, 2010 at 8:54 pm

This is such a great idea. Better for Song and will improve customer satisfaction.

+1 Vote

yes this would help alot ive had 4 ps3 all have died ive been think about going out and getting an xbox slim because if this happends again im going to lose all my dlc and i paid alot for that stuff

199

trubadman  |  July 10th, 2010 at 9:17 am

All Sony need to do is allow us to view which consoles our PSN account has been activated on through the My PSN section of the PlayStation Site. We should also be given the option to active/deactivate our account from these PS3′s via the site. I am sure this is already possible with regards to the PSP.

VIDEOgameDROME  |  July 10th, 2010 at 9:08 pm

My brother’s system just got the YLOD, he pays the money to have it sent in for repair–gets it back and now he can’t even use his own account because it’s already been activated on our other PS3s (some of which are pooched.)

So what are we supposed to do? Just keep throwing money at them? so now we all have to call Sony and ask them to deactivate our accounts on his PS3 because we all use each other’s systems. COME ON!!!
