Friends list and messaging on PSP

Idea 251 | Posted in , by | March 17, 2010

Friends list & the ability to send messages on PSP to stay in contact with Playstation Network friends when away from the PS3.

This can be done with Remote Play but it is not ideal.

If this was available, I might actually pick up a PSPgo.

CheesePie13  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:19 pm

I was actually gonna make a post just like this, awesome idea!

AdmiralAlcott  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:20 pm

Yesss please! Skype is not enough. >:C

jdude95  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Why can no ideas, especially good ones like this, not have more positive votes than negative? Can the playstation community just at least agree on one idea? Geez

5

imajinetion  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:23 pm

Yes yes, this is a great idea. You would probably still need to go through the lengthy login window, but still, be able to see what my PSN fellows are doing while I’m at school = Awesome.

“Why can no ideas, especially good ones like this, not have more positive votes than negative? ”

It’s not negative votes. It’s the total vote number :D I thought exactly like you did at first, since its next to the red button.

7

AdmiralAlcott  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:32 pm

One vote equals one score. If you vote up it equals one score. Take the total amount of votes and the score and subtract and you have the amount of negative votes that have been voted.

I think it’s a good idea, but if it is constantly connected to the net, it would use up waaaayyy to much battery. They need to add a longer lasting battery or something first IMO.

9

Baz_the_great  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:42 pm

Kaiboy12 I agree but you could sign in and check your friends and messages then switch off. Also if you had a PSP Go and a cradle this would be a must have for us desk warriors :)

romar10  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:05 pm

i have all PSPs. 1000, 2000, 3000, & GO

11

IceColdKilla44  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:07 pm

Great idea. It’s a very practical way to expand PSN to mobile devices.

12

Katoh21  |  March 17th, 2010 at 10:17 pm

There are more PSP owners than PS3 owners, this is needed because of that alone.

The PSN would increase more than 2x just from PSP users alone.

remanutd5  |  March 17th, 2010 at 10:39 pm

yes !!!! and with it the ability to play with our psn friends , for example in Motorstorm Arctic Edge to be able to play with my bro and nephew i have to call them up by the phone and tell them what track to join so we can play together , man it would have been superb if i could just make set up a party and join a race , just like Motorstorm Pacific Rift

I think this is a great idea and a great added benefit to both systems. The Sony goal should be to incorporate all systems into each other; TV, PS3, PSP. Would increase sells of all systems.

rossthebassist  |  March 18th, 2010 at 4:56 pm

I was wanting to make this post aswell.

what i would like to add, is whatever PSP game im playing online, to be announced to my friends, if im online with my PSP then my PS3 friends list should show im online on the PSP.

another addition would be trophys. now i know why they wont let us have PSP trophys, however being able to show people trophys that ive synced from my ps3 onto my psp would be great.

Shaker_878  |  March 18th, 2010 at 7:35 pm

goofball09  |  March 19th, 2010 at 1:59 am

19

NoobianGod  |  March 19th, 2010 at 6:48 am

Totally! Where is this???

This would very much increase value to me.

20

Shikoro  |  March 19th, 2010 at 4:40 pm

Make this to work just like it does on the PS3. Please!!! ;-)

21

edojpinto  |  March 29th, 2010 at 8:55 am

This will be amazing! Take this priority.

22

Doomsday34  |  March 31st, 2010 at 1:49 pm

This is something I’ve wished I could do as well.

23

AnthonyTonyMagic  |  March 31st, 2010 at 2:54 pm

+1 Support full messaging on the move

24

COMBATCSOLDIER  |  March 31st, 2010 at 10:45 pm

Thanks guys for the positive feedback. I have tried to submit good ideas every day since this process started. However they kept being overturned and I saw some very stupid ideas posted instead.

I am just happy and grateful to you guys and for the moderators for finally approving one of my ideas.

25

COMBATCSOLDIER  |  March 31st, 2010 at 11:15 pm

The only people that would thumbs down this idea are thumbs down spammers and dicks. This is a great idea for psp users and allows better social interaction and integration with other sony users.

26

Varva74  |  April 1st, 2010 at 7:24 am

+1 from me as well… I wonder why this hasn’t been done yet

27

COMBATCSOLDIER  |  April 1st, 2010 at 6:44 pm

Thankyou varva. I appreciate it.

One of the best ideas I’ve seen—in that it seems quite do-able, it’s within Sony’s purview, and I can’t see any downside.

I’m wondering if Sony is planning to add trophy support to the PSP—if so, I could imagine the tighter PSN integration to come with that firmware update…

29

DaMiGiSan  |  April 2nd, 2010 at 9:31 am

Definitely, I’ll vote for this one.

30

COMBATCSOLDIER  |  April 2nd, 2010 at 11:22 am

Hey guys. Good to see some of my friends supporting me on here. There is no one more brutally honest then you guys. So I know if you say its good then it really is.

I hope they truly integrate this as it would give more purpose to psp owners and also would give more reason for those of us including myself that are addicted to trophies.

Once again. Thankyou guys for your support. Greatly appreciated.

To be quite honest though we probably wont see trophy integration until psp 2 launches next year.

It would however be nice if they patched some of there bigger titles in the mean time.

gus_xl  |  April 5th, 2010 at 9:54 pm

I’ve been hoping for this for a long time now.

32

BalramRules  |  April 13th, 2010 at 10:56 am

I’ve been waiting for this for a LONG TIME NOW!
Sony’s clearly TOOOOO Stupid to realise that this is a simple feature that it needs!

Then their sales will go BOOOM Up HIGH!

33

spaceman10765  |  April 15th, 2010 at 2:28 pm

I was going to post this also. This would be great for PSP. They have 2X as long lasting batteries for PSP 2000′s and 3000′s.You just need to buy them.

34

spaceman10765  |  April 15th, 2010 at 2:31 pm

Its 2400 Mah. The PSP comes with 1200 or 1400 mah

35

jandelacruz  |  April 22nd, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Add me, I don’t know why takes long to implement on PSP wherein they can pattern it from the one running already on PS3.

36

undergroundfreak  |  May 22nd, 2010 at 6:03 am

I signed up for PSN the other day to message a friend who had recently picked up a new PS3. I only have a computer and a PSP. I signed up using the PSP and to my annoyance I couldn’t message anybody, in fact I couldn’t even add him!

I have an Xbox 360 and I’ve sent messages using there website before so I went on my computer and again was annoyed at the lack of messaging outside of the PS3 world.

I am confused as to why the PSN team hasn’t released an update for the website and the PSP. The messages are just text for the subject & body; its not like FireFox or a PSP can’t handle those two. Attachments may be an issue but I should be able to view images that my friends send.

37

IIOOPUREOOII  |  May 28th, 2010 at 9:47 pm

Why not have Playstation friends on the PSP actually it should have friends on the PSP so they could messege eachother so they could be in contact because what is there going to be a person trying to hunt him and the other guy is warning him so he won’t get hurt. And so that they could have fun together i mean how many people play through online together i know for a fact not many people do.

remanutd5  |  June 2nd, 2010 at 9:52 am

i totally support this idea plus:
ability to play with our psn friends online just like the ps3
playstation home ( if it can be done )
trophies
in other words i want the whole psn integration into the little system : ability to send / receive messages , ability to play online with our psn friends , trophies , playstation home ( not to important for me but still )

40

KDiaz123  |  June 14th, 2010 at 1:51 pm

No i dont wanna use remote play i just wanna be able to message my friends using my psp anywere!

41

ghostnik11  |  June 21st, 2010 at 9:29 pm

This is the smartest idea sony could possibly come up with if they truly wanted everyone on there network to interact cross their platforms, as someone with a ps3 talking to their friend who is signed into there psn account via psp. It only makes sense to do that if everyone is already on the same network know as psn and are using there same id that they use on there ps3, on there psp. duh. Hopefully sony will actually take a look at this blog and see that people want this feature and give there customers what they want.

mhlbrother  |  July 1st, 2010 at 10:53 pm

sony is lazy ndk if thay have the guts
to do this thare are so many members who wont this to be done but thare to LAZY!!!!!

43

salvita  |  July 3rd, 2010 at 8:22 pm

44

Skater_Ricky  |  July 4th, 2010 at 12:44 am

I would like to see this Happen for my PSP.. it would make me use my PSP more often when im away from my PS3 :D It would be a good way to check my Messages while im not at home :D

Make it Happen SONY “Step Your Game Up!”

45

MeloJello  |  July 4th, 2010 at 5:51 am

haha sorry to say this but from the looks of thing, this is one feature that definitely got left out on PSP. Cause in my eye this a feature that will be one of the best for a new platform (in this case, PSP2). it could be big selling point. just my 2 cents

either way i’m still voting for this tough.

46

zekececil14  |  July 4th, 2010 at 1:01 pm

Yea, we need this! All they have to do is add the friends catagory EXACTLY like the one on the PS3! This would be just like when they added the PSN category via firmware update a while back, anyone remember that?

47

the_lone_wolf_42  |  July 13th, 2010 at 11:54 am

@ #10 remanutd5
No way PSP will get PS Home. The spaces are almost half a gig each..then you have to include the initial install, updates, etc..and it’d probably be a total of 5 gigs total. I don’t know too much about PSP (don’t care much for them) but I don’t think they hold enough memory for that. Besides, Home is still a beta. You don’t bring betas to other platforms. It may happen…just probably not untill 2012ish.

48

proneto911  |  July 17th, 2010 at 1:48 am

the psp already has a ps home all it missing is the friends tab and a users tab you don’t need to have all the fancy glamor stuff all you need is the coding to see friends, the psp firmware it only 26mb im sure they can come up with something thats about 3.5mb and you have 8mb to work with and yes i did the math it cant be that hard hell if sony would let someone do it im sure ITT tech or Roosevelt or some tech school try and make a thing for it and it be awesome too for the gaming design students to get first hand stuff for coding but thats just me

49

Corey007360  |  July 19th, 2010 at 6:45 pm

should have a list of psp frinds
that would be good

50

thexald  |  July 20th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
