Gifting PSN Purchases

Idea 1125 | Posted in by | March 17, 2010

Instead of buying dlc, games, movies, etc off of the store for yourself, give us the option to send it to a friend. They’ll receive an automated message & it’ll appear in their dl list.

That’s a pretty awesome idea.

+1. Was thinking the same thing.

Yatesybum  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:09 pm

Sounds great, but could be a problem if someone else gets onto your account.

6

Enigmatech  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:11 pm

That might turn all your friends into beggars or random people looking at your profile begging you to add them just so you can send them a DL.

Sakimori_X  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:11 pm

Wow, that is a great idea, Voozi!

8

JackDusty  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:14 pm

Great idea. I’d suggest some secondary check before you are able to send stuff though, just to reduce the damage someone could do if they got into your account.

Nerfsniper  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:15 pm

This is something I’ve always figured they should have, but they’d have to increase security. Make purchases require a password, at least.

adolson  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:33 pm

The Wii supports this – no reason the PSN shouldn’t.

Ideally, we’d be able to buy a code, akin to how Amazon does it, only instead of on Amazon, right on the PSN itself. AND supported in Canada.

ZamagnaxD  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:39 pm

Now this is one of the best ideas i’ve read, it would be great sony

RGS-14  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:10 pm

I’m split down the middle on this. This can creat trolls adding random ppl asking them to buy stuff for them but on the other hand, this is a great idea and would be a great feature to have. Sony would have to add a ”report player” option before they add this.

13

Xu_Davella  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:25 pm

That, along with wishlists.

14

FaSeCeX  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:05 pm

nice idea
if it creates trolls..grow a spine n delete them or tell them how it is, use ur blocklist…scared to hurt some feelings? boohoo thats life..sometimes u need to b an @$$h0le in life, dont b such a poon ;)

15

MrBeatdown  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:40 pm

Nobody is going to bug you to buy them games. It’s a cool idea.

16

Rhino136  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:46 pm

Yup, it would be a nice and easy gift.

17

kowhoho  |  March 17th, 2010 at 9:29 pm

I agree with Xu_Davella (13). We should have wishlists as well. This would be a wonderful idea, I’d get critter crunch for my friends birthday!

18

cfcj12  |  March 17th, 2010 at 9:35 pm

this would be great if you send it, then get an email confirmation that you have to confirm by clicking a link. (that would eliminate the problem of friends sending themselves gifts from your account). also who is gonna buy stuff for random people?!? i think the beggars would give up pretty quickly. we should also be able to just gift psn vouchers if we don;t know what to buy.

ALSO THE WISHLIST IDEA IS GREAT. I WOULD HAVE CRASH COMMANDO FOR MY BDAY.

SomeoneElse  |  March 17th, 2010 at 10:23 pm

This could have been handy for some of the recent sales on the PSN.

Phoenixfire90  |  March 18th, 2010 at 4:13 am

Yeah, reminds me of Wii shop.
I think this is a great idea for me and my friend.

22

NoobianGod  |  March 18th, 2010 at 6:49 am

Wow. What a clever idea. I like it! I know some people I’d be doing this for too.

23

FWEA_JMK  |  March 18th, 2010 at 7:28 am

If Nintendo can do it with their mediocre online, I see no reason why Sony can’t.

24

kNoWlEdGe22  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:56 am

I really like this idea… that would be very cool…

25

AnthonyTonyMagic  |  March 18th, 2010 at 1:33 pm

They should at least do it for micro-purchases such as in-game items in Home

26

fatalis_  |  March 18th, 2010 at 2:28 pm

You can kinda already share the content you download on the PSN store, but it involves personal risk. But over all a very good idea.

khamvongsa09  |  March 18th, 2010 at 8:04 pm

Really love this idea… Would be very nice… There is already an online PC store that does this.. I don’t want to say the name because I’m scared something is going to happen to me..

101% support…

All this does is enable you guys to make more money! If you haven’t already hired several extra software people to start working on these SHARE ideas, then you guys are missing out on an excellent opportunity to make more money for Sony and (more importantly) provide a much better experience for the fans.

31

Vito_R  |  March 19th, 2010 at 8:40 am

I would love to buy PSN titles for friends that would otherwise never try them! Or even buy DLC packs for the both of us when they can’t afford it. Easy money for you guys!

32

evilmunkie9  |  March 19th, 2010 at 4:47 pm

@28, steam, on that note I wouldn’t mind spending 25% or so more on the cost of a downloadable game so a friend can play it online with me also (ex. fat princess). I know what your all thinking ‘just tell them to buy it’, I’ll tell you, peer pressure don’t quite work if its just one person. If its not possible to pay a little extra to get a full game, why not make it available for a time (say 1 or 2 months)and then have them pay the remaining price?

33

U_R_boned  |  March 19th, 2010 at 8:01 pm

You can already sort of do that. Just buy a PSN item from Amazon’s PSN store and give the code you recieve to a friend.

34

wcband  |  March 20th, 2010 at 8:45 am

Great idea!! The trolls that would add for dlc are already there though…. They ask if they can log in on you’re account so they can download the dlc for themselves, getting you’re trophies, creditcard and most likely any credibility from sony.

35

MAB196811  |  March 20th, 2010 at 9:16 am

Back in the days when Jack Tretton himself used to highlight the fact it was possible to share downloaded games with friends, I set up an account specifically to share birthday and Christmas gifts with two nephews in UK and US.

Worked very well for 1st two years, and I spent a lot of cash between their downloaded gifts.

Of course my 1st YLOD started to put a spanner in the works, it’s got much worse with my 2nd YLOD and one of my nephews also getting YLOD.

The account is pretty dead and Sony as quietly changed sharing policy

bigben2021  |  March 21st, 2010 at 4:35 pm

They already have this. If your friend buys something, you can create a new user, go to the PS Store, then he/she can tell you their log in information, then you can download it. If you don’t want people to buy crap or mess up your profile, only give your info to trusted friends. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.

Box_Car_Racer  |  March 21st, 2010 at 8:06 pm

awesome idea. sometimes u cant give PSN friends a gift cuz they live far but a psn game would be a great gift.

yea you can do the code thing with amazon but not everyone has amazon accounts and isnt this site’s purpose about making the PSN a better experience?

the answer is yes.

38

Musoka_Eimin  |  March 21st, 2010 at 11:32 pm

This is another thing I thought we could do until I tried to do this for a friend. You want us spending money at the store, heres us asking you to make it easier :)

39

MakulaTolkien  |  March 22nd, 2010 at 1:38 pm

I think you can currently do this via amazon. If you buy a PSN game in Amazon then they’ll give you a code to download from your PS3/PSP. I gifted a few things to my brother yesterday and it worked great.

40

DarthSpooky  |  March 24th, 2010 at 2:48 pm

Yes please! Yeah Amazon is cool and all, but plenty of people also only use PSN cards to make their purchases.

41

KuyaNai  |  March 28th, 2010 at 4:33 am

+++++ Very good idea. Really helps if you don’t know what to give to someone in PSN.

Sony should also include something else if that PS Store purchase is a gift. Like a happy birthday music or video or something like that if it’s a birthday gift :D for free of course.

42

DeathX95  |  March 30th, 2010 at 6:08 pm

wow that be easy then let ur frined use ur ps3 name to get the downlode from ur list lol

43

The_desired_1  |  April 3rd, 2010 at 1:43 pm

hello ..

this would be great, i know could be an issue if cross-zone, but let say that someone can gift something to anyone as long as the alternative exist over there ;)

please do bring this on, thanks!

cheers!

44

BalramRules  |  April 12th, 2010 at 11:34 am

This will CERTAINLY, NO DOUBT, make me spend WAAY More on the PlayStation Network, since Im a party person, and I’ll spend LOTS for my friends and family on the PlayStation Network, it’ll be FANTASTIC! XD

45

bunnyhunter  |  April 25th, 2010 at 6:13 am

I’d really appreciate it! Not all my friends have credit cards or cash when DLC comes out. Right now I have to wait a week or two to play the new DLC of Uncharted 2 with him. When I could just get some money transferred from my credit card and ‘gift’ it to him.

46

LegendaryBoss  |  April 27th, 2010 at 2:15 pm

make it happen sony awesome idea d00d3

47

Red_Koshinomi  |  May 1st, 2010 at 10:40 am

I gift my friends a $20 psn code about every two weeks. To give them games would save a lot of time.

48

Permafry_42  |  May 2nd, 2010 at 8:53 pm

if Wii and DS has it why not ps3 and psp?

49

Shadowdragoon  |  May 13th, 2010 at 9:54 am

Please for the love of all thats holy, make it Cross region giftable. ;)
