would be epic!!

That has to do with the developers of the game, not a firmware update….. Are you suggesting that they mandate this from developers?

I agree. There’s sometimes I just wanna jam out, and not have to get up to change the radio station or change the cd.
Even adding Internet radio, playable during games would be sweet.

I think this person meant customizable soundtracks for all games just like what the Xbox 360 offers.

tdh004 | March 17th, 2010 at 1:34 pm
I’d say for most titles. No reason why you can’t listen to your own music while playing MvC2, PixelJunk games, or SFIV, but wouldn’t want them for something like FFXIII or a FPS.

I understand that some game devs pay a lot of money to make great music for a game. Some however do not…and it is annoying when you have a song you hate while your playing a game or no song at all. Maybe make it standard for every game but when a company feels that you really need their music to get the full experience there could be a prompt when you first start the game the first time, i.e. “The developers of this game would like you to give their soundtrack a chance as they feel it adds to the emotion of the game” or something.

TheLonelyStoner | March 17th, 2010 at 1:54 pm
They cant do this, MS patented it, the only work around is dev’s putting it in manually.

Neobara | March 17th, 2010 at 1:55 pm
I refuse to believe that Microsoft could patent something so general. Find a work-around, Sony. I don’t care how, i just want to be able to play music over a game SOMEHOW.

Firejet10 | March 17th, 2010 at 1:58 pm
i really hope this happens because i would like to add my own style to alot of my games including army of two and MW2. So Please Sony make this happen.

Confucius89 | March 17th, 2010 at 2:31 pm
I think it would be especially cool if we at least had XMB music during playstation home.

Ace_Killa | March 17th, 2010 at 2:36 pm
I completely agree, Microsoft can’t patent the freedom to play music. That’s like trying to patent being able to walk, please Sony work around it somehow. I understand developers and their need for players to listen to their soundtrack. But I invested over $600 in my Playstation 3 (plus games), so I should be able to listen to music whenever I want. Especially since you can do it on the Xbox 360, which cost less.

THIS WOULD BE AWESOME!!!! IT IS SO STUPID THAT WE DO NOT HAVE THIS!!!

White-Knife | March 17th, 2010 at 2:48 pm

Detective-E | March 17th, 2010 at 3:35 pm
I hate when I’m grinding or even walking around trying to find intel for trophies and it being nothing but the sound of footsteps. Like in BioShock, it’s so boring looking for radios hearing nothing but the big daddy’s clunking footsteps. I barely use the music because I’m usually playing a game, it’d be awesome to play music during gameplay.

Silex | March 17th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
Yes, mandate that developers do this. It would be lame if you just play music over top of the game from the XMB. Burnout Paradise did an excellent job with this.

Diego_BC | March 17th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
I agree, would be nice to listen to music while playing!
17
savethezombies | March 17th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
It shouldn’t be up to the developers because it seems that they’re too lazy to do it on their own-even with exclusives.
Just make it mandatory like the trophies.
There are some games that really need this option and they don’t have it.
I can only think of a few games I have which use it.

Ragingdemon06 | March 17th, 2010 at 4:57 pm
xbox can do it y cant we

igotgames247 | March 17th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
While playing MW2 I have a strong desire to play my music, instead of just the air and gunshots, it makes it more exciting and fun!!I know other games have it, but this one really needs it, as well as LBP, as well as many others.

JonnyFig | March 17th, 2010 at 5:22 pm
I’m very sure Microsoft owns the patent for making it manditory. I’m pretty sure that PS3 devs have an option, where as Microsoft games dont have an option.

Rofldood | March 17th, 2010 at 5:50 pm
This would be a great add-on, it was great to have in the killzone 2 multiplayer.

As a dj/producer I have always been sick and tired of listening to the same song over & over just to enjoy a game. I hate orchestras/sypmhonies 6 the classical genre in general. I haven’t watched tv in 4 years bcuz it’s all top 40 songs that play over & over all day on the radio.
Too many times a movie’s soundtrack offends me being a style I despise.
This is why 9 of 10 games/videos only have sound fx here and there.
We’re stuck with “JAWS” style duh duh duh followed by blah blah blah.
There are hundreds of unsigned artists that give their art away to fight the corporate media machine. Add to this the fact I have made 45 songs of my own that I can’t listen to while playing MAG.!!!!
45 of my creaions I CAN’T GIVE AWAY BCUZ OF THE USELESS BROWSER!!!!

TyBo5 | March 17th, 2010 at 6:36 pm
Dude, YES! My friend switched over from the “box” and he was SO disappointed he couldn’t play his music while playing MW2. I felt ashamed and embarrassed.
25
KILLZONE79 | March 17th, 2010 at 7:16 pm
good idea but, song artist refuse to have that for every game.
26
GameAngry | March 17th, 2010 at 7:22 pm
METLGEAR has the right idea.
It should be standard for every game and I’ll give you two reasons:
Infamous
Dragon Age
Great games with really annoying soundtracks and soundtrack problems.
I just don’t understand what kind of selfish dbag would vote Against this idea. It’s just an option!

Shredfan777 | March 17th, 2010 at 7:44 pm
The freedom to play your own music while in-game should have been a standard feature. I used to be able to listen to my music while using the web-browser, until an update removed that feature! As a musician, my own preferred music calms me, and gives me more control and enjoyment for the games i play. This was actually one of the reasons I purchased the “box” and I always enjoy the feature. Sony has been working with the music industry for a long time and should realize this accommodating feature. “it only does everything…one at a time”
28
Kchow23 | March 17th, 2010 at 7:48 pm
can’t happen for all game since MS patented this and I don’t think that it should some of these game have great soundtracks
29
Rhino136 | March 17th, 2010 at 8:42 pm
Meh, I can live without. I’m ok with devs having a choice.
30
Neoness39 | March 17th, 2010 at 9:34 pm
I like this idea. I want this to be standard
31
Tredogg14TK | March 17th, 2010 at 9:49 pm
Eh some games need it others dont. Personally I think in game music ruins the effect a game has on you for example if Uncharted 2 had ingame music would you have looked at the game the same way when you beat the story or came up to a key event? MW2 and games online they could use in game music. Dev’s should DO WHAT KILLZONE 2 DID AND MAKE THE INGAME MUSIC FOR MULITPLAYER ONLY.

kakashi422 | March 17th, 2010 at 10:08 pm
Hell Yeah! im tired of hearing the stupid annoying music from games or just complete silence I WANT TO HEAR METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
33
MetalKosmos | March 17th, 2010 at 11:08 pm
this feature is a must, specially when you have played a game a lot of times
34
BulletTooth228 | March 17th, 2010 at 11:33 pm
My MOST wanted feature
35
Frost462606 | March 17th, 2010 at 11:35 pm
absolutely this shoulda been mandatory over trophies and
not just offline like SFIV and burnout but online too like killzone and warhawk
36
PYTHON101 | March 18th, 2010 at 12:12 am
I’m pretty sure microsoft has a specific patent on this and Sony decided to leave it up to developers
37
PYTHON101 | March 18th, 2010 at 12:18 am
while I think its good to have the options it kinda takes away from all the great music found in certain games like GOW or STFU
38
lmike1234 | March 18th, 2010 at 1:24 am
This is something I have wanted for a long time. I know Sony supports, and pays for expensive orchestrated music. Yet I want the freedom of listing to what I enjoy hearing, for hours on end. This is something I hope is out before GT5 releases.
39
Dusk83 | March 18th, 2010 at 1:36 am
omg want it also!
40
jryi | March 18th, 2010 at 1:58 am
A boring idea. If I wanted to listen to some other music while playing a game, I’d use my MP3 player. But I have NEVER had a sudden urge to listen to any other music than that chosen for the game by developers.
Waste of resources.

NeoRaidenX | March 18th, 2010 at 2:10 am
If I could choose one thing to improve the PS3 it would be this. Developers NEVER implement it. I know it sounds crazy but whenever I get a new game/PSN game/or demo, the first thing I do is check if it supports in-game music. Sadly, I end up disappointed most of the time. Please SCEA, I don’t care how, just make it happen somehow.
42
tomstockmail | March 18th, 2010 at 2:46 am
This is the developers fault. I voted this down because this is ANOTHER Share option that is chosen *not* to be implemented by developers (the other was dual login on the same PS3, Resistance 2 and LBP both do that already).
Sony should NOT force ANY developer to use or not use a feature. Contact developers themselves if you want it implemented.
43
hero316 | March 18th, 2010 at 3:07 am
I need this feature badly, not being able to listen to Barry White while playing soul calibur breaks my heart.
44
marcus_h_1995 | March 18th, 2010 at 3:24 am
Yea this is like the only thing xbox 360 has over ps3. But ps3 is obviously better
45
Leigard117 | March 18th, 2010 at 3:52 am
this is needed
46
xxPIETROxx | March 18th, 2010 at 4:10 am
Needs to happen.

In the meantime please look at my guide:

How to split ps3 audio for 2.1ch, a great custom music solution for the ps3.
Please implement this Sony! Or at least just for Home!

StefNighthawk | March 18th, 2010 at 4:43 am
This should remain a developers/publishers choice as they are the ones paying the licenses for the songs on their games.

sp33d1devil1 | March 18th, 2010 at 5:28 am
Epic idea
50
AndyVance | March 18th, 2010 at 5:53 am
Yep, though i dont like the way the 360 implements this…its like just having background music. Its better handled the way burnout paradise and wipeout hd did where it supports playlists and implements them into the game like they do the standard music.
