Music Store on PSN

Idea 892 | Posted in by | March 17, 2010

It would be nice to have a music section on the PSN Store. If all the music was in the MP3 format, with no DRM, and unlim, ited downloads, PSN could become a great competiter to iTunes and Amazon.

It would be nice, but please, no popular pop or rapg songs, it would be nice sony bringing us more diversity, japanese music owns, it would be great a little more marketing on the ocident, or underground bands …

Would love to see this happen. The music section has been ignored long enough.

ohhhh yes please!! I don’t like VidZone anymore, it takes too long to load. Plus I want to listen to the music without that application running.

i agree that would be good to see, but they should add game music themes as well.. like MGS3 or GOW etc, and be able to play it in other games..

I think selling a lossless sound file (like FLAC) for the same price as a lossy MP3 would really put it above the competition.

The option to convert it to MP3 or another audio format for use in a portable device (PSP, Walkman, etc.) could be given to the customer, just as they would convert any CD.

There is some music available on PSN already

Bring back Sony Connect! I used that with the PSP way back in 2004 with that program SonicStage.

This idea could work extremly well if they made the store content the same internationally.
For example at present, if you want to get the latest digital single by a niche Japanese artist the music store in your region should still have the item available for purchase. If Sony could get through the legal requirements for this, they would totally dominate Apple and Amazon.

MP3, at LEAST 256kbps and no DRM. Or V0. Or V2. But no less than 256. Let the user set it in preferences as some people like to use smaller files because of ipod space. But I like my songs to be big. Not FLAC big, but big. I enjoy quality, it’s why I buy PlayStation.

johndrinkwater  |  March 18th, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Flac please. Maybe some Ogg too.
PS3 has the power to sleep through playing FLAC, so why not…

YES!!!! This would be a great idea.. Work with SME (Sony Music Entertainment)!! I’m sure they will be very happy to hear this idea.. More income for Sony and a music store for users is a win win..

Being that SONY has a music division, you would think this would have happend a long time ago. Also allow it to download/buy music in other regions by picking the rgion to shop. This would bring greater and diverse sales.

It has to be at least 256k AAC, if the store were to go 320k AAC that would be even better.

I remember seeing a “demo” of what the PSN store would be like at E3 years ago and it was ALL music downloads! haha, they still haven’t done that yet.

as wonderful as this would be… i just don’t see it happening. I am all for it, however.

I wish it were so. I wonder what the holdup is? If anything start with the a section for game soundtrack. Move the Heavy Rain and Pixeljunk Eden music there and bring in all other first-party soundtracks in that section.

I’d rather see a partnership with AmazonMP3. Sony has done very well with the video store but partnerships could make PS3 a media platform.

Im down for the idea but no MP3 format. WMA or wave, or since its Sony bring the ATRAC formats.

maninashed  |  April 6th, 2010 at 11:13 am

LMAO, Sony is all about DRM you’ve got no chance.

BalramRules  |  April 13th, 2010 at 10:56 am

Why ask for a music store, when you can just ask for VidZone?

this idea is cool and it shouldn’t be ignored. “Please vote for this Idea!!!”

that would be amazing mag, mw2, waw, kz2, lbp.

AnthonyTonyMagic  |  July 27th, 2010 at 7:59 am

Please do this as soon as possible

Right now the music section on the Hong Kong PS Store has two titles… not one but TWO!

Sony Music has one of the largest music catalogues in the world, and they don’t want to sell it too us… it’s ridiculously bad business

Adivinis  |  August 24th, 2010 at 6:06 pm

THIS IS A MUST!!!! we allready have video and comics….so a music store will keep adding to “..it only does everything”

Istyle318  |  September 1st, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Sony what are you waiting on please do this. This will make me buy a psp or psp Go you know you would make a killing off of memory stick cause we would buy 16gb memory stick duos, psp go would work with any car radio to stream the music to the car and you can see the artist name/track/ album of any song that is playing. Please make this happen and 10 a month for playstation plus member (hint hint)and also videos. there’s no great video channel, always have to go to youtube from myps3 to look at the music videos, but hey one thing at a time. but please make this work we need this music store it would put the itunes, and amazon to shame. i know sony own a record label anyway. this will officially make it does everything

omg my brain hurts from thinking about how stupid this “idea” is. Why would you want this, really?

sony please remove this idea for the attempted murder of my mind.

sklacer33  |  January 11th, 2011 at 9:00 am

Sony definitely needs to enhance the store with convenient music. PSP could better compete with iPod touch this way.
I agree with previous comments about partnering with amazon or other online music providers (preferably multiple venders) so users can shop around.

Wolf2482  |  January 13th, 2011 at 7:02 pm

It would be great to be able to buy music straight from the psn store to my psp.

36

Raven_Rainstorm  |  March 3rd, 2011 at 9:38 pm

I’m putting my vote in for AAC/AAC+/ATRAC or FLAC in a mp4 container. It would be great to see a lot of Japanese songs in the store and can’t forgot to have a way to preview the songs before buying.

mrlenard12  |  March 15th, 2011 at 7:20 pm

Yeah, there should be a separate Music Section in the Store where you can download music like ITunes to your MP3 Player/Phone etc. I also would like to add TV Shows to this as well.
