No Online Trophies & Harder Trophies

Idea 935 | Posted in , by | March 17, 2010

Online trophies are bad. A trophy that requires 7 other people to get are neither fun, achievable due to people dropping out or based on skill.

Trophies in general need to be earned not gave!

While I hate online trophies, we shouldn’t be able to restrict game developers from using trophies in ways they see fit.

But if trophies come naturally and I don’t have to do anything crazy to get them, I’m more likely to play the game.

I disagree, trophies are fine as they are.

I have to agree because if you get a game that isn’t selling well then you can’t get online to play or if in a year or so they drop the online support then you can’t get the trophies.

Agreed. Online trophies should be based on individual skill, not group skill. There are a lot of “Do this with 7 other people” or “Win X matches” which are more determined by the skill of those around you.

This is more of a spur at developers, not Sony. QC should only expect to do so much, it is up to the developers to provide the trophy difficulty and requirements.

Least my idea is getting some support if not much!!

You should have made it just “no online trophies” without the second part, would have been more popular.

I still voted it UP for the “no online trophies” part but don’t really agree with “harder trophies” so maybe try submitting just “no online trophies”.

Maybe they should separate the online trophies from the offline for the purpose of the platinum. Online trophies have just as much reason to exist as they are a way for the developers to push people to play with others. But I can understand some people’s frustration with the system (don’t have online, don’t like depending on others to unlock something personal, etc)

Online trophies need to be optional towards a platunim

I totally disagree. Of course there has to be online trophies. Duh. :|

I’ll have to disagree, if you want to get a plat only through single player, than I want a way to get a play only through online. Most games I’d rather play the multiplayer version of it than the single.

I think this going into a discussion of what trophies are for. It means different things to different people. It effects me not as I can sleep just fine at night knowing a will never get a platinum in NBA 08 because EA shutdown online. I know it irks some people, others are fine, if we leave it, I think it works for most.

Just have separate trophy lists; online and offline. Although, like others have said, if the game doesn’t get supported the online trophies become impossible to get and that is wrong.

exactly online trophies need to be optional for platinum.
and also it should not be necessary to buy special packs to earn trophies in a game like LBP. that sux.

I allready bought the game! so I should be able to earn all trophies just by playing.

I also agree. Online trophies should not be tied to the Platinum. Or they should follow what Naughty Dog did with Uncharted 2. It had 2 online trophies the basically make you give multi-player a shot, but not have to play something you don’t like just because you want the Platinum.

Online trophies — probably the only reason I don’t have Platinum on Burnout Paradise. *sigh*

Still, for the “harder” trophies — how hard a trophy is to achieve is usually tied in to the game and mostly based on skill. Why do you think story chapter completion trophies are generally Bronze? *grin*

Disgaea 3 and Demon’s Souls have some decently hard trophies. Most of the trophies in Disgaea 3 are only obtainable after completing the game and are usually on the masochistic end of the scale.

Demon’s Souls is hard enough on it’s own that just completing a section of the game is pretty rewarding. Though it’s usually a hard fought Bronze trophy for finally killing the boss that razed you the previous thirty times, heh.

I agree completely! Make all/most trophies for singleplayer. That way everybody has a chance to get them (including the Plat). You won’t ever have to rely on anyone else or worry about servers being shutdown over time.

I think a perfect example of this is Modern Warfare 2. Another good example, as CowboyRob mentioned above, is Uncharted 2.

I think that online trophies should AT LEAST be “disabled” after x months, once game interest die down. This way you still have a shot at platinum.

Or optional for platinum, that would work too

In my opinion most online trophies end up ruining a game. Example – I loved UFC undisputed 09 but because of the bugs & cheats trying to get 100 wins was not enjoyable and ruined the game.

As mentioned previously the Uncharted 2 or COD model are both fair ways to have online trophies added (as long as the servers are kept online – online trophies should be de disabled if servers get turned off).

Also DLC should be displayed seperatly – I have Burnout Plat with only 49% of the trophies lol

Online trophies should be scrapped, period. A trophy should be earned with a players skill vs the cpu. Why the hell do you earn trophies on certain games for playing online 50, 75, 100 times etc? There’s no skill involved in that, some even give trophies just for hosting a certain amount of online games! I personally don’t play online much other than with people I actually know but yet I can’t get the platinum trophy on a lot of my games because I find random online gaming boring as hell.

Online Trophies Ruin Games. In FIFA09, “Real World Winner” Is No Longer Possible, Therefore The Platinum Is Not Possible. LOTR Conquest Also No Longer Has An Online Server As EA Decided To Shut It Down (And Yet Online Exclusive DLC Remains In PlayStation Store).
Solutions:
A) Online Trophies Should Be Made Optional Like DLC Trophies So That A Platinum Trophy Can Still Be Gained.
B) Remove Online Trophies, People Can Still Get Platinum And Nobody Will Worry About The Amount Of N00BS With No Skill And Just Looking For A Trophy. Nothing More Annoying Than Playing A Team Death Match And Watching An Ally Allow Himself To Be Killed 10 Times By His Pal, What’s Worse Is After The Tenth Kill They Both Disappear Leaving My Team With A 10 Point Gap Just For The Sake Of A Damn Trophy.
C) In C&C Red Alert 3 Most Online Trophies (-3) Were Attainable In A Skirmish As Well As Ranked Online. This Meant That After Servers Have Gone Down These ‘Online’ Trophies Will Still Be Attainable. If This Method Was Used For All Online Trophies, Then This Wouldn’t Be A Problem For Anybody. Sure It Is Easier To Do It With A Buddy Online Than Against A Hard Skirmish Opponent, But What Good Is ‘Easier’ If The Servers Go Down?

I almost agree.

What I really think is that we should just separate the categories, not completely remove online trophies.

There is no need to completely remove online trophies, some people like them.
The really should seperate online/offline trophies and give them each a seperate platitum. Some people don’t like to play online, some don’t have the time it takes to get certain trophies; there’s other reasons I’m sure. Just seperate them and keep everyone happy.

Because you’ve really earned the forced trophy when completing the tutorial level.

Trophies are just for people with ADHD problems.
