PS3 is on standby, I log in to the PC/MAC Store & buy something. My PS3 boots up and downloads it. It’s waiting for me when I get home.

The Media Go client has the PSP store, so it simply needs to be revamped to support the PS3′s store, too.

Agreed, why not a web based store for that matter?

It’d be even better if you could download the content from any computer. I for example have a very bad internet connection at home but I could download stuff much faster from other places. I also agree on it being web based since that way it would be truly universal and work on any OS including Linux (which I use).

Or to tie this to the PS Blog… a developer puts a post up about their latest downloadable game. Looks cool to me, so I slide my mouse over to the button that says “demo” or “buy now” to make my choice. Make a link available for 3rd parties, so when EA sends me that email for the new BFBC2 map pack, I can just click to buy instead of waiting until I get home or to my PS3.

I submitted an item similar to be a storefront though a web browser, rather than an executable specific to a platform. Hence why this didn’t show up in my search…
I’d like to be able to tell people they can get a game by simply linking to a store purchase page. That way someone remembers to purchase a product by ACTUALLY buying the product. Otherwise you have to hope people remember to buy it and find the product the next time they fire up the PS3/PSP.
Course, this is because I am working on a game for PS3 set for pre-order this week on PSN, but anyway…

That’s why we have Remote Play. I log onto my PS3 via PSP every week to download movies from the store so when I get home it’s ready for me to play.

They actually used to have a web based storefront but took it down a while ago. I wonder why?

the PSN store used to be solely web-based. i guess it would be ok to have both the console front and a PC/Mac front, but i don’t see it as REALLY necessary. unless you just CAN’T WAIT to buy the next dlc for Disgea or whatever.

If they do offer an updated Media Go or Web storefront I think having it wake the PS3 via wake-on-lan similar to remote play would be nice. Have purchases send a WoL signal to the system similar to remote play, and then begin the download if there is disk space. If not, shutdown the system after a few moments.
Possible issues would be the inevitable problems with keeping updates on the website secret, and keeping the Web PS Store and PS3 PS Store updated in sync. Should be possible however.

a checkbox saying ‘download & install automatically’ would be nice too.

Comment #6 is right…you can basically already do this via the PSP and remote play

I don’t care to actually access any of the content from a web browser, I just want to be able to browse and possibly set up downloads to my PS3.
I don’t want to have to install custom software to browse the store, even if such software was available for my Linux systems.
Sony may be seeking to keep their available catalog of content non-browsable for competitive reasons, but I can’t believe the benefit from that would outweigh allowing people to see what’s on offer.

MediaGo is no go on my system (Fedora Linux)
Some Friday afternoons on the bus home from work, I would *love* to find a new title to buy and have ready to play when I get back.
* Being able to browse, purchase, (and send a download request to my PS3), manage all from a website would be fantastic. *

@Skywalker6705 /agree
This idea would be sweet. It would essentially bypass the iTunes store as far as functionality. Apple is in the process of migrating the iTunes store to be web accessible and allowing purchase via web browser. I would assume that this kind of feature would be used with AppleTV and allow you to purchase content via your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch and then it would automatically Download to your AppleTV since your AppleTV is already tied to your iTunes store account in the first place. If Sony can beat Apple to the punch in the Home Entertainment department, they will have a HUGE leg up when Microsoft and Apple attempt to do the same thing. Sony will be on v2.0 and the others on 1.0

Not the best Idea seeing as how when they first came out with a pc based store my account was hacked an people STOLE REAL MONEY FROM ME. Plus shared out my game shares and torrented the games.

WCKidRock | March 26th, 2010 at 2:05 pm

screw downloadable clients, web-based is the way to go…

ImpossibleReason | April 4th, 2010 at 10:21 pm
That would be awesome if you can do this anywhere or use your psp to allow your ps3 to autmatically turn on download/install then turn off when you are away. Would be great if you were on vacation. Come home, relax a little by playing some newly bought games.

I very much agree.

Why are people down ranking this! Who wouldn’t want the option to initiate downloads from the website?!
30
HMS_Victor | June 25th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
This would be good.
For example, if I’m downloading a demo, I’d rather do it on my PC while I’m doing some work or something else and save it to a USB stick and then install it on the PS3 instead of waiting for it to download on my PS3

Aikidou | November 23rd, 2010 at 5:21 pm
Really if they could make the Media Go software available for Mac that would be all they need. But when you buy it, the title would be added to your automatic update download.

kamikaze_joe91 | January 4th, 2011 at 3:45 pm
Yeah it would be cool to download movies while at work and then just come home to watch them.

Jake20202 | April 11th, 2011 at 7:37 am
That’d be cool.

matthews2810 | June 4th, 2011 at 1:10 pm
That would be a really good idea.. it would also mean that I could browse through the PS3 store when I am not at home… to look at new offers and deals etc… then if I like it I could hit download and arrive home with it already installed.
An alternative could also be (if your PS3 is turned off), that you hit download on Mac/PC and when you turn on your PS3 and sign in, the content automatically begins to download
