Locking games to a user PSN ID is OK, but preventing users from backing up their save data is ridiculous.

Im on my third ps3!!!!! i lost saved data twice for about half of my 19 plus games
( you would figure 16 years making and upgrading the PLAYSTATION these small things would not even be an issue )

i agree when i came down ill with glandular fever all i could do was play on the playstation meaning i completed assassins creed 2 to the maximum possible and now i have a job from leaving school and instead of playing on the family playstation i bought my own hoping to copy all my saved data from the family one to the new one but because of this bloody copyright thing i cant and i dont actually care about trophies so to be given the option to copy my saves would be great infact be a peace of mind cz i wasted so many hours on that game :) please sought it out and bring out updates which take it off

fbarias89  |  May 20th, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Please, let us backup those locked saves, just encrypt them like the entire huge (10+ GB) system backup , that’s likely all we want to solve this issue.

benstorkey  |  June 10th, 2011 at 2:36 pm

this sucks big time, ive invested 90+ hours into my favourite fallout title, to find out that i couldnt play it on my second play station

(i have one at my house, and one at my girlfriends that i brought so i could play my games there!!)

benstorkey  |  June 10th, 2011 at 3:58 pm

an no i dont want to pay a further suscription to be able to do this….

Ive PAID for the game,

Ive PAID for TWO consoles,

i just find it amazing that considering that fact, that users do not have controll of there progress in said paid games,

what amazes me even more is sonys decision to add it to the Plus service when locking it to PSN ID is a better fix,

its all about money…

sony i have to say, i own a KDL-46EX723 tv, a HT-AS5 sony surround sound and two ps3′s 250gb and 320gb ive always like and been loyal to sony, but seriously, all the crap you put us through as consumers, i for one will be samsung, and xbox, or if they turn out to be like you, good old PC gaming again,

from someone who actually is realising SONY arnt the brand they “used” to be.

THIS NEEDS TO STOP

I do not mind if the save is tied to my account but it is MY save I should be allowed to back it up if I so choose. Sony needs to make a patch to REMOVE the option completely form the PS3 then developers cannot force it into games.

208

DarkHarmonixer  |  June 19th, 2011 at 11:38 am

and Cloud Saving does not count as if we want that we are FORCED to PAY for it.

TheRealAlpha2  |  June 21st, 2011 at 8:00 pm

I can understand locking things like game data for songs in some games but if I cant copy my save to a USB drive and my system dies then the data backup utility is POINTLESS and I’ve lost that game save because there’s not way to transfer it to a new system without using that PSN plus clod save garbage that I have no interest in paying for. Just remove the part of the save file that are copy righted so I dont have to loose my progress!!!

OTUpia  |  June 30th, 2011 at 8:43 am

It is the most ridiculous thing you could ever think of.
I want to backup my AC2 saves but can’t.
Stop treat your customers like junk.

APA_CJ  |  July 9th, 2011 at 12:54 am

I voted for this since I like soon to be many have preorder PS3 games and are faced with these facts that you can lose the data because of this crap I lost my Ps3 to YLOD and I did not send it to sony because they will give me a new one so I take my hopes to a local repair guy but yesterday I received the call that is beyond repair the HDD is alive and all I care all the price I put in the PS3 is for the ability to save my hardwork hours of gaming I have listed the games I have that can be played on the xbox too and the preorder I will change it to xbox ones since sony is losing the exclusivity war, I like my xbox but on my perspective some games play better on the PS3 controller and graphics

APA_CJ  |  July 9th, 2011 at 12:55 am

If in 4 months sony does not do something for those like me that have a death PS3 in the corner hoping to recuperate the hours of gameplay with a new transfer data FREE! then I will give up and abandon sony I might be along with everyone 10% of those with rate failures but I am a customer who deserves like everyone respect and treatment if xbox lets you have 2 or 5 accounts on a single HDD and transfer, change, memory stick, USB, External HDD and connection of two consoles WHY the HECK PS3 offers 2 that are not good to transfer a complete backup or just to stole $50 dollars I hope for these 4 months for a change and see if our prayers are eared

213

DrHot  |  July 15th, 2011 at 8:29 am

YES please remove copy protection! I don’t get how there can be more down votes than up votes for this.. who loves copy protected save games?

214

DarkHarmonixer  |  July 15th, 2011 at 11:22 am

i think the 88 thousand is people who are FOR REMOVAL of the locks . also what the companies do NOT realize is that the lock ONLY hurts legitimate gamers as those who want to hack the leader-boards or the trophies and multi-player will get around the lock. So ALL they are doing is hurting the Legit Gamers not the hackers.

Here is the easiest solution Sony should make a new update that REMOVES the option all together that way save CANNOT be locked at all.

But as someone said above it is all about MONEY.

215

APA_CJ  |  July 16th, 2011 at 2:00 pm

it hurts even more to those like me who have a PS3 console taking dust because of the YLOD and cannot recuperate the hard worked hours dedicated to the PS3 games

216

DarkHarmonixer  |  July 26th, 2011 at 6:09 pm

there is now another reason to hate CP saves. apparently CP saves CAN cause error 80010038 when you try to do a FULL HDD back-up and if you want to do the Full back-up you HAVE to delete those saves

217

dnglebrry-b0i  |  July 28th, 2011 at 11:43 pm

I exchanged harddrives and backed up what I could, but it did not back up everything and it was a Complete Pain in the @$$ that half my games lost certain parts I worked on, then there was a firmware update and now I can’t get my other harddrive to work without reformatting it >:/

OLYMPUS22  |  July 30th, 2011 at 4:03 am

This is very unfair for single players. I understand that online play needs to be protected but the single player games should be able to be shared with friends and family. We have five Playstation 3′s in our home and over 110 games. How do we share our saved files if they are locked? There is no need to lock the single player campaign. There should be 2 separate saved files – the single player and the online multiplayer. The single player should not be locked. We have paid for the game and worked hard for the saved file and now we can no longer share them. I don’t think that it is fair that I have to pay $70 per year, plus my children have to pay $70 each per year to share “our own” saved files and we live in the same house. SONY – THINGS SHOULD GO BACK TO THE WAY THEY WERE. DON’T WE PAY ENOUGH FOR THE CONSOLE AND THE GAMES ALREADY!!!!

219

DarkHarmonixer  |  August 1st, 2011 at 6:25 pm

i agree Olympus but what they are trying to “protect” are not tied to the save file BUT to the Account so it is pointless to begin with.

220

IRON_CROSS_619  |  August 4th, 2011 at 6:37 pm

+2 Olympus,

While my friend plays games here and would like to take home HIS game save he can’.

Last night we rented Duke Nukem: Forever and guess what… It’s protected… Now he has to start fresh on his PS3.

Also it would be nice to copy the game data EX: Game Updates, Stuff copied from disk. Etc.

It should be tied to the PSN only. Not locked to the system.

So now if he wants to play locked games at my house, hes going to have to bring his system…

Its like we went from memory cards to lugging the whole system now…

Queretano  |  August 9th, 2011 at 10:36 pm

I’m planning to upgrade my first gen PS3 from 60 GB to a 750 GB monster, and those locked files, especially Gran Turismo 5, keep me from sucessfully trasferring ALL my data from one hard drive to the other. I don’t want to spend countless hours to get cars that can never replace the originals.

And that it can’t even be part of a backup is unacceptable.

Hopefully, I can transfer the save datas for locked games to the PSN online save folder to prevent that loss. Just the locked files. I don’t care about my online profiles because they will remain untouched, its just those stupid locked save data.

Sony, please make an update that locks save datas on PSN and not a single PS3. It will ease the pain on all of us.

222

APA_CJ  |  August 12th, 2011 at 11:38 pm

So simple if you can’t do what the xbox does with switching hardrives with no lose data, then create the best selling accessory of all playstations the damn MEMORY CARD to save our single player saves

I WILL NOT PAY YOU FOR SOMETHING THAT IS FREE AND SHOULD BE FREE THE DAY ALL THE 3 CONSOLES CHARGE ME UP TO SAVE MY DATA I GO TO PC but is not going to happen Sony $50 is too much even a $1 is much because the service has been free or with a simple purchase of a memory card

You have till october and november or I just cancel my first 2 reserved PS3 games along with other 2 coming on november and buy them on the xbox 360 version (some games look better on PS3) since you are not helping at all with this stupid problem

223

ZeroG777  |  August 30th, 2011 at 10:41 am

I agree i spend a lot of time playing games to 100% and to find out you cant save it is aggravating! its our game and save file we should be able to back it up and do as we see fit. i don’t even care about the trophy achievements.

224

Tensaekard  |  September 2nd, 2011 at 5:19 pm

I just found out today that trophies are mandatory for all new games and thus all games made now will save copy protected files. So which way should I destroy my ps3

1. pour gas on it burn it up.
2. use a pump action shotgun on it ans blast it to bits.

I hope the dept of justice get sony or hackers take down psn again. Sony you deserve it. Can’t backup my save files or use another persons because of some epeen trophy. Buying a ps3 was a horrible mistake not to mention what I have purchased from psn without this psn. Never buying ps3 or xbox360 games ever again and staying with the ps2 until death we part.

BTW what you are doing with cloud saves psn+ is racketeering charging people to backup their own save files to bypass your own system scheme. Dept of justice needs to give an indictment.

225

LordStoneRaven  |  September 3rd, 2011 at 3:48 am

Yes please give us back the right to back up our game saves.

226

serene_elements  |  September 4th, 2011 at 9:03 am

I personally haven’t had any problems with my PS3 system just yet (touch wood). Though I would hate anything to happen and then loose any of my save data.

I think the save data shouldn’t be locked to a specific system but to the PSN ID of the gamer who is signed in.

227

RyanEsau  |  September 7th, 2011 at 3:10 pm

I agree,It’s ok to lock Save files from one ps3 to another by psn id but locking from backing up your save file completely is ridiculous and unfair to gamers.

228

the_coon47  |  September 11th, 2011 at 10:41 pm

I’m 14 and my parents r divorced and I just got dead island and now I can only play it every other week this is just a ridiculous a move to make everyone buy playstation plus so u can use the online storage

229

AngelGabrielle  |  September 17th, 2011 at 7:53 am

This is insane I want to create a backup from all my files (because I’f gotten myself a new PS3 (more memory space) and I wanted to send my files over) I’m not a PS+ member cause I don’t want to pay for that, and now I can’t back-up any files at all, (because they are lock files) Damn it do you want me to buy new games or what!

230

letzshake1  |  September 21st, 2011 at 6:03 pm

Just lost my Dead Island data, randomly corrupted itself after being online and I have to ask why the lock is even worth it. I don’t want to wait an entire day just to download a save from my Playstation+ Online Storage. Plus status certainly hasn’t proved very useful in the year that I’ve had it, only a select few games, any good is nullified by the locked data which cannot be copied to anything.

231

Tensaekard  |  September 23rd, 2011 at 9:46 am

I hear the new vita psp2will have trophies so “ALL SAVES WILL BE LOCKED”. I hope people learn of this soon and don’t buy the POS. I was looking forward to a game remake on it but now no way I won’t touch it ever.

232

ShadowDV  |  November 8th, 2011 at 3:08 pm

Just want to thank the developers of Rocksteady for not locking save files on Batman: Arkham City and Naughty Dog for not locking the save files on Uncharted 3. Why can’t all developers follow suit…..EA. I am able to play my games on which ever system I want with no restrictions.

233

JayMonty  |  November 10th, 2011 at 1:01 pm

Hy my ps3 has just did an data rebuild as soon as i wiched it on without my permiting it to an now i have lost all saves and all trophies wtf iv paid for things on psn an the stupid console just deleted it all, anyone know a way to some how restore the saves an trophies

234

soulless94  |  November 15th, 2011 at 5:37 pm

i’ve thought of this for a while…now that my ps3 is 3 years old, i worry every day now about not knowing when my ps3 is gonna kill itself…and if i can’t copy certain game saves that i pour 50-100 hours into and it dies…i’m gonna start throwing bricks

235

ShadowPhoenix18  |  November 28th, 2011 at 9:38 am

The day I discovered this, it broke my heart. My hard drive had a crash, and I lost 150 hours of Dragon Age gameplay, which subsequently caused me to find it difficult to play again. I had been backing up other saves and wanted to know why I couldn’t back that one up, and would the same thing occur on games in the future. This isn’t Sony’s issue. It’s a developer’s issue. They are the ones who choose to lock the save data in their game. I don’t think Sony has the jurisdiction or authority to demand they unlock their saves, except by not buying the game project, which might hurt Sony as much as the developer if they are banking on the popularity of a title generating huge opening sales.

236

ShadowPhoenix18  |  November 28th, 2011 at 9:43 am

To Jay Monty, the things you bought on PSN are easy to restore. Go to your account, and then go to download list and redownload them. The trophies are stored in your PSN account so just log in and sync, and you’ll see them again. Your biggest loss are any trophies you earned the day the system shut down, plus all saves. Invest in an external hard drive bigger than your PS3 hard drive and regularly do backups to it.

Cornbread79  |  December 19th, 2011 at 8:20 pm

Copy protection is a dumb idea, i cant play my madden 12 franchise on another console because of the copy protection. Someone make a patch to fix it please

238

Cornbread79  |  December 19th, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Sounds like Xbox 360 would have been the correct choice when i was buying a gaming system

239

MinXDeth  |  December 22nd, 2011 at 4:46 am

I think the developer has no business locking save files of a USER/Gamer. I could sorta understand locking demon soul’s save file because of the nature of the online but seriously? Its a game not a physical exam that your taking for hours upon hours in order to go to the moon or anything ‘important’ for that matter.

Hacked trophies exist regardless of the few paranoid developer’s and their locked saves. Hell, xbox is the same way, some people somehow get away with cheating the rewards. But they are worthless to everyone except the owner so whats the point? I doubt anyone who has a shred of pride would accept the lie as truth when looking at their fake achievements. As if their resolve meant anything anyway?

The inherit flaw with copy protection for anything is that the people who wouldn’t abuse it get abused by the controls while those who were meant to be given the boot for trying to abuse, get to abuse by getting access anyway by ‘those paths’ the point is, it doesn’t hurt anyone EXCEPT the GOOD PEOPLE. This goes for ALL HEAVY DRM.

Just lock the save file to the user name, thats all you need.

240

MinXDeth  |  December 22nd, 2011 at 4:57 am

What’s really funny is, with the way it is right now, take a clear/complete save file of your own user profile or someone else, it doesn’t matter: most if not all games won’t automatically re-trophy anything anyway. It just doesn’t work that way (wish it did) but right there should prove to people that unless you load mass save files that are just a moment before some kind of hard trophy, you can’t lame them.

And hell, if you actually had a legit file, of your own, and because you didn’t sync trophies, you have to start the game AGAIN and get the trophies all over again.

Now, I’m not sure if you can re-unlock trophies within a complete save file, and just play a new game or not yet, but I’ve heard it to sound like you have to temporally delete your original save file, make new one, play and get all your trophies again, then you can go back to your old one and play your completed game while having all the trophies you actually had to re-earn again.

crapdraw  |  December 25th, 2011 at 9:51 am

its a stupid idea ,i have 2playstations and like to play on both but this stops me enjoying my consoles ,,very annoying…

242

hussler87  |  December 27th, 2011 at 1:55 am

Just stupid, it is our data we should be allowed do do what we like with it. Remove it now sony!

243

244

JordanCameroon09  |  January 8th, 2012 at 11:45 pm

it will only get deleted if your hard drive is messed up dont worry for tht

245

Nedrith  |  January 12th, 2012 at 12:52 pm

when I had to delete my ps3 username to fix a bug preventing me from activating any games it was annoying to have to upload all my saves to the PSN just to be able to keep my saves.

Some of them took a second, just transferred them to a new user, some took 5-10 minutes, downloading wasn’t much better. To be able to keep only one save per a game was also annoying, I play RPGs alot and usually create saves at important or interesting parts. So I ended up losing probably 50 or so saves in total.

Atleast allow us to do a backup all saves on this user option that would compress and encrypt and whatever else you want to do to stop us changing them if that’s the point and back it up to a flash drive or whatever. Sure we wouldn’t be able to backup individual saves this way, but atleast if something like the above happened I could just hit the button copy it and have all my saves after. I could also do a weekly backup if I wanted as it should be a quick/painless process.

246

RoadRocket77  |  January 15th, 2012 at 5:29 am

yeah, I hated this with my Demon’s souls and my Dante’s inferno games.

247

Joven-Gorza  |  January 25th, 2012 at 11:07 pm

I just changed the HDD on my ps3, I tried using the back up utility 10 times each of those times when I was restoring the disk it gave me an error 800283E7 I did look for the error and said that the file was corrupted after the 10th time I gave up and decided to move my save data manualy only to discover that 3 files were copy protected Heavy Rain, Assassins Creed 2 and Mass effect 2 the profile file so for the mass effect since I used the EA servers was able to recover the info but the other 2 games I cannot copy ¿any suggestions on to how to get those saves? or as to why the backup is not working? the thing is those files are complete I even got all the throphies so I really dont want to restart those games any suggestions?

248

BMJ2K7  |  February 1st, 2012 at 3:37 pm

What would remove a lot of these problems, is give everyone the cloud for free! And have their gamesave register their username on their save. But also allow copy to a USB to save time as well!

249

crozzover69  |  February 4th, 2012 at 12:58 pm

Yah, the data backup didn’t include my GT5 save and I was just about to buy some extra content. Great Sony, Now all my customers at Best Buy will know that the PS3 and probably Vita will suffer these consequences. I will also relay this info back to all my fellow co-workers.

250

S--I--M--P  |  February 15th, 2012 at 10:22 am

What a joke! I paid for MY game which includes MY save files. I’m about sick and tired of Sony and their garbage. XBOX is sounding pretty good right now.
