There are users who take away from the fun with constant use of racist/ bigoted remarks. Is it so much to ask to report them, if a certain number dont like it, they get booted.
PS3 gamers can now report users with the firmware 3.50 udpate. Reporting functions can be found in the FRIENDS category. http://bit.ly/aFvJgi

Unfortunately the feature could be abused by large groups or by clans. Either way, this sounds like it would be up to the individual game developer.

TheLonelyStoner | March 17th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
If there was a lot of people in a clan reporting a single person then Sony would be able to see, they’d see the reports over time and if someone keeps getting reported from different people in different locations then it would be pretty obvious that those people are being disruptive, I’m all for this feature.

No, horrible idea. It’s been proven time and again in MANY games and on 360 that the report feature gets abused and people end up being banned just because someone witih a bunch of friends doesn’t like someone else. If a certain dev wants it in their game, fine, but it shouldn’t be a PSN feature.

Kyleworks | March 17th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
Darth-
I think PSN could work on the feature though. Sure, it can be abused, but so can most things. If Playstation notices all the reports are coming from a group of people and they are all on each others friend list, then that should be a red flag.

There is an official playstation complaint forum available to everyone already http://np.us.playstation.com/complaint/pc/ComplaintForm.aspx
Also most Online Games as far as I know have their own in-game reporting system or within their website.

isnt freedom of speech one of the great things about this country people like you are the reason were losing our freedom. censorship blows say what you feel and f**k everyone else

imajinetion | March 17th, 2010 at 2:11 pm
Only if there is some kind of substantial feature that proves what the person did. This can be abused so easily.

Ragnar | March 17th, 2010 at 2:13 pm
As it stands, writing someone’s name down and posting it on Sony’s complaint form is something that I don’t think most people do. I can see how being able to report users could get abused, but I think the pros outweigh the cons. We shouldn’t have to put up with racists and homophobes on PSN.

DeMolay88 | March 17th, 2010 at 2:13 pm
asking Sony to implement this is like asking Sony to charge us for PSN.
I say NO to this.
Besides, the people who always report are total hypocrites anyways.

Darth-Krayt | March 17th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
Yea, but it’s not that easy. Companies like Sony can’t keep track of specific people on your friends list. It’s a violation of privacy right. A feature like that is just too easy to abuse. People would be getting banned left and right for simple smack talk, which imo would be another violation of rights, i.e. my freedom of speech.
Contrary to popular belief, people have the right to say what they want. I mean even the Klan has the right to throw rallies. If you don’t like what someone is saying you have the right to ignore them or mute them or block them. But you don’t have the right to silence them.
I remember back in my Xbox days, I was banned for making fun of this guy hitting on a girl in the game non-stop. I was busting his balls, he got mad, and since he had a bunch of friends in the game, they all teamed up and reported me, and I got banned. It’s not right.

Free speech exists in the public space, but PSN is not a public space. Each one of us signed Sony’s Terms of Use, and in that, there are rules prohibiting hate speech. You might not like it, but you agreed to it.

Ragnar | March 17th, 2010 at 2:27 pm
At the very least, there should be a way to report offensive user names from your PS3. Behavior is a little subjective and hard to prove, but user names are fairly concrete.

Actually, I think that there should be a report button, Sony has ways of seeing if a player is glitching, it shows up in the servers…Just follow through with actually banning ppl, and things will work out, but until Sony puts there foot down on the FREE servers that we play on, we are at their mercy!

SergioDaly | March 17th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
there is a black list for users in XMB, i think that if you add someone there, he can’t play with you on-line again… ain’t that the way it works? if isn’t, it should be!
19
ProSoldier14 | March 17th, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Omg this is really needed sometimes. But like others said this can abused.
20
redheadedoljamie | March 17th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
There is a mute button.. and a block list. No reason to have to report people at all. If you can’t handle someone badmouthing you while you play a competitive game.. maybe you shouldn’t be playing the game.
21
SDkngsht | March 17th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
this is definitely overdo. i think some people might abuse it and report people just because they got spanked but if you make it a significant threshhold where Sony reviews each one somehow (i know easier said than done) and looks into it.
there are definitely some people who should be banned from playing online.

MrBeatdown | March 17th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
Not the coolest feature idea ever, but definitely something PSN needs. I was playing MotorStorm: Pacific Rift online the other night and a couple guys kept parking their big rigs on the more narrow routes and completely ruined the race.
Heck, even applying an up/down vote system like the one here to each user’s account so we can vote them down if they decide to act like an idiot or vote them up if they, well, play nice, might even work.
Also, the ability to forward obscene messages from users to Sony would be a good way to cut down on all the racists rants (usually involving my mom) that people send on PSN when they get owned in a game.

The1stMJC | March 17th, 2010 at 5:18 pm
Bad idea because those jerks would just use the report feature on non jerk people. I remember in KZ2 getting those reported messages from people for just being in 1st place.
Having the ability to mute people and block them is good enough.
24
SirTrigalot | March 17th, 2010 at 5:51 pm
I like this but as others have said this could come back to bite people.
25
FaSeCeX | March 17th, 2010 at 7:55 pm
nice idea but hope it doesnt get implemented…use ur mute button problem solved..or put them on ur blocklist
now if it was for glitchers then some method to keep track that u dont have repeat submitters and x-amount of submissions for the same offense in a day over a period of time…i think it would b obvious that someone doesnt like u n had all his buddies/clan report u if u have one day out of two wks being reported for glitching

Sony would put safeguards in place to make sure it doesn’t get abused. Making tons of false reports is only going to get the reporter banned.
28
ziggurcat | March 17th, 2010 at 11:21 pm
while this is a good idea in theory, the reality is that people will abuse the living daylights out of this feature. i would not want to have my PSN account suspended for “cheating” simply because i outplayed someone online.
29
burnedearth | March 18th, 2010 at 2:48 am
I do not like this idea simply because higher ranks would want to ban new players to an online game because no one would want them on their team which could result in someone not being able to play online.

Kamiboy | March 18th, 2010 at 7:41 am
I resent this suggestion, racists are people too you know. How about a little tolerance?
31
kNoWlEdGe22 | March 18th, 2010 at 10:58 am
Yes… not only do I like this idea, but I also think we should be able to report a game issue directly to Sony from the XMB…
32
Hidstar | March 18th, 2010 at 11:51 am
Yes, but only have real reasons count. Not that anybody could just say you did something wrong while you didn’t.
Also maybe allow the person accused be able to say something, ‘bit like court.

Needs to be left to the website because the system is abused too much on Home and people get falsely banned all the time. If something serious happens you can get someone reported on the website but leaving it on the website keeps little kids and clans from falsely reporting people.

shadowknight32 | March 19th, 2010 at 6:57 pm
no use they can just get another account unless they do it like stupid xbox
37
gtamike_TSGK | March 20th, 2010 at 9:12 am
Nah that would be a bad idea.
People could get friends or even forums, youtube etc to lie about someone (to ban someone) they don’t like….
38
HasimirFenring | March 22nd, 2010 at 1:25 am
I really think we need a flag option or something like that, some people really cross the line
39
Justtinho | March 22nd, 2010 at 7:13 am
In newer game booklets there is a link to report users.
40
akibake | March 23rd, 2010 at 5:41 pm
I think blocking the user is sufficient. Blocking can’t be abused.
41
mixenitup | March 24th, 2010 at 3:14 am
I dont think people realize how much time and money it would cost sony to police and run such a feature.
42
DarthSpooky | March 24th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
It will be abused. If you can’t take the time to report them on the website, it isn’t a worthy offense.
43
KuyaNai | March 28th, 2010 at 5:05 am
I agree to this. But it’s better if it’s Report Message rather than Report User. I somehow agree that a feature such as Report User can be abused. And I believe that it’s hard for PlayStation to track whether those who are reporting a certain user are friends or co-clans that basically just hates that user. With a Report Message, PlayStation can see the message given by the abusive user and prove whether it’s rightful to be reported.
A very good idea is also a feature wherein each count of ‘report’ is equivalent to a certain sanction. For ex: 1st report – warning; 2nd – 24 hour ban from creating messages; 3rd – 1 week ban from creating messages; 4th – 1 week ban from PSN; 5th – 1 month ban from psn.
But the count of reports should go back to 0 during the 1st day for every 2 months
44
Omega2079 | March 30th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
There’s already a method to report abusive users. Making it more accessible would open it up for more abuse of the system (false abuse reports).
45
fuzzyclutter | April 1st, 2010 at 10:13 pm
theres already a report feature and abusers of the system get banned themselves . all reports are investigated and validated .simply getting reported wont get you banned . there has to be sufficient evidence . and number of people reporting you is not sufficient by itself . heres the report link … use it wisely and only if you think their is sufficient evidence . http://np.us.playstation.com/complaint/pc/ComplaintForm.aspx .
One more thing if your getting attacked through text or chat DO NOT RETURN FIRE !!!! you could face a ban yourself by doing so .

Yeah it would be great if we would be able to report users. I can’t believe how many times I have run into people who harass me or send me inappropriate messages…

Kyleworks | April 5th, 2010 at 3:23 pm
Zombieland and Sekajipo. Im 24 years old. Im grown. No, I dont care about cursing. It just gets old when I want to play a game and get bombarded with rednecks yelling “yall Fukin Naggers”over and over.
