Seperate PSN logins for each player

Idea 231 | Posted in by | March 17, 2010

It would be nice if players 2 through 4 could log into their own PSN accounts so that if we play split-screen online, they would show up with their own PSN ID instead of guest, and could earn trophies

This feature is already available. Developers just don’t use it. Resistance 2 allow for duel login.

Returners  |  March 17th, 2010 at 1:38 pm

Borderlands’ latest patch has that as well.

3

IdleHacker  |  March 17th, 2010 at 1:39 pm

It’s only partially available, and the game has to manually implement it…you can’t earn trophies with player 2, and it should be implemented at the PSN level, not the game level.

METLGEAR  |  March 17th, 2010 at 1:49 pm

I agree some games have it but not all? When my friend comes over he already has his name on my PS3. Why cant he sign in to save high scores and trophies? Sacred 2 has it….Sad but true that game is soooooo buggy and it has it. Just make it a firmware edit. Like when player 2 or player 3 press the ps button on their controller it loads their friends list rather than player 1′s and so on.

dagundam  |  March 17th, 2010 at 1:50 pm

LBP and Resistance 2 are able to do this.. Why not???

Xbox 360 has this, and I hate to do this, but that’s one of the many things that the Xbox still has 1UP on the ps3.. :(

6

Jaylaf  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:06 pm

LBP makes use of it as well, but I can’t remember to what extent (trophies?). Of course, it DOES allow item unlocks for player 2, which shows the possibilities.

7

DeMolay88  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:06 pm

LBP does this i believe. and So does resistance 2.
instead of leaving this up to the games designers to implement this, sony should just support it themselves on the xmb.

8

Jaylaf  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:07 pm

Whoops…dagundam mentioned LBP already. Sorry. :)

9

Crapotin  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:09 pm

It has been standard on the 360 for years now, I can’t believe this is not available on PS3 yet…

10

issa3032  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:45 pm

Absolutely right, Resistance 2 does have this feature and any developer can utilize it. LBP can easily integrate it as well since it already supports multiple profiles.

11

KIDamazin  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:46 pm

dammit, you stole my idea! :( Anyways, this is an excellent idea and Sony better listen and do it. I don’t like it when my brother unlocks trophies on my account when playing a co-op game. I want to earn it myself! :-)

12

PhlebiacMendax  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:50 pm

You can indeed earn trophies [some] as the secondary account in local LBP.

13

Carl-G  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:54 pm

Or why can’t we have saves like say TimeSplitters 2 on the PS2 on PS3 multi-player off-line games?
So every player has their Stats? Fed up of player 2 & 3 & 4 Stats not being saved on PS3 games. And most i can’t change the names to? It seems game makers have gone backwards this gen :-/ The LBP way is ok to tho ;)

14

sanji_blue  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:01 pm

This is a must. It would be perfect for games like Resident Evil 5, Trine, Rock Band, or any other competitive and cooperative multiplayer game. I know you can do it Sony. =)

15

WoWix100  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:22 pm

I was really surprised when I found out my kid brother couldn’t play Lego Indiana Jones with me on his profile. The feature shouldn’t have to be applied manually by developers.

16

Tribal9499  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:24 pm

This would be great if implemented at the PSN level. I’m a gamer dad and am raising a little gamer that is turning out to be pretty good. She’s been helping me with MW2 Spec Ops Missions and it would be great if we could both earn trophies on one playthrough rather than having to replay them on her account.

17

Diego_BC  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Some games have it, but I think split-screen online and offline should be in most of the games, so we can play with our friends being in the same room (:

18

NoobianGod  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:45 pm

This really should be in each game. I loved that Resistance 2 added it in (with a game patch I think???), but to have ANY multiplayer split screen game available to have a buddy add to their own PSN Trophy list or leaderboard is just necessary.

19

jper007  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:52 pm

This would be great, and would it be that difficult to make?

20

bst10  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:27 pm

This would be great if more games had this option. I hate going to my friends house to play cod and not being able to use the stuff I have unlocked.

21

syk1288  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:32 pm

You need to describe the post a little better.

Castle Crashers is going to need this forcefully.

22

23

Machine_God  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:29 pm

This is actually pretty nice IMO.

24

MakaiOokami  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:45 pm

I down voted it because this idea is already implemented. It’s not Sony’s fault that you don’t pay attention to games or firmware updates.

Go bug the developers about this. Not Sony. I request this request get stricken from the records.

25

pixel_geist  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:45 pm

I say no. Too many opportunities to “boost” in multiplayer games like Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

26

skywalker6705  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:59 pm

This idea is implemented on a small scale. The call really needs to be for exapanding it or making it easier for developers to implement. LBP and Resistance feature it, but I do not believe that trophies can be earned by both players when playing locally.

Games such as Pixeljunk Monsters are a good example of why this is needed. Perfecting the entire island twice just so both players get credit is frustrating. What really needs to happen is a method for Trophy registration on multiple IDs at once. If playing Warhawk with 1-3 other people, you should all be able to login and earn your trophies for ranking up. Notifications for anyone other than player 1 could potentially be skipped if problematic, and could be awarded when the user next logged in on the XMB.

Ryan_Som  |  March 17th, 2010 at 6:20 pm

This has been one of the biggest gripes I have with playing same screen or split screen MP. The “other” console does it, so I never understood why it would be so difficult to incorporate on the PSN. Hopefully this is one of the things they take notice to and add it down the road.

Ironically it’s this, cross-game chat, and a few minor other things that are the only thing holding the Playstation experience back from being perfect.

28

SnoopYTimes  |  March 17th, 2010 at 6:31 pm

Vote UP! Great Idea. Two people in the same PS3 with different accounts. And both able to unlock trophies as you go.

29

thestr1ker  |  March 17th, 2010 at 6:33 pm

It’s already incorporated into the PS firmware, however it’s not possible (e.g. not doable) for the OS to add this functionality to games. If developers don’t add support for this feature to games there is nothing that can be done.

30

Senjutsu_Dav  |  March 17th, 2010 at 6:49 pm

Yeah, that would be nice. Right now, my friends only play as “player 2″ and only I can have trophies and stats… That’s THE MAIN THING playstation is lacking over the Xbox 360 right now.

31

Shredfan777  |  March 17th, 2010 at 7:36 pm

why is this a developer issue? Sony may be giving freedom for the creators, but it creates an issue for the customers “gamers” and creates confusion. “it only does everything…as long as you’re player 1″

32

madman32395  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:00 pm

i wanna see it where you can see your messages on the multi-login

33

Rhino136  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:23 pm

This is my most wanted thing for the PS3. I could play fighting games using my custom characters and they could use theirs. MW2 spec-ops, Army of Two, RE5, Modnation Racers, are all games that could benefit greatly from this implementation. Right now me and my bro would have to take turns playing on each other’s profiles during all those games and it dumbs down the experience.

34

ChocoboJoseph  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:48 pm

There have been several games, especially little big planet and ultimate alliance, where my room mates and friends wanted to play it with me but got hesitant and decided against it just because they didn’t want to have to play through it again for their trophies.

35

xjustice1920  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:53 pm

it seems like 1st party developers does use this feature, but 3rd party devs still doesn`t find the time to use it. So, sony i think you should push these devs and make this mandatory.

36

bentl78  |  March 17th, 2010 at 9:02 pm

I find it strange how Resident Evil for xbox can have 2 user log ins to earn achievements, while ps3 version doesnt~ as some of you guys point it out, LBP and resistance offer it already..

37

DeliciousBLT  |  March 17th, 2010 at 9:04 pm

Resistance 2 does not allow it though. Yes you can log in with another account, but you can’t do anything on the other profiles. It just says your profile name. You can’t earn trophies, send/receive messages or look at your friends list.

38

XxDeathDoctorxX  |  March 17th, 2010 at 9:07 pm

yeah sony add it to the ps3 not just by title

39

Neoness39  |  March 17th, 2010 at 9:32 pm

Supposedly you can for some games. But I hope it becomes a regular feature.

40

WillPG1212  |  March 17th, 2010 at 10:24 pm

Yes please! make it a PS3 feature instead of relying on developers to impliment it (since most won’t)

Resistance 2 allowed for multiple PS3 and PSN logins

and LBP allowed multiple PS3 logins.
but so far thats it..

majority of other games rely on the “guest” account, which often loses all progress when the game is reset.

41

StevenRafael  |  March 17th, 2010 at 10:51 pm

This needs to happen. It is the sole reason I choose multi-plat split-screen games on the Xbox 360.

42

StevenRafael  |  March 17th, 2010 at 10:52 pm

Also, if this can not be done through the firmware, then it should at least be made mandatory for developers in to incorporate, the way trophies were mandated when released.

43

Shutdown_21  |  March 17th, 2010 at 11:10 pm

I agree it definitely be less a hassle but it gotta do it for all the games!

44

45

Sunnyok  |  March 17th, 2010 at 11:36 pm

OMG this is a Great Idea! Rate up for u!!!

46

IRONSIGHT454  |  March 17th, 2010 at 11:59 pm

I would add portable saves or online storage so you can use your game progress on another console.

Also, a discreet way to enter your password would be nice. The other 3 people watching you log into your account with the on-screen keyboard might not have the best of intentions.

47

CaptainHavok  |  March 18th, 2010 at 12:28 am

Very much this, both for multiple account logins and simultaneous trophy earning.

48

Ashitaka96  |  March 18th, 2010 at 12:31 am

It would be great if support were mandatory but, then again less and less games these days has local multiplayer support. Which bugs me quite a bit. Game mode choices are mostly ether single-player or online only multiplayer, case in point Killzone 2.

49

Mohako  |  March 18th, 2010 at 1:05 am

this would be very nice. someone above said this is already availalble but how come i havent ever seen anyone able to do this? please think about adding this sony. as it would be helpful for me to just type in my info and play on the same system and be able to get trophies on a game im playing against my freind on offline :)
