Software Emulation for PS2 games

Idea 203 | Posted in , by | March 17, 2010

Even if it were a paid add-on, I’m sure many PS3 owners would be thrilled if they could play PS2 games on the system directly. While software emulation may not be perfect, it’s better than nothing!

I’ll be waiting for a rpg, a strong and powerful title, and most likely I could say that for many games. They just are not as good as the PS2 games that’s all there is to it. The story is not fun enough, feel deprived of soul, too short and hard to get in for the most part.

I got over 150 games saying so on ps3 and 350 on ps2.

Of course, there are a few good titles for every genre on ps3 but they are short, and next in mind where are the roleplaying games for USA/CANADA release??!? I mean real ones with tons of fun and content, long story and mind-boggling puzzles??? I’m waiting… until then I ain’t buying new games for PS3.

I maybe got all shooters, all hack n’ slash and many more of other genres..fighting games hrm… but MY KIND OF GAMES ARE ROLEPLAYING GAMES, got it!? =p

So name me one console that has more RPGs than ps2, where are most of the rpgs it’s ps2 and where else..ps1.. so why the hell can’t I play the hundreds of titles I got on that console…is Sony insane scratching their fans in the face after the most successful console in history with PS2??!

Just make the emulator so that we can play OUR DVDs on it… fans happy, Sony happy, more people playing the console and more people looking out for their new games. It’s called popularity, and guess whats old out PS1 was FFVII and many other games but guess what does sell consoles now… ps3 games because they are not strong enough.

I work in a video game store and I’m studying for game designer so the hell with I’m not into it.

I want my fun Playstation consoles and cool games to enjoy again that’s all I want, Sony keep your word even after all those years.

I almost sold my ps2 just because i wasnt aware that this wasnt included on the ps3 slims. lol good thing i didnt. i hope they do this. Prefereably free, but yeah id be willing to buy it. i got too many ps2 games that are collecting dust because i dont feel like setting and disconnecting my ps2 all the time. It can play ps1 games, why the eff cancel out ps2?

I was first under the impression that ps2 games were NOT compatible with the ps3 gaming system.

After some research/info from a few friends who had it I found out I was wrong, and eventually gave up my reluctance to buy one.

I have only had the ps3 for a few weeks now, finally decided to try out a ps2 game, and much to my horror, dismay, disbelief, irritation etc it would not allow me to play it even after installing that ps2 modification that allows SOME games to be played.

I even kept a few ps2 games I really enjoyed believing I would be able to play when I wanted too, but no that is not the case at all.

I have always enjoyed the games on the playstation more-so than any other gaming system; however, if something doesn’t change with this I really doubt i’ll enjoy buying future games for it. There is also no way in he… double hockey sticks that I will buy a ps4 if its not compatible with all previous versions of “older” games made by sony.

The backwards compatibility of “older’ games is a huge reason I have always prefered sony over most other gaming systems.

What they want us to is to purchase the PS2 games on the PSN and most of us have had purchase the games before! Why would they do that?

guys I have an original 60GB PS3 and I’m from the UK so I can play PS2 games but recently I have tried and failed to play Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy because I need to download something called PS2 System Data however I can’t find it in my PSN store and apparently it’s only available in America is this true and is there anything I can do short of getting my PS2 out

Now that Sony is selling PS2 games on the store, it’s obvious that this functionality is easily available to our existing PS3s. Sony, you need to open this up NOW. There is no reason, except for greed, that this should not be on our PS3s today. You can still sell PS2 games on the PSN and rake in the money. You’re already doing this with PS1 games and doing just fine.

I’d love this! Bring it on. Who cares about the people that have voted against it! I’d love to have that feature re-implemented into my PS3! I still have PS2 games I wanna play. I won’t buy another PS2, but I’d sure as hell get this!

I recently bought a PS3 thinking they were better than xbox for having backward compatibility and free network. Now I know that PSN is still free but not for the good stuff and now I have to RE-PURCHASE all of my Silent Hill games (except the first one, how gay is that)and that’s only if ALL of them become available on PSN sometime. I shouldn’t have to re-buy my games…. STUPID! I should have gone XBOX lol!

1823

SteveO_GOW  |  March 2nd, 2012 at 10:25 am

What kind of idiots would vote against this? It really makes no sense at all.

I would be willing to buy a ps2 plug in device. Hardware and software built in.Just plug it to the ps3 to use as a monitor. The ps3 would probably upgrade the picture quality anyway.

fantasyplayer  |  March 17th, 2012 at 5:56 pm

If Sony won’t do at lest let a second party get it done.I’m sure someone wont’s to get the money for a cure for this problem.

GAMESPARKPRO  |  March 29th, 2012 at 11:23 pm

I really miss my old fat ps3 that can do everything like play ps2 games it also had four usb port hmmmmm why did Sony make a slim instead of upgrading the fat model so it would last longer or at least work for the 10 years that its supposed to i will never no lol

1832

GAMESPARKPRO  |  March 29th, 2012 at 11:24 pm

BRING THE PS2 FEATURE BACK!!!!!! lol

1833

Haigarax  |  March 30th, 2012 at 6:52 am

Below my TV I have one of each current-gen console…. and my old fat PS2. Starting it up and playing with my wired dualshock which is about to die is just a nuissance. I never touch it anymore even though I’d love to replay many of my old games.

This would allow me to put the PS2 into some cupboard (finally).
Sure, you could sell the games on PSN as well but let’s face it; the range of games is…. lacking at the very best.
None of my games is actually on there.

Please, Sony! The Silent Hill HD collection is awful!!! I want to be able to play the original PS2 games on my PS3 Slim! I don’t want to buy PS2 just for 2 games!

1836

sirauron14  |  April 2nd, 2012 at 6:54 pm

After 2 years I’m still waiting to see this… I hear hackers can do it. Sony should do it no problem. Don’t put your products to shame sony.

SoleAddict23  |  April 4th, 2012 at 12:32 pm

It’s sad and pathetic how Sony has removed this feature from not only current PS3 models but from their consumers. BC has always been a PlayStation trademark, was a PS3 feature from the beginning and even released on PS3′s. You advertise your console with this feature and release PS3′s with it and than remove it, you even refuse to give your consumers a PS2 BC PS3 when they send it to you to fix it.

If you removed it to reduce cost, okay, now add it again because PS2 BC is not expensive at all and costs of PS3 are cheap enough that you make a profit. If you removed so people will buy more PS3 games, okay, people will still buy PS3 games, having PS2 BC won’t stop that in anyway. It will actually make more people use their PS3 because when they want to play a PS2 game they will on their PS3 instead of PS2.

This is for the convenience of your customer, also, that your consumers really want this feature that CAN be added easily and was even a feature on PS3′s before.

You just want people to buy HD Collections which is a F You to your consumers because you force us to rebuy our games and force us to get the PS2 out or rebuy one to play our PS2 games.

1838

SoleAddict23  |  April 4th, 2012 at 12:38 pm

PS3 should have PS2 BC, PS2 games on Store and HD Collections so the consumer has a choice of what is best for them. If you already have the PS2 games and don’t care about owning a digital version of an HD rerelease than you can play your PS2 originals. If own the PS2 original but want a digital version or HD rerelease you have the option, or if you don’t own the PS2 original you have the digital or HD version. It gives the consumers OPTIONS, it’s for the convenience of your consumers, your MONEY MAKERS. Again, if you don’t release PS2 BC on PS3 this year, you will lose positive points and gain negative. Remember, not everyone is a blind, loyal fanboy.

Why would they do that when they can force you to buy the limited selection of PS2 games that they offer on PSN

1846

OzymandiasX225  |  April 29th, 2012 at 1:09 pm

2 years later and this idea still isn’t implemented. I’m not suggesting that the ideas are a to-do list. But the whole point of this is to give Sony the hint that backwards compatibility is a very popular idea.

Besides, from a moral standpoint, it’s not right that they are re-releasing PS2 Classics on the PlayStation Store while we can’t play the games on disc – making us rebuy what we already paid for.
With PSone classics, it’s different because we CAN play those on disc.
It’s not like they released any PS2 classics that are worth rebuying anyway…

Yeah 2012 and still wish they would do this it would be a great ideal might even help console sales. I know they sell a few ps2 games on the psn but thats not what we want we dont want to pay 4 the game we already have even if its cheap off the psn

White_JackaL  |  May 3rd, 2012 at 11:19 am

this would be awsome iv been dying to play Xenosaga 1-3 for years now and life line as well as some other old ps2 games that sony wont seem to put on the psn.

Carl-G  |  May 5th, 2012 at 1:38 pm

Come on SONY, the PS3 has been out over 5 years now i am sure you can stick the PS2 chip back into a New PS3(& it won’t cost you much to do it now i bet) & give PS2 fans what they want + you would get extra PS3 sales to because i would buy another PS3 ASAP! :P

budman107  |  May 8th, 2012 at 7:48 am
