Bundle Bluetooth Mics with every PS3

Idea 3829 | Posted in , by | March 18, 2010

Many times people in games, especially shooters don’t use their mics. If Sony packed one into every PS3, it would bolster the community and help online play a whole bunch.

MAG really should have came with a headset… i mean i’ve had one since they came out but considering the large number of players per game… a headset really should have came with MAG… even though i hardly us it when i play… lol (<–counter productive much)

Yeah more headset bundles would be great.

3

BatiX  |  March 17th, 2010 at 6:22 pm

Headset sku is a must, really

pencil420  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:13 pm

@ 1 i Agree

98% of mag players do not have a mic. I use the ps eye.
Of alll the people with mics half say things like “I just died”, “Take that ****” OR “He’s in the trees”. The other half have non-relevant chit chat.
Even worse are non-medics and difficulty of discerning the veterans.

There is a trade off here. People often complain about xbox live because it is filled with kids shouting abuse at each other. Kids can’t often afford/justify buying a headset, which means the majority of PS3 owners with a headset seem to be adults.

That said, I would prefer it if everyone I knew had the official Sony head set and most of them don’t.

6

tomstockmail  |  March 18th, 2010 at 3:22 am

Nah, let’s not bundle headsets. Too many kids will be heard in my opinion.

7

thekiddfran  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:53 am

no way, look at xbox live. That is a joke, with every 12 year old kid screaming on it when they get killed.

8

GigoByte  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:54 am

But it would get mostly everyone talking =P

9

Blackwtr_Merc  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:55 am

This would also increase the price of the console.

10

compy905  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:56 am

Ughh, I would have to mute even more 12 year old kiddies.

11

Azuvidexus  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:57 am

It would probably also make the PS3′s price higher.

12

Razrsharp  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:59 am

I think this would be a good idea, it would make the online experience more social and fun, and it would be an extra incentive for people to get a PS3 because of an included Bluetooth mic.

13

Lucca202  |  March 18th, 2010 at 11:02 am

Are you REALLY suggesting they raise the console’s price with an accessory people might not use?
And even then, only to bring hordes of 12 YOs over to PSN?

No way =(

14

S_T_A_L_K_E_R_RU  |  March 18th, 2010 at 11:06 am

Good idea but it will never happen

15

Superstrokey1123  |  March 18th, 2010 at 11:25 am

I dont know if this is a good idea at all. Sure it wold be great to improve chat but all the morons out there make it bad. I think if you could do group chat only and be able to report people is a good idea. Other than that i would say no.

16

acer1661  |  March 18th, 2010 at 11:29 am

i would say include a cheap wired one, they can upgrade later if they want, but make it easy to mute people in every game etc

17

Velinton  |  March 18th, 2010 at 11:31 am

That is a good way to stand in front of the ideal of Microsoft to connecting people. Having a mic on every console will make a tremendous difference to effectively having a talking people on multiplayer games. Statistically, there aren´t many people with mic today…. And if you guys gonna charge for a PSN with voice thing, is a good way to encourage the signature.

Johnson-Nick-55  |  March 18th, 2010 at 11:39 am

I’m 50/50 on this one. I would like to have more people with mics. But, I think most people do have mics, they just choose not to use them.

The other 50 is that I don’t want to hear little 12 year old brats talking [DELETED].

19

sega651  |  March 18th, 2010 at 11:41 am

oh yea…….

Lets just jack the price up even more for a mic that most people woulden’t use, or people will just mute the people that do use them. bad idea

20

crazybaste  |  March 18th, 2010 at 11:48 am

but if it wre a bundle @sega651 people would use mics more because they wouldn’t have to pay an extra $50 for one

21

FORMIK  |  March 18th, 2010 at 12:17 pm

A mic doesn’t bring kids to a system, games do.
Also, it doesn’t have to be in both versions, just included in the 250 gig version.
Remember, this bluetooth device can be used with cell phones unlike the competitor’s setup, which would even more incentive to buy the system.
I think it would be a good way to increase the amount of mic users.

22

K3ViNPwNz-  |  March 18th, 2010 at 12:19 pm

idk seems like a reasonable ideao

23

Skater_Ricky  |  March 18th, 2010 at 1:11 pm

Include it instead in Bundles like MAG.. it should of had a Bundle including the game and Offical Sony Bluetooth headset.

Not sure why they didnt.. it would of been a great way to introduce more people with mics and also make more friends.

Socom did it.. lete hope SOCOM 4 does this. i hope SONY is reading my Comment :D

KAHJAH1  |  March 18th, 2010 at 2:32 pm

As for the “12yr olds” arguement. I totally understand that. I’m and older gamer and don’t like to listen to immature people on mic. The thing is i’ve been gaming long enough to see terrible mic behavior from 12 year olds and grown adults. I don’t think that arguement holds much water, plus you can mute people, I do it on U2 all the time. As for the price, I can understand that people get upset about that but most of the people who are here on this blog have systems already. For those who say “it’s a accessory that most people won’t use” It’s just another version of the system for people to have. It’s all about choice and growing the community IMO

Sons-of-Helghan  |  March 18th, 2010 at 2:58 pm

if you do this, there’ll be more annoying squeaky kids screaming in your headset.. -1

26

Chewie1967  |  March 18th, 2010 at 3:07 pm

This is the first suggestion I feel compelled to comment on.

YES

Every PS3 console sold should come with a headset. Every one.

This is one area where the 360 has a huge advantage over the PS3. Everyone uses a headset. On PSN, very few have them.

Clearly the future is online. Help support that with bundled headsets.

27

MikeE21286  |  March 18th, 2010 at 3:53 pm

It doesn’t have to be the bluetooth mic….maybe one that connects to the PS3 controller somehow.

28

kurisub  |  March 18th, 2010 at 3:56 pm

Honestly I would love this…yes you would have a lot more idiots talking, but for games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 for example…where people actually need to communicate and work together, this would be a godsend.

29

Wolfram23  |  March 18th, 2010 at 5:39 pm

If not a bundle, maybe a discount on buying the offical mic.

30

rgoff31  |  March 18th, 2010 at 5:47 pm

Some kind of coupon included with with a New PS3 so people could get one for free for mailing it in or a discount.

31

Blackxino  |  March 18th, 2010 at 9:10 pm

and then come across racist and annoying kids?

I don’t think so!

32

Blackxino  |  March 18th, 2010 at 9:22 pm

and PSN to be riddled with racist and annoying kids!?

I don’t think so!

someone else have this already!

33

J_RICH_2009  |  March 19th, 2010 at 2:35 am

yEAH THAT WOULD HELP BRING A BIGGER AUDIENCE 2 ONLINE CHAT FOR THE PSN

34

b1gm1ke2521  |  March 19th, 2010 at 4:53 am

It should be bundled with the games that actually need it such as Killzone 2, Battlefield 2 and MAG.

35

dr_krucifix  |  March 19th, 2010 at 6:02 am

the problem with the online communitie is the lack of a headset which isn’t included when buying a ps3. Online gaming is getting more important over the years. I have a ps3 but I also have a xbox 360, With the 360 you know that everybody has a headset, you make more friends this way and it makes the experience a lot better. It is also a way to keep your people on your console, because people don’t like to leave their friends to go to an other console or when the console dies, they just buy the same console. Just include a headset or make it a lot cheaper. I know for sure, if the online experience will get better, because of the headset, the more people will buy a ps3. I have a headset, but I never use it, because no one uses it, and that is just a shame.
Love the ps3 btw, just finished ff XIII, will be playing god of war 3 soon :D

J-Reezy  |  March 19th, 2010 at 7:38 pm

Pros – word of mouth with regards to games, movies, content which I would imagine increases sales of games (especially PSN games); bolsters the community, really makes a strong incentive for folks to switch over to PSN vs Live; multiplayer games have a greater potential of maintaining players (Fat Princess, FPS, Warhawk, etc)

Cons – more people means more ridiculousness. It’d have to have mute (everyone but my friends or selected players option)

Personally, I don’t think it has to be a Bluetooth headset. It’d benefit from a cheap decent USB headset. Its the simplest way to foster community and empower word of mouth.

37

Poontab  |  March 20th, 2010 at 5:01 am

I actually love the fact it doesn’t have one. If you actually want to chat you’d have do something for it instead of opening the box and just talking for the sake of talking. I’ve had a PS3 since launch and I hear more and more as it is, and that’s not a good thing. In Burnout and MAG I have a hard enough time finding anyone who doesn’t speak Italian, French, or German nonstop the entire time barely taking a breath. I won’t go into CODMW2 kids. It’s weird but I think I liked it better when PS3 was more expensive!?!

AmnesiaInnocent  |  April 5th, 2010 at 7:13 pm

Nothing’s “free”. Including a headset with every PS3 would drive up the cost (to Sony at the very least) and a good number of those headsets would go to waste—perhaps the gamer already has a headset, doesn’t want to use a headset or prefers a different style of headset.

People should be able to make their own choices regarding headsets and Sony shouldn’t waste money…

40

htwyford  |  April 6th, 2010 at 2:45 pm

perfect i doubt they cost very much to make

41

COMBATCSOLDIER  |  April 6th, 2010 at 7:28 pm

If I could reach through the computer right now and give you a hug I would lol

THumbs up and this is A Fantastic Idea!!!

Sony may not realize xbox 360 bundles head sets so why cant we get some to..

42

BlazeKush420  |  April 6th, 2010 at 8:08 pm

There is a cheap rocketfish one wired for 20$. Now I dont use it no more. But something like that would be great to put in with the PS3. I myself have Turtle Beach P21s.

43

COMBATCSOLDIER  |  April 6th, 2010 at 8:27 pm

@5

HEY BROTHER. DO THE TURTLE BEACHES WORK FOR THE PS3 AND IF SO…. THEN HOW… I KNOW THEY ARE COMPATIBLE WITH XBOX BUT I DONT KNOW ABOUT PS3.

SAME GOES FOR ANYONE THAT READ THIS.

IF YOU GUYS KNOW OF HEADPHONES THAT WORK FOR THE PS3 THEN LET ME KNOW SO I CAN BUY THEM. THANKYOU.

44

sa3vis  |  April 7th, 2010 at 2:20 am

I agree its a good idea but currently most of the people I hear online with them either play music over them, let background noise play over them or spout randomness into them(e.i. singing rapping or just talking for no reason and to no one.) At least the PS3 community doesn’t have the constant racism of the 360 and for that I salute you.

45

AnthonyTonyMagic  |  April 11th, 2010 at 2:04 pm

Why don’t they just bundle the PS Eye instead. I’m not sure about the retail price, but on Amazon the Eye is cheaper than the Bluetooth headset, and it comes with a mic built-in.

I like headsets when people in the games don’t go around shouting childish abuse. If they do, I prefer to go without.

Has anyone tried Dolby Axon surround sound chat yet? It’s great, because your mic is mapped to your position in the game. If you start shouting or playing music you get slaughtered :D
Unfortunately I don’t think it’s on any PS3 games yet

46

Whois_John_Galt  |  April 12th, 2010 at 7:20 pm

If it’s a starter bundle it can’t be the main package, now can it?

47

SHANECARPENTER07  |  April 12th, 2010 at 7:25 pm

ya it can because microsoft didi this with there system and it got them to be where they are today. i know if sony didi this the ps3 would make a even biger come back then it didi when the slim cam out.

48

SgtDewy  |  April 12th, 2010 at 10:06 pm

you forgot to ask them for shoes, and a hat.

49

DragonRay  |  April 13th, 2010 at 2:17 am

I think a headset should be included with every ps3 but not a game or movie download ( not everyone could use it since not all have internet or can download movies even if they do )
how could a free game download work ? one free limited to $10 ? a certain game ? what if you didn’t want that game or want a $15 game ?
how about if you are in Canada or mexico or wherever you can’t download movies ? or live somewhere there isn’t a playstation store ?
they could have a bundle but it can’t be the only way to buy because not everyone can use it .

50

SHANECARPENTER07  |  April 13th, 2010 at 9:57 am

well i was talking about a usa boundle. pluss aventaly you canada people will be able to buy movies of the psn store so then you will get this bundle
