I’d like to see sub accounts change to master accounts when the account holder comes of age.
My brother made a master account for himself once he turned 18 because his sub account didn’t change.

How does this not make sense!!! I need to remove my adult child’s account from under my master account? I do not believe he should have to delete his email account or create another one as his friends and PSN friends know his current account. I also do not want to support his email account into my 50s and should be able to remove accounts from under my master account as I see fit. He would like to establish his own master account with his current account.
With this much following, this should already have happened.

I have always been a loyal playstation fan, but this is seriously reason enough for me not to buy your next console. Forever being tied to a sub account and thus not being able to tie my account to facebook even though I’m 19 years old is just stupid. And I won’t just throw away the trophies and stuff that I have out the window to make a new account. How hard can it be to make such a small feature work? I seriously think you’ll never change this considering how long PSN has been out there. So if you haven’t changed this like.. tomorrow, then screw you, sony.

So now that i’m moved out, I’m STILL a sub account. Anything i’d like to buy from the store has to go through the master’s PSN wallet. My options are now forced into deleting and re-creating my account? Apparently foresight isn’t one of Sony’s strengths.

This is as simple as it could get. I’m about to turn 18 next year which frankly is pretty close. I don’t want to be stuck at being a sub-account forever…

Just a question, can people who have turn 18 but are still using sub accounts play online? I’m 17 right now but there are some games which I cannot play online.

Why is this not an option yet? It should be a no brainer.

My older sibling, who is the owner of my apparently-still-sub-account, is soon moving out. Imagine what I’d have to go through if I wanted to buy something. I don’t want to have to get permission for that, considering I’m years over 18 now! C’mon, Sony!!

SlyCooperFan100 | January 17th, 2012 at 4:51 pm
What?! I thought this was already a part of PSN! It needs to be added, NOW!

i’d love to see it happen too. i got a sub account when i was like 15 years old. now i’m 19 years old. i want a master account without losing trophies and friends…
on the bright side i can buy stuff with the master account’s money without his password

It’ll never happen… but at least I tried also. +1 vote here. +1 disgruntled sub-account user!

It is a little incongruous that PSN ID’s can’t be changed but if you want to keep the account name you started with below 18 has to die off on your birthday to create a master. This leaves a lot of parents scratching their heads or simply starting a master account for their underage kids.

Exactly^. If only I knew I would have lied about my age. So much for being honest with it. PV VITA is coming soon and I want to be able to use facebook with it …

I’m very concerned that this doesn’t have any more votes. But I’ve also been hearing that Sony is voting down its own costumer ideas! How crazy is that! I really hope they update this soon because I’m turning 20 this year and it’s ridiculous that I can’t use a lot of options, just for being HONEST. Sony is punishing the HONEST people.

Maybe if enough game magazine sits notice this issue, they’ll make an article about it. That way, more awareness of this issue. I’ve been trying to tweet to ign, gamespot, 1up about it. Maybe if more people do it, it’ll get their attention.

This needs to happen and now. I’m so angry with Sony for this, have been for a year. I rang up and they said it can’t happen. All my hard work into trophies etc and I can’t do f**k all about it because I’m a sub account and god knows how that happened when I signed up on a BRAND NEW PS3 at the time. I’m 19 in just under 2 months and it still isn’t in action. What is wrong with them? Why should we suffer. Why should I create a new account and loose 3 years of hard work? Sort yourselves out Sony. I’m really not impressed.

StreetRat16 | February 4th, 2012 at 11:14 pm
Please Sony, don’t punish people that were honest about their age and eligibility for master account status. We enjoy PlayStation and PSN, and want to be able to fully enjoy that without having to sacrifice trophies or anything else. This is a simple and reasonable service to users, and shouldn’t be difficult to implement.

Couldn’t agree more with this one, I’ve just turned 18 and I still can’t even log into the EA servers for games like Skate etc!! Essentially it would appear that Sony is saying that we should have lied when we entered our date of birth no?

I got sick of my sub account under my old user name and about a year ago I created my own master account. On my old account, I was at level 14 or something like that, on my new account I am at level 6 right now. Before I did that, I emailed Sony to see if they were going to let you change your sub account to a master account anytime soon. They said no.

totally need this. I hate the fact that my little brother set everything up first so he is the master account and even though I’m now 19 and he’s only 16, he has full privlages and I don’t. and I really don’t want to have to make a new account. It’s not like the ps3 in our house is his and yet he’s got the control.

Roxas_by_heart | February 13th, 2012 at 8:00 pm
I have the same issue. Now that I’m older I want to be able to have my own master account but I can’t get it switched. So now I have to get a new account and lose all of the stuff I got for free from the PlayStation Store, like the free games they handed out and my Uncharted 3 Online Pass Code. I even lose the stuff I payed for. PlayStation, please fix this problem.

LanceNAT | February 13th, 2012 at 10:10 pm
It is simply baffling that this option was not available from the start of PSN. Even if sub-accounts have to forfeit access to their master’s wallet and content upon promotion, this should still be an option for those who want it.
178
sidearmin | February 16th, 2012 at 10:35 pm
I am wondering, is the 2000+ votes for or against this? This is a very good option that should be added. I have had a PSN account for a few years now, and I do not wish to redo all of my saves, trophies, re-add all of my friends, and have my account’s name changed. I like the account I have now, and I do not wish to lose this account when I turn 18 later this year. Vote FOR this option everyone! We all need this!
179
JoFramboos | February 20th, 2012 at 2:21 pm
The way it currently works encourages people to cheat with their age from start on. And that’s not what Sony wants, isn’t it?
180
SparklyVamp22 | February 22nd, 2012 at 7:48 am
Didn’t realise that my account wouldn’t change over when I turned 18. Although I haven’t got many trophies I still don’t want to lose everything, especially my name as its my name for most things. I’m so sorry Sony that I didn’t lie about my age like most of my friends did.

mcaltamirano | February 22nd, 2012 at 3:27 pm
Sony, please allow sub-account to be upgraded with Master-Account privileges. I made my sub-account the same time I made my master account, and I was 26 at the time. Or at least merge my accounts to one, and combining the trophy info. I have certain online passes activated with my sub account, because I played/earned most of my stats with that account.
182
Dewey_D_Truman | February 27th, 2012 at 10:26 pm
It genuinely frustrates me that the only way I can upgrade to a master account is to pitch all my games, saves, trophies, etc. It’s ridiculous. I don’t ask for much but this should just be common sense.
183
Crazy-Maisy | February 28th, 2012 at 7:36 am
Please allow this Playstation! I have 4 children getting older every day, and soon one by one they will graduate to adulthood and … be tied to me forever, or forced to strike out on their own, starting from square one.
That’s not what we signed up for. We signed up to play, and this is not fun. It’s more than a headache. With a PS Vita now, it’s really not fun. No NEAR control for my child’s sub account. He can’t use it as is, with parental controls not having any say about it.

Sean_Pierce | February 28th, 2012 at 7:56 pm
I can say for sure 4 people have voted DOWN on this since.
You’re supporting this idea therefore vote UP.

I would like to see this in an update for the psn, as I come close to turning legal and I for sure do not want to make a new account just to have the extra features an lose all of my trophies, data, and online play time, and unlocks.

TehMuff1nM4n | March 6th, 2012 at 11:01 am
This is even more of a problem with the Vita coming out. I am either forced to make a new account and lose all my stuff or not purchase a Vita
187
stevex196x | March 6th, 2012 at 9:56 pm
It is becoming a bigger issue as time passes, I for one would like to purchase things on the Playstation Store, but the master account is dead weight.
188
Kyle756 | March 7th, 2012 at 6:16 pm
Whats really sad, is that the competition (xbox)has had this ability. The fact that my account is stuck as a sub account when I have so much content tied to it, is pathetic
189
Kyle756 | March 7th, 2012 at 6:17 pm
Plus the Vita can only be tied to one account, which makes this even more ridiculous. Come on Sony, work with us here.

I have a son who has recently turned 18 and needs to be upgraded to master account. As long as the current master logs in and changes the account to master, I don’t see the problem. The ability has to be there, this seems to be SONY somehow worried about liability in case of abuse more than anything else. If so, then why not have the current master account “agree” to a statement stating that SONY isn’t liable for anything if the newly promoted master account is “abused”. This doesn’t have to be difficult SONY, make it happen.

Kisura1992 | March 10th, 2012 at 1:36 am
I thought it would change automatically when I turned 18 but then I noticed that I still had parental controls on my account. It’s really a hassle cause I feel like whenever I try to do something (like going into a chat) I have to call my dad to change things so I am able to. And now even though I can pay for it myself, the play station store wont let me purchase anything cause there are “no funds in the master wallet”

Have kids that are growing up, need to have the PSN sub account grow up with them.

I am saddened to be reading all these comments from 2010 in 2012 … Whens the last time playstation network ever did anything for us (the gamers)? I am starting to believe that Xbox live is much better (although I truly think a ps3 is better than an xbox) afterall they can listen to their music while they play their games they can perfomr background downloads and psn just teases us about background downloads (press the home button during any download and it will say ” you can not perform background download on this content”) but never really lets us do any of it (except for a few things of the psn store) … Psn really needs to step up their game… This is sad… This request was made 2 years ago…. I really hope psn will have this fixed by the time I’m 18

I need to create an account for my son, but am stuck at what to do: create a subaccount which will always have restrictions, even when he turns 18. Or create a masteraccount using a wrong birthdate. This is really so stupid, I can’t believe Sony never changed it.
198
WCKidRock | April 10th, 2012 at 12:09 pm
I am not sure why this isn’t an automatic thing when the sub account holder comes of age (18). or at least have the option for the master account to promote the sub account when they are of age.
199
The-No-Pants-Guy | May 2nd, 2012 at 6:04 pm
After going back and forth with customer support, (which was a giant hassle, because they seemed overly-reluctant to actually answer my question) I found out that, right now, the only reason we can’t get upgrades to master accounts is:
“At this time, the amount of information that is associated with the account’s status is too great to transfer from a Sub Account to a Master Account. Changing the account’s status would disassociate any game progress, friends, trophies, and other data, and is something we can not do at technical support.”
