The core idea is a storage device within the controller for easier data and PSN ID management. Forget about which data can transfer and which can’t, its on the controller and now it’s portable.

Until your controller breaks. This would also make the controllers even more expensive than they are now. Although I guess I can see a market for it, people pay for stuff like this in computer mice…

brother no disrespect but that was last generation. now we all use digital memory sticks.

COMBATCSOLDIER | March 18th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
controls break easy and are over priced as is

PlayHero86 | March 18th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
What exactly is last generation?

MrBeatdown | March 18th, 2010 at 3:51 pm
No. Controllers cost to much already. I’d rather not have them stick more junk in my controller.

I like this, kind of like with the WiiMote having 10kB.

Horriblle title for this thread…went into this thinking you were a Natal fanboy.
Cool idea, but controllers are way overpriced as it is…I’ll stick with my dirt cheap USB thumb drives for transferring my info.

Wii ripoff. this would give sony bad publicity

What about a memory card slot on the remotes?

I kinda like the idea of having the Controller be like this generations Memory Card.
It would make bringing all your saved games over to your friends houses easier! I already bring my controller to my friends house anyways!

fuzzyclutter | March 18th, 2010 at 9:14 pm
controller breaks /gets lost or stolen . there goes your data and your psn id . Game over .

Tayrtahn | March 18th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
The Dreamcast had its memory card (VMU) slots in the controllers. It was an interesting idea, but not all that useful… I just copy my save files to a USB stick when I want to bring them somewhere.

Microshock | March 18th, 2010 at 10:05 pm
This isn’t the Gameboy or DS where you have saves on the cartridge. USB sticks are much more convenient and cheap

gamesadict89 | March 19th, 2010 at 9:13 pm
I came thinking you were trying to post Natal-like ideas here lol, I seriously was like WTF IS THIS?
But, no, it would just make the controller more expensive. Just use a USB stick.
And what would happen if the controller breaks?
“Oh no, I had my MGS4 save there!!”

gamesadict89 | March 19th, 2010 at 9:15 pm
@11 lol.

Storing that info in the cloud and allowing login from any system, would be a much better solution.

COMBATCSOLDIER | March 31st, 2010 at 11:02 pm
no brother. Controllers are fragile enough and I would not trust it with my saved titles. Now if you could put an external memory stick like a psp memory stick inside. Then that would work.

Johnbegood | April 1st, 2010 at 8:38 am
@Combetcsoldier
It’s not like it would ONLY be stored on the controller, just a copy of the saves. My PS3 can already use the memory sticks from the ps3 anyway, it’s just a pain to copy them all.

Thumb drives are so cheap and ubiquitous. I don’t see the advantage of making a controller that incorporates one…
22
SurferTC | April 1st, 2010 at 6:37 pm
This a wretched idea. You can get a 10gb thumb drive for 25$ and I can carry it around with me. Paying 110$ for a PS3 controller would be insane.
23
tomstockmail | April 1st, 2010 at 11:00 pm
I actually did this with a hardware mod. It’s quite useful, too bad people think it’s a bad idea.
@SurgerTC
Why would it be 110$?

COMBATCSOLDIER | April 2nd, 2010 at 11:37 am
Just in my personal opinion, I truly dont see how this would be a worth while idea. It would almost be like moving back in time with sega dreamcast controllers and original xbox controllers. I hated having to use those memory sticks.
I respect everyones opinion here, regardless this idea just isnt for me.
25
lunchbox206 | April 2nd, 2010 at 5:43 pm
that would be a good idea, make it like the wii mot
26
Johnbegood | April 3rd, 2010 at 12:40 am
@tomstockmail
I made a hardware mod too…ducttaping a flashdrive to the back of the controller counts, right?
27
Techni | April 3rd, 2010 at 1:33 pm
They could add a memory stick slot to the controller. But why?
28
Demonhunter84 | April 4th, 2010 at 9:07 am
A controller? What if it breaks down. You can easily purchase a flash drive or external hard drive for cheap to backup your files.
29
mommymatters | April 4th, 2010 at 10:35 am
What happens if the controller breaks down the cord breaks.
It would also have to be pretty bulky
30
ImpossibleReason | April 5th, 2010 at 12:31 am
Well they do need a better storage setup then the one they already got. Or just buy a memory stick to save your game data. As for your downloaded games… well.. you can transfer them cant you?
31
NinjaSparx420 | April 5th, 2010 at 10:59 am
I think we have moved passed memory cards in controllers this idea gets a thumbs down. A small flash drive is simple enugh and i couldnt see why it would need an update anyways its a storage device.

Nick_392 | April 8th, 2010 at 12:11 pm
i personally like idea. lets say u go to your friends with your controller and play game like MW2 or some FPS and you already have all the guns unlocked at home it will be unlocked there. great idea.
33
Tyger0 | May 14th, 2010 at 1:21 am
I agree with Nick on this. Some of the commenters here have valid points about why it might not work but just saying that its an old idea that’s been used isn’t saying that it was a bad idea back then. I’d love to be able to take my controller with me to a friends house with all my saves intact. Unfortunately the rights protection game saves as they are right now would make this pretty useless so both would have to be implemented/changed together.

fuzzyclutter | July 12th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
then all it takes for somebody to steal your account is to get your controller .
35
FJ1100_rider | July 12th, 2010 at 7:53 pm
^^
exactly , what happens when people lose a controller or start trading controllers to gameshare ? Sony wouldn’t allow this because your personal information isn’t something you want portable .
36
SukiNihon | July 12th, 2010 at 11:08 pm
I’d like it to be portable. So we can easily take our profile to a friend’s place, earn trophies there. 360 lets you.
37
nmccall | July 13th, 2010 at 3:00 am
In addition, the Wii has a form of this, and I like being able to store my profile on it. Makes it easy when visiting someone who also has a Wii.
38
Donkey-er | July 13th, 2010 at 12:06 pm
would be pretty cool, but for that to happen they would have to release a new controller…
39
Finaldeath1689 | July 13th, 2010 at 2:22 pm
While i dont really care for having profiles saved to the controller (dont even use that feature on my wii) it would be nice to have some sort of portable device to bring gamesaves/profiles to a friends house. Currently you need to bring your entire ps3 if you want to use your saves.

Kung_Fu_King | July 13th, 2010 at 9:16 pm
terrible idea
lose your controller and someone steals your account ? and has access to your credit card on it ?
the wii may have saves of games on the controllers ( for some games ) but there’s no actual profile saved with e-mail and password like a psn profile .
just create a profile on your friends ps3 one time and you can use a flash drive for save transfers / way more secure
41
Kung_Fu_King | July 13th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
oh , btw . you don’t need to enter a ton of details to create a profile on a friends ps3
create new user , sign up with existing account , e-mail and password …. done in a minute

Pharen | July 13th, 2010 at 11:22 pm
before you all write this idea off, take a think about it. no one said it had to be onboard memory, they could have an SD card slot, where you could stick the SD card into the controller, move the save file over onto the controller, and take it with you. I think its a good idea for some people.
43
CH3SHA | July 14th, 2010 at 6:43 pm
I agree all it takes is to trade controllers or steal them,
That way not only are trophies and saves at risk,
But also theft from your account due to downloads via debit or credit cards!!!
44
Marscaleb | August 30th, 2010 at 10:28 pm
If you did this you would need to be able to write your name on it somewhere and NOT have it just rub off. Last thing I want is to have someone take home my controller by mistake at a LAN party.

The wii does this with mii’s.
DON’T use 360 taglines
