Yes, i think it’s high time that Sony’s updates it’s system to include the playing of MKV files on ps3. However, i think that sony wants to limit the damage that it will cause when people start using pirated materials. One solution can be that sony and other ps3 games manufacturers like SEGA, etc reduces the price which is quite high to target a large population as compared to wii, etc.

Also,
I have a sony KDL 55″ EX 720 3D television which recently bought and this also does not play mkv files. So that would be a plus also.
Hope Sony starts somewhere, the TV or the PS3.

Voted UP. SONY really need to respond to this, I think the compatibility on the PS3 is lagging-behind the competition!
Off-topic, there’s also a lot of features missing from the Music player, like adding En-queue, playlists for media streamers, etc.

Dont give in Sony. Divx is bug riddled. Just follow numerous hits on Error codes that Divx users post but get no answers to. Let Divx clean up their software and answer problems for paying customers before infecting the PS3 (a fed up user of Divx Plus Convertor for .mkv to PS3)

Well, next time around i’ll think twice about riding the Sony bandwagon, what with the otheros and divx incidents. ‘Nough said.

C’mon! Why the heck is Sony still not making .MKV files playable on the PS3? Especially .mkv files with subtitles!!! Converting files is a huge pain. My LG tv can play .mkv files with no problem! Seems they are just getting lazy. Get with the program SONY!

I noticed its been years sine this request for DivX+HD Certification on the PS3 was submitted. Sony obviously couldn’t care less about it, but I voted for it because its a feature I would certainly use often. It seems like a logical update… Being all too familiar with Sony’s “customer support/relations,” I won’t hold my breath.
