Please automatically choose the highest HD res supported by TV. For example if TV supports 720p and 1080p and game supports 720p and 1080p as well please choose 1080p, currently it chooses 720p.

The developers set the default resolution because that’s how it looks best. I’d rather use the resolution they intended.
But that’s just me.

Does having a 720p game set to display 1080p look any different than if it was set to display as 720p on a 1080p tv set? I dont think so, therefore this idea is not important, just leave your resolution set to the highest the tv does.

720p and 1080p is a huge difference if you have the tv with high MHZ output. Before people put down your idea maybe they should know what the hell they are talking about first.
Hey asses. Mag is 720p, FF13 is 1080p, if you cant tell the difference then your either a liar or an ass. Either way your stupid.
I thumbs up this idea completely.
Also for those of you that dont know. Every single xbox 360 game runs 1080p… Ya so shut the hell up and eat your words. This young man has a great idea.
All ps3 games should run in 1080p.

i agree, it should automatically choose the BEST qualities suitable for ur tv, just like that, without us havin to set it, we should only be able to set it to shift it, otherwise all of the settings should be at its BEST QUALITY AND STANDARDS!

GREAT suggestion! If I allow my PS3 to use 1080, then use 1080. But when running bfbc1 or lbp on 1080 only, the image becomes interlaced and cropped. When i want to play Borderlands, SOCOM: Confrontation, or Uncharted 2 i have to uncheck 720p in the display settings to force 1080.

The game developers set the game to play at the resolution at which they designed it for. I doubt forcing to a different resolution than it was intended would be useful, could have unintended results to how the graphics processor draws the picture. I seen something about the resolution topic in one of the games behind the scenes videos, I think it was either Uncharted 2 or God of War 3.

What a few just said. Some games cannot render 2xAA or 4xAA at a 1080p resolution with the framerate remaining at a playable level, so the developer runs it at 720p. Look at a first-party example, MLB 10: The Show. Read the instruction manual, and they tell you as such. Paraphrasing it says that while it CAN run at 1080p, it will be without a few visual effects, so it’s best to run at 720p. If you were to just say that the PS3 should upscale everything, then I think it would be a better idea, because it would be using a separate process of the system that wasn’t being used to render the game, and thus wouldn’t take away from any performance.

Hi,
I submitted this idea. I saw a few comments and I think that I didn’t explain it clearly since there is a limit on how many words that can be put in the idea. I was just asking to run the game in highest possible resolution if the game already supports it as well i.e., if the back of the box for the game says the game supports 720p and 1080p and the tv also supports 720p and 1080p please run it in 1080p instead of 720p.
I saw some comments about upscaling. Having an option (that can be turned on/off) to upscale games to the highest resolution supported by the tv, i.e., the game supports max 720p but the tv is 1080p, maybe a good idea too but I was not trying to say that in this idea.
Thanks.
