Sony should start notifying us via PSN messages when PSN will be down or for other important announcements. They’d also have to look different from regular messages so we can tell which are authentic

good idea except if psn is down how can you get the message ? and usually they are as surprised as us it goes down so can’t tell us beforehand .
there’s always a blog post or something in the forums about these things anyway .
final point , what’ll stop fake official looking messages from being sent .
the policy of NO official message from Sony through psn accounts is best because I know for a fact any supposed message from Sony is spam

FJ1100_rider, you’re not thinking. This is more along the lines for if/when Sony plans to have the PSN down for maintenance, or what have you. Maybe some people don’t check the blog or forums.
What’s to stop people from forging official messages? Well, for one, maybe the official messages could be an entirely different color. I dunno, say a blue background for the message, rather than the standard gray. I dunno how someone would be able to forge that.

I love this idea…
Everything they send to my PSN associated e-mail can go right to my PSN inbox. IE – Blasphemous1, Here are your PS Store Updates.
It would get me on the store a lot more… I don’t use that e-mail for anything but PSN so the only reason I even open it is to make sure i’m not full. Hence, I never up to date on their updates.
Far as the “differnt look”, just the PSN logo either in the subject line or where the envelope icon is would do nicely.
