Recording could be a 1 button press, but each time I have to do it the long way to add a few minutes padding so I don’t miss any. It would be nice to have a setting to do this automatically each time.

I’m not sure what you mean but you do know that if you press the select button on a highlighted programme, it automatically records it right?
I hope that helps.

Yes it select makes it record, but doesn’t pad a few minutes around the program. I would like an option to make the select button also pad by a pre-determined number of minutes.

Select does not pad the recording with extra time at the start and end, meaning I often miss the end of programs when they overrun or start late. This means I need to set programs the long way manually every time, making pressing select useless.

In the new PlayTV 2.01 update this was added. Thanks.
