Buy the bluetooth remote , it’s a really nice remote and synchs easily
you don’t need a different i/r remote when there’s one available already .

IR needs line of sight. the point of having blue tooth remote is that you don’t have to point your remote directly at your PS3. instead of a usb-ir, how about a usb radio freq. remote?

I think the OP is referring more to universal remotes.
Even though IR remotes are more finicky, I prefer them to bluetooth, at least as used in the PS3 BD remote. The PS3 remote is slow to respond, because it always needs to resync after a short time passes, which means your first button press usually doesn’t get recognized by the system. So it’s a trade-off: fast performance vs. freedom of movement.
Currently, as long as any button turns on the system, ANY remote would be better.

i agree the official ps3 remote has many short comings. a better design or update of the current ps3 remote needs to happen. as far as the usb-radio frequency remotes… this would be my preference at this time. :I

I’d love to use my Logitech Harmony. The Bluray remote sucks

Logitech makes an adapter for their remotes that does bluetooth.

Yes, I knew logitech and other companies made adapters. However, if Sony made one they could make the adapter really small “Mini” like those used for laptops. Right now they are too big since they have to do all the work on the adapter. If sony made one the PS3 could do all the processing necessary and the receiver would just be a plain optical IR.

Also, Logitech is ripping people off with their adapter. Sony could make them cost effective and small enough that would be unnoticeable

You imply that Sony doesn’t also rip people off? Hilarious!

well 90$ for just being able to control the ps3 with the logitech remote control is too much. I don’t see how sony rip off people with the ps3

Most of you don´t get it, the USB-IR receiver is for automation when integrated in complete systems. There are many control systems, like Crestron, AMX, RTi or Philips Pronto for example, that make life easier but requires either IR, RS232 or Ethernet control, none of which are provided by Sony. There are third party offerings but most have limitations.

I have a Sony DH810 receiver. It’s remote looks almost identical to the official Sony PS3 Bluetooth remote. I want a USB IR dongle that will let me use the Sony receiver remote to operate the PS3. Only makes sense that Sony would put out a product to help out their loyal customers. Why do I need two remotes when one, made by Sony, will suffice?

I would really like to have one remote to control everything like a Harmony one, without using an adapter.
