I would like a download manager or for it to do what my accelerator does, if the speed goes below a certain point, it pauses the dl and starts again. I know, often when I pause a dl and then resume it on PS3, it seems to start dl faster at the start and slows down after awhile, sometimes.

Yes, PSN download speeds are horrible.

I see no reason to vote this down! Some people are so stupid.

To see how this works in practice look at these images:
Without acceleration

With accelleration

Or they could uncap the download speed. I voted up, but my idea is better.

there is no download speed cap on psn , and the only reason you’ll have slow speeds is because of your isp or router settings
99% of users have great download speeds , a friend of mine took 1 hour to download the modnation racers demo and I got it in 12 minutes – we both have the same isp and router
I went and showed him how to open the right ports and set up his router properly and his download speed when testing at the ps3 went from 2mbs to 18mbs
it had nothing to do with psn – internet speeds are your responsibility
get fast internet service , and setup your connection right and you’ll have better downloads without needing an accelerator .
seriously , it’s all on your end – if if wasn’t then everyone would have slow downloads
you can easily get 20mbs downloads – I have 19.6mbs and most downloads take between 3 and 5 minutes .

I agree, but unfortunately there are many countries outside of US, UK and the other big centra where Internet access is at a premium. South Africa being one of them. If you add all those users together, it would be a larger number than one may think. Where I am the fastest Internet is 4mbps and that is very expensive. You may not notice a download accelerator at your speeds as it may make a one minute difference for you, but for us it would make a 100% difference. Such an accelerator can be in the background and invisible to users, so no-one would even have to know it is there – downloads will just take shorter.

here are the ports to open :
tcp 80 , 443 , 5223 , 10070-10080 > udp 10070 , 3478 , 3479 , 3658
also enable upnp
that will allow free access to psn without restrictions
hope it helps – I personally tripled my download speeds by setting these ports to open in my firewall settings .
they’re all listed on the sony support website

Maybe using a builtin torrent technology or P2P would optimize even more the network than a simple download accelerator…

Yes, just use torrent technology instead, would even save Sony some bandwidth cost.

@6 You expect everyone who has a ps3, of which there are some who aren’t tech savy, to set up ports for faster downloads, when it’s not our responsibility. Wouldn’t it be easier for sony to open up those ports?

“It will shorten download time considerably.”
No it wouldn’t.
Using 1 thread, the bandwidth is divided by 1
Using multiple, divides the bandwidth by the number of threads.
You still download at the same rate.

“Wouldn’t it be easier for sony to open up those ports?”
Yes, it’s easier for Sony to hack your router and open them.

they must make a download accelerator for ps3 so we can feel rest of network disconnecting .. becouse we don’t have time for repeating the download of same file 20 times .. when i reach 20% (30 min) it says (( error code 80710723 )) .. every time .. I need the accelerator very soon i hope …
