Reduce wear and tear on the power switch

Idea 37440 | Posted in , by | November 19, 2010

By adding options to shut down/reset/put to sleep onto that grey in-game PS/Home button menu. As well as adding access to the menu in the XMB. Especially useful when using a PS3 controller

there is no power switch on the slims . and if you have an older ps3 , you should be shutting down from the XMB menu , and not using the switch .

You Can shutdown your ps3 no need to hit the switch as for reset why would you need to reset it if it freezes you wouldn’t be able to access that menu anyway.

What do you mean wear and tear on the power switch?

Also fuzzy there is a power button on the slims, that could be what they mean. the original ps3′s were heat sensitive buttons.

But you are right you should be shutting down from the menu just pushing the switch has the possibility to damage the HDD (Hard Disk Drive).

“What do you mean wear and tear on the power switch?”

I thought I made it very clear but since you guys keep talking about PS3 in the PSP section… PSP needs options in its in-game menu to shutdown/sleep/restart, to go with the options to pause/quit game. As well as toggling bluetooth

I actually thought it was about PS3 too when I first read it, due to the mention of the PS3 controller in the brief.

It’s hard to get the message across clearly with such a low character limit.

Anyway, +1, just to make up for some of the people who misunderstood your post

Very True PSP also needs a “Shutdown etc” in the XMB Like PS3 has. +1

well my bad should not have mentioned the ps3 at all in your post that is why it is getting voted down, mention anything about the ps3 and people think it is for the ps3.

but i think the switch is built to last My psp is a 2000 and it is still working just fine, i just wish they could make all games work well.

I got god of war ghost of sparta and the lag is terrible on my psp 2000.

um, for the fat systems, why would you shutdown via switch in back, you hold the soft-Heat sensitive switch in front till shutdown

“should not have mentioned the ps3 at all in your post t”

Except one of the main reasons is using PS3 controllers on PSP Go

“but i think the switch is built to last ”

The switch was only mentioned cause the admins wont accept ideas unless you keep rewording them

“um, for the fat systems, why would you shutdown via switch in back, you hold the soft-Heat sensitive switch in front till shutdown”

Did you not read anything in this thread? It’s about PSP not PS3.

Make sure you read that this is for the PSP the handheld system not the PS3 =^)

Uh, yea, for the PSP I’d use an xmb shutdown if it had one, I might use a “Shutdown after finishing download..” as well. lol It shouldn’t be too difficult to add the former to a software update.

PS3 Fats: Press and hold power button 5 seconds to reset from crash.

PS3 Slims: Press and hold power button 5 seconds to reset from crash.

I always use the PS button to put my PS3 in sleep mode. Press and hold PS button to see options.

The PSP can be set to go to sleep after X number of minutes if inactive.

@17: JoeDierte: Read what you’re replying to. This is a PSP topic not a PS3 one. Its been repeated MANY times in this thread.

Nor is the sleep timer the same thing.

+1 Vote up. I’d also like to see how much battery life my DS3 has left when i’m playing my PSPgo and press the PS button. Bluetooth toggle would be nice too.

I know what you mean. The power switch of my psp of about 4 years isnt really as responsive as it should be. Instead im sliding the power switch about 3 times just to put it in sleep mode.

I hate the switch anyway. If you put it on hold, it is so easy to accidentally turn it off while taking it off hold.
