Why down vote this. It would be an OPTION so if you don’t like it you wouldn’t have to use it.

Thanks for being honest, ultimate-remag. Everyone has different opinions.

I like the new UI… but since we’re talking about an option for people to use what they prefer, I don’t see a reason to vote down. It’s always nice to have options…

I couldn’t agree with you more, kNoWlEdGe22!

i like the new ui(livearea) too but i still would like to use the xmb. +1 since its an option i’d probably swich back and forth so it won’t get boring and it makes it like a ps3 and iphone at the same time (the ui layout)

Good idea. I love the XMB, it didn’t win awards for nothing. Better yet, take it one step further, allow much more variety of themes and icon layouts/styles implemented by 3rd party companies. I wouldn’t mind paying a buck or 2 for some sweet new UI options.

Thanks!

I agree. Third party User Interface options would be a nice to have…

I would like to see more personalization for the Vita interface. With handhelds more than consoles personalization is a great boon, and something should be built in at the beginning.

I remember the big flap when the iPhone was cracked and someone developed a tricorder interface. Lets think forward and take out the “need” to crack portable electronics for this feature. Just start out that way. Dev software to personalize the interface would be great too, as some people making those interfaces bricked systems.

I’d like to see the XMB return – the LiveArea is pretty badly thought out as a GUI IMO – I have 6 games and with all the options (most of which I’ll never use, like Near, Party, Welcome Park and Group Messaging) I’m already using 4 screens. Whether or not you need an icon, there’s nowhere to hide it.

At the very least, it would be nice to see an iOS-style option to create folders in order to lump icons together and keep things tidy.

XMB with touch-screen would be intuitive and efficient. I don’t see why they had to break something that didn’t need fiddling with.

Thanks, Acteon. I think we should have multiple User Interface options so there is one for everyone. Simply, a more user interfaces to meet different people’s personalities.

I honestly don’t see the point of the LiveArea UI. It looks as if it would eventually become cluttered and unusable if you’re an active gamer. And it only has four pages? Ridiculous. The XMB was almost perfect; I don’t see why they had to go and try replacing it with something that seems far worse.

Explosio5  |  March 11th, 2012 at 9:38 pm

Thanks!

I like the liveliness of the LiveArea, but the XMB is a great interface. Both options should be aviliable…

I’m a broken record on this site, I know, but I’ll say it again: The word is OPTIONS.

Let the players (buyers) decide what they want.

Explosio5  |  April 4th, 2012 at 5:59 pm

You are 100% correct, ODINGameslayer.
I created this idea for people who liked the classic XMB user interface. It’s always good to have options.

I’ll tell you why I voted down for an optional feature. The UI for the Vita is designed for a touchscreen, while the XMB is not. (I’ll get to your options.)

Why not just have both, and allow for people to use the buttons? This dilutes and floods the system. Two user interfaces? I say instead address the criticisms of the Vita UI get address, like allowing for a folder-type sorting system, and improve upon what should be the recognizable face of the system.

It is not always good to have options when you create potential problems by complicating things.

Explosio5  |  May 11th, 2012 at 4:28 pm

I believe touchscreen would be fine on the XMB. I see no problems by having an option to change. If users do not like the XMB, I’m not saying they have to use it. I’m also not trying to confuse anyone with user interfaces. All I suggested was that there was a option to switch back to the XMB for those who don’t like LiveArea.

Mortrem  |  June 10th, 2012 at 11:48 pm

I like to not always replace my icones because I download a crappy demo. LONG LIVE XMB. And you could add the ps3 dinamic theme also.

22

Explosio5  |  June 12th, 2012 at 8:03 pm

Dynamic themes would be perfect! Thanks Mortrem!

the new interface is too… happy and jiggly!
the design have too much color and it takes so much space…
the touch features would be awesome with the XMB, specially with the trackpad…

geniuxmen  |  June 21st, 2012 at 11:43 pm

I don’t understand why they decide a new XMB with “balloons”. The last one is mroe profesional and very good looking. Maybe something like that but pretty much improved. The balloons one is too silly.

25

lemith  |  June 25th, 2012 at 3:50 pm

I don’t understand, why would anyone vote this down? For those who don’t want it, then as an option, it wont affect you.

The PS3 and PSP XMB interface is the most logical and beautiful OS in the whole world, the PS VITA interface is so ugly and feels like forced cheap Nintendo crap with happy music, spinning magical buttons and smiley faces everywhere, stop making fools of yourselves Sony and get serious, we want the PS3 XMB and we don’t want you to shove your cheap interface down our throats, you did it with MOVE, you’ve done it with HOME, you’ve done it with VITA, you’ve done it with PHOTO GALLERY, we just want a serious hardcore gamer OS, we want the PS3 XMB back.

It is always good to have options! Bless you Explosio!! I hope you earn a billion Platinum trophies!!

Explosio5  |  July 27th, 2012 at 10:09 am

Thanks BigBossCream! Sony does have serious UI’s for their devices, so why not have an option to “get serious” with an XMB option?

I extremely appreciate your support, utsavmehra.

P.S. I hope I win a billion platinum trophies as well :)

We should be able to do a lot of things, but all $ony keeps doing is locking down the device. Now not only can your system only support one account, your memory card is locked to one account. ???

So yeah, we should be able to do a lot of things but no, we can only move some bubbles and change the background. Great, that font alone needs to go.

Take the XMB menu interface of the PlayStation 3 / PlayStation Portable and add touch scrolling to it.

Honestly, LiveArea sucks. The bubbles are jagged and pixelated, basically there is no Anti-Aliasing.

Then maybe we can start using our PSP and PS3 themes that we’ve purchased.

“The UI for the Vita is designed for a touchscreen, while the XMB is not”

Actually the XMB is. It already supports touch gestures with both move and the PS wireless keypad with the touch sensor. Swipes and touches aren’t hard to add at all.

The XMB would be vastly superior to this “designed for touch” bubbles garbage. It should’ve been designed for organization and usefulness first instead of looks. Like a proper GUI.

38

Explosio5  |  October 9th, 2012 at 9:28 pm

Your support is greatly appreciated, Techni!

You are absolutely right! The XMB interface can be used on a touchscreen. Also, the “LiveArea” user interface cannot be controlled by joysticks. However, the XMB is controllable by joysticks because it was designed for joysticks!

You are also right about organization. The XMB organizes data into specific sections, making it easier to find what you’re looking for. LiveArea throws all of your stuff everywhere!

Thank you for supporting my idea! :)

I agree. In fact, I believe the current Vita UI is influenced by the XMB. It’s still a “cross”, but with no organization (or should I say the organization of icons are left to the user?).

Once you fill your 32gb card with a hundred games, it becomes hard to navigate and find what you want.

An XMB option would be great. A close second would be the option to group icons into folders.

Thank you for supporting my idea!

You are very right. The LiveArea can be a little disorganized, even with the new folder system implemented in software version 2.10. It would be a lot more organized with the classic XMB.
