Ps3 Sony Wireless Stereo Headset firmware update

After the 4.10 update, i now can hear myself when im in online chat/COD and it is really annoying, there should be an option to turn this feature off and on. Please fix this its not good at all.

This is so annoying. You can hear everything else in the room too! Customer service says they are aware of it and working on it. Let’s get this done in a day or two Sony.

The headset was PERFECT prior to the 4.10 update. It is now an AWFUL experience using it, making it practically USELESS to me. It’s almost UNUSABLE at this point. Sure, some people would prefer to hear their voice inside the headphones, but making it so the mic is ALWAYS open with no option to shut it off is just plain RIDICULOUS.

I had not played in over a week and turned on my system. Today I can hear myself in the headphones. There is also a sound in the back ground like when you would have a snow screen on a t.v. Dont recall it being that way after the last update just started today.. Also called Sony and they said is was a programing issue.

I too hear myself in the headphone and would like to have a way to turn it off. I agree that it is a great feature for some but no me. I’m not going to return them because I know Sony is already looking for a way to correct the issue.

Yes Sony, I hope you all are indeed working on this issue. This is actually the first time I’ve ever posted a comment online, anywhere. And yes, I realize that this is a “first world” problem, but it is really annoying that my headset was fantastic for many months and now I have listen to the sound of my wife watching “Real Housewives of Nova Scotia” while I’m trying to play Call of Duty. Sure, I guess it would be nice to have the option of choosing to hear yourself or not. But if I had to pick one or the other, let’s just go back to the good old days.

They need to revert it to what it was before OR allow the mic sensitivity to be adjustable. Not just 3 or off.

Even muted the mic is still on and allows for noise to be heard.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks this patch was an awful idea. Once they fix the issue of your mic always being hot; maybe they could also address the ability to run 2 at a time. Whould love to use another headset with my friend on split screen…I called an asked if Sony intended for the Headset to only allow one at a time, They told me that was intended. Guess PS3 cant* DO EVERYTHING.

This is giving me a headache. Please give us a timeline for a fix – it seems to me that all that needs to be done is give the option to change the output device and the mic level. That way everybody is happy.

This is also giving me a headache! This update has made my headset into a $100 ornament. I really hope it gets fixed soon. I bought the headset to keep outside noise out. Now I hear static, hissing, and my own voice. At the very least give those of us who bought it the option to turn it off.

This is extremely annoying!! Sony needs to fix this asap. They should make an option in the mic settings to be able to hear yourself if you want to.

However even more annoying is the constant static noise in the background. The only way to block this sound out is by turning the volume way up on the headset. Yet again, Sony proves that they are terrible with firmware updates.

pls Sony make a quick update. i have given up playing on your system because of this firmware error. its impossible to play with the headset, without turning it off. i bought the headset just so people around the house could be in piece, and so i could enjoy it too without getting disturbed. all i hear now is noise coming from the outside, kitchen toilet you name it. there is also a interfered white Noise, that also is quite annoying. these 2 things need really to be taking seriously. consider it as an option that needs to be available

I vote for the option of turning On/Off the voiceback option, and the deletion of that annoying ”white noise”, that would be great and it will please everyone out there.

I don’t think hearing you back is so annoying, it pleases my girlfriend cause I speak more softly :)

We need a fix SONY….it’s a over the ear headset what you created en for a price we all now, not a open ear headset. Please fix this static noise

Hey folks, so, I updated to the new firmware (4.11) and then went into the options to see if there was a fix for this mic issue. I went into audio device options, set the input to “do not use this device,” and now the static is gone. But, of course, the mic doesn’t work (no surprise, I turned the mic off). So, my question is: is this Sony’s fix, or is this just a work around for those of us who don’t actually need to use our mics. If this is Sony’s fix, that’s not going to cut it. I’d like to be able to both (a) use my mic and (b) not hear myself in my headphones. Any info would be much appreciated.

This “fix” has nothing to do with the update – you were able to do this before the update. In fact this is what I do when I play Uncharted online. As for a timeline of when it will be fixed, I REALLY hope soon. Although if I really think about it, it has only been a week since this started happening. It is STILL inexcusable though.

I’d say send a bunch of emails about it, inquiring for updates every day – each time you get a new representative. And each time they send you a customer survey a day later. So tell them how bad they are screwing up on the survey. Hopefully they get the hint.

WTF the patch 4.11 didn’t even fix the problem! it has been two weeks and this damn simple problem isn’t even fix yet!!! I’m freaking pissed off!!! I’m about to tell people to never buy a playstation headphone!!1 GAAA DAMMM ITTT!!!

The real problem is that the mic is always on, even when muted by the headset!! This can be easily testing by touching the mic. This creates unbearable static noise. Just got this headset and it is useless. How can this be Sony?!

I don’t want to hear my chair creaking! i don’t want to hear any thing but the quality of the sound. the sound from the headset is degraded by outside sounds like the white noise of wind or my breath or neighbors music, all those and more with no way to turn it off!!!!!! if i could just mute the mic i would only dislike this product but the quality is poo when added to all background noise ever! I will forever regardless of fix suggest against this product! omg this has Gone on too long why are you changing the thing i bought with out my permission? how are you able to do this? i feel there isn’t a section that deals with the headset in the signed user agreement. hold while i have my lawyer look over tampering with personal property. I also get a huge speaker/head bursting aberration of a noise i have to turn them off and then the tv does it too!

I just got a ps3 and head set and wow has sony slipped from their glory. devest and dismiss the brand is our only choice.

My understanding is that Sony doesn’t operate this site, but an outside marketing firm does on their behalf.

That’s coming from another poster on here, though, so I dunno.

It would explain why there’s hardly ever any response, though.

I agree. It is very annoying. This should not be forced on us. It ruins the gaming experience. I don’t even use the stereo headset for online anymore.

This “feature” has really turned my headphones from a must have to a major annoyance. Please fix this or at the very least give us an option to turn this off. I got these headphones to block out the noises around the house, not to amplify them directly into my ear!

A lot of my friends own an Xbox 360; and for the longest time they’ve been tryin to convince me to come to the dark side. Up until now, I never considered it…Sony, how come I cant use more then one of these headsets at a time? Xbox allows such features…infact you’re allowed 4 headsets per console. I hate XBox, but I REALLY hate the migraine I get from using my 100 dollar PS3 earmuffs, not to mention the second one that just sits idle on the shelf. I’ve stayed with Sony since the first console and adored it. I had my credit card info comprimised and actually used maliciously on some transactions because of their security flaws on PSN. Ended up gettin all my money back, but that was a headache for a month or so talking to the bank and VISA. …Sony you are practically forcing my hand, fix this…or my local gamestop will have an extra used PS3 on their shelf.

I agree with the above. There needs to be an option for this feature. I had the headset for a week and then they updated it, then it added that unwanted(by me and many others) feature. I too got the headset to cancel out the background noises and they are highly amplified. It is a good feature to hear yourself talk but not everything else in the room as well.

Personally i don’t need to hear myself to effectively chat with other players and prefer not to. It severely takes away from my immersion in the game and thats why the headset was purchased.

Was happy with my purchase, now i’m just sad how long it’s taking for a fix.

A mere toggle option for the headset to perform as it did before the update is all we ask.

Just terrible that they wouldnt make this an “OPTION”. Even worse if they really didnt mean to do it. Which i find hard to believe. 1 thing that does work, posting negative about the product, Im sure we all know someone who needs a new headset!! atleast my friends WON’T be buying SONY!!!

Have there been *any* updates on this? The noise is really annoying and I can no longer recommend these headphones to my friends.

As people have mentioned, these weren’t cheap and now I can’t stand to use them.

Can’t use Dead Silence in COD because, well – it’s NOT silent!!!

Hello! I’d hoped there would be a noise cancellation feature as a given for the headset but I’m pretty sure the mic picks up distant noise. Some crackling is heard at times when browsing through the Playstation store and other times. I respectfully request a firmware update to remedy these and similar issues in the following update (4.12). Thank you!
