16gb PS3 barebones model release in the USA

Idea 63688 | Posted in , by | October 15, 2012

Release a 16gb PS3 model in the USA. 80% of ps3 games don’t hard drive installs, so there’s no reason not to bring this out here.

4 downvotes? Who doesn’t like the idea of a more affordable ps3? The UK is already getting a 16gb model, just bring it out over here too.

The 12GB UK PS3 is about $100 when converted to US Dollars and price adjusted to the US Market. Who is downvoting a $100 PS3?

The North American market needs an affordable PS3.

The downvotes are because your logic is a bit off. It’s true that most disc-based games don’t require downloads anymore, but digital games do take up a fair bit of space. However, I voted up because it’s still a good idea and it’s not that expensive to buy a much larger hard drive to put in the PS3.

I think if UK gamers can survive with 12gb until they decide to upgrade their hard drive.. so can American gamers.

The idea is to get the console in as many homes as possible.

If it allows them to sell the PS3 for $200 then they should do it.

Not to mention that it is far cheaper to buy your own harddrive and upgrade.

It takes less than a minute to change/add a hard drive to a PS3. It might take longer than a minute if you’re unfamiliar with how screwdrivers work.

The price of the system would not change…

Wouldn’t it be better to have a PS3 that does not have a disc drive, but has a hdd. A cheap ps3…. it would come with a 250gb hdd so you could download full disc games from the network, no need for a drive if you really want to save money.

16gb um, it’ll kill you on Updates alone. This isn’t an good idea. I have an flash drive I bought at walmart that has 64gb for $30… also if they re market it to $100 your pretty much just buying the system. WE WANT MORE GB FOR THE SAME PRICE NOT LESS FOR LESS. tsk tsk. I have PSN PLUS that would kill me if I bought an 16gb PS3. Tsk Tsk. This idea needs to be deleted. and ok $200 for an 16gb… I don’t know how much hard drives are, but extra $50 dollars and you get an 350gb ps3 nowadays. Tsk Tsk… quit crying. seems like you want it cheaper so you can buy an ps3 to mod it something. If its that bad, BUY AN USED ONE.

Don’t you think ps3′s install games to the hard drive
For a reason? The blu-ray disk holds between 25-50gb of information, hard drives are quicker and easier to read than a blu-ray for the ps3. Taking away game installations on the hard drive would make the system sluggish and loading would take a rediculously long time. However they make large SATA 2.5″ (what the ps3 uses) hard drives. Or you could buy the hard drives seperately.

Seriously, I have a 120 gb PS3 and I’m kinda missing place. I cannot understand why someone would like a 16 gb model… Even if it is cheap, you will be able to install like only 3 big games at once and it will be impossible for you to play with DLCs… Not a good idea.

As a marketing perspective, it did made an impact on those markets, the PS3′s price drop is selling much better because of it’s new price. The HDD is always upgrade your HDD with another one later down the road. So I wouldn’t see any inconvenience on that part.
