Not everyone has a HDTV, and then there are even some HDTVs that are not capable of displaying 1080p. It would be inane to try to display 1080 on a TV that isn’t capable of it, especially for people with Standard Definition.

terrible idea , this would limit developers of small games and eliminate minis as well as make games cost more to develop and cost more to buy if the developers are forced to spend time and money making all games full HD , especially when making a game 1080p does nothing to make it a good game .
graphics are nor important , game play is – anyone that says a game is not as good if it;s not 1080p is an idiot in my opinion and has not played games such as pixeljunk monsters , metal gear solid , any minis or ps1 classics game or almost all ps3 games ( yes , some support 1080p but most play in 720p native resolution and only have 1080p cut scenes or menus )

Yeah terrible idea. what @2 said PLUS not every one has HD and HD only games (games made specially for HD only like MoH Warfighter for one, The text is too small to even read it. and that game is only 720p. So it would not be a good idea for them to have every game on HD only.

Absolutely horrible idea. I don’t have an HDTV, and this would ruin my ps+ membership. Keep it the way it is.

I think you people who are opposed to this idea are misunderstanding the point and don’t realize something.It would be nice to be able to play PSN games in 1080p for those who have TV’s that are capable of that resolution.Just because a game can run in 1080p doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be capable of running in a lower resolution if your TV didn’t support 1080p.You can run 1080p capable games in a lower resolution.HDTV’s have been available for the last 15 years.If you don’t have one you need to sell your current old school TV and get a new one.Playing a PS3 on a non-HDTV is like driving a Formula 1 car in a crowded parking lot.It doesn’t make any sense.

That would cause certain games framrates to drop and 720p is good enough
