DualShock 4 compatibility for PS Vita Remote Play

Idea 73283 | Posted in , by | May 20, 2014

Please make the next PS Vita update sync with DualShock 4 so I can use it on the road rather than when I am home. You would make a big impact doing this on sales

Even standard vita games (not only remote play) should be playable with dualshock 3 & 4 controllers.

Please do this! It’s annoying when someone is using the TV and I have to use the Vita controls for Battlefield. This would make those situations so much better! Maybe have a PS or third party branded accessory to mount the vita to the controller?

The problem is that this will increase latency causing input lag to increase. The amount of time it takes for input to go over bluetooth directly to the system is minuscule, but add in time back to the PS4 on top of it and suddenly you have a significant gap of time between when you press the button and the earliest the system can recognize you pressed the button.

It may not be technically feasible due to playability concerns.

There is already a way to use the DS4 while playing a game during remote play. But its not simple to utilize. 1: You have to have a sub-account. 2: Log into the sub-account(not the main account) for example log into your kids account. 3: Choose a game that is Remote-Play compatible and start it(if you can’t figure out a way to access your save files while logged into sub-account you may have to start the game over from scratch) 4: Once the game is loaded start remote play on the Vita once its connected youll have to turn the DS4 back on and VOILA PRESTO ABRACADABRA!!! The last time I used this it worked but I haven’t tried it for a while so who knows maybe they fixed this. But I totally agree with you guys they should make this a feature of remote play!

madjako  |  May 22nd, 2014 at 3:56 am

By adding this feature Sony will be able to communicate about Vita as a portable PS4.

rougegoat – your entire post couldn’t be further from the truth. The reason you have so much input lag is because the PS Vita has to send the control input and the video over Wifi and then receive video back. The game is still being played on the PS4 and using a PS4 controller functions the exact same way as if you are not playing through Remote Play. I know this because the idea this submission is trying to push through is already possible to do as avenged1389 pointed and I have done it before. I would like to mention to avenged1389 that this isn’t a bug. The functionality is obviously intended although I’m not convinced Sony realized it could be used this way.

CPK-Liquid  |  May 22nd, 2014 at 8:53 am

Scratch my last comment. Obviously avenged1389 and I misunderstood this submission. In any case, I’d rather have Sony work on other ideas first.

Please enable Dualshock 4 to be paired with the Vita. This doesn’t even have to be remote play, just an option to generally use Dualshock 4 with the Vita. Remote play would be a transitive benefit to this function being enabled.

kelvin_kw  |  June 16th, 2014 at 4:15 am

Please able this function, with Playstation now coming and more PS4 cross PS vita game coming, this option to pair up the controller through Bluetooth would help improve the experience a lot.

Professor-Nasty  |  June 22nd, 2014 at 8:08 pm

Please do this for those of us who want to make the most of PS4/Vita remote play without the need to use 2 accounts to do it.

inmusicutrust  |  June 30th, 2014 at 2:32 pm

Even just allowing the vita switch between two accounts and blocking the screen dimming would suffice. I got a vita for remote play but find it difficult to use the back touch controls for L2 R2.

unixjanitor  |  June 30th, 2014 at 3:52 pm

+1 for Vita Dualshock 4 support

ltone  |  July 1st, 2014 at 8:58 am

PLEASE make this a reality!

MaximusPrime497  |  July 1st, 2014 at 9:37 pm

The dualshock 4 should be able to connect directly to the playstation vita for vita games and remote play. What dosn’t make sense is that the vita tv already has this feature with the dualshock 4 and the dualshock 3 and can have multiple controllers connected at ounce! Why can’t the vita have this? The playstation go had it! There should also be a bracket allowing the vita to sit comfortably on the dualshock controllers this would be usefull when using the second screen function also. Accessories can’t properly replicate a comfortable controller experience

LondonWater  |  July 14th, 2014 at 3:59 am

I would be happy with just having control over the size and space that the rear touch buttons take up. Then I at least could place all four of them in spots where my resting fingers would not hit, and could access quickly. I like the dual shock more of course, but my vita is not resting on top of my ds4. I also like the idea of tinkering with my vita to create a custom “usable” controller for my ps4, although I’ll have another ds4 soon enough.. I hope sony implements either or both. It all sounds like remote play bliss.

Patjoew  |  July 15th, 2014 at 1:52 pm

They are so promoting the vita as remote play but its broken without this function!

Patjoew  |  July 15th, 2014 at 1:53 pm

we also need an official clipper holder to hold the vita and ds4 together (not the homemade crap :P)

stirKrazy11  |  July 21st, 2014 at 1:24 pm

YES! Sony please add DS3 and/or DS4 capabilities to the PS VITA! I know we will be able to use them with Playstation TV along with our Vita games but everyone who doesn’t get Playstation TV will be left in the dark. I wouldn’t think it would be too hard to add DS3 and DS4 capability to the Vita games since the Playstation TV has it.
Please at least seriously consider this. Thank You!

First of all just make it possible to mirror the screen, no need for VITA controls. Call it something completely different from “Remote Play” or “Second Screen”.

Secondly, make it possible for this functionality to be used with the SONY tablets for a start, then expand it as a paid ipad+Android app. 720p streaming is more than enough.

Thirdly, sit back and relax while you make money on a feature that you have already done the hard work on, but haven’t put to good use.

duellsy91  |  August 2nd, 2014 at 9:25 pm

^^ this.

Had the exact same thoughts as lamanuwa in terms of mirroring as a 3rd option when connecting to PS4. The tech is already there, since remote play is mirroring the screen already.

I loved the idea of being able to use ipad as the mirroring device via the playstation app, that would be incredible!

Sony, allowing users to synch their DS4 to their PS Vita’s for gameplay would be a brilliant idea that seems to make perfect sense. This would add more excitement to the idea of Remote Play. In addition, it would greatly assist in promoting Playstation NOW for the PS Vita when the service arrives on the device. The ability to play PS Vita games with the DS4 controller is a win and could be a great way to leverage more PS Vita sales alongside the high demand of the PS4. I can see it now, a PS Vita commercial showing the platforms exciting games introducing the new option of playing all those games with the PS4 controller. Sony you’re back in the driver seat now with the excitement of the continued success of the impressive PS4, so continue to give gamers what they want and this is one update gamers will love you for…..among others of course :-)

holdurhits  |  August 5th, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Lack of R2 L2 is killing me on the vita, the joysticks are far too ineffective with size and joyful play. Ladies will agree, they know what im talking about. To be completely honest if I had known that there is no compatibility between the ps4 controller and the vita remote play I most definitely would never have picked up the vita. If there is no future for compatibility I probably wont keep the vita. Its of no use for anything that is not Little Big Planet or titles of similar childish control structure. If they can make compatibility I will probably end up buying a set of 5 PS4 controllers so I always have on with the vita os. Just my opinion.

Emerald_Swords  |  August 6th, 2014 at 9:13 pm

Wow, this would really benefit the Vita in so many aspects.

WitWolfy  |  August 12th, 2014 at 2:19 am

Why hasnt this been implemented yet???? Doesnt Sony see the potential in sales this could bring?

TheDonster  |  September 4th, 2014 at 8:46 pm

Yo Sony, If I can use my duel shock on a PS4 with a sub account and view it over the Vita, It should be relatively easy to make it so the Vita is simply a screen viewer and the Duel shock can log into the main account and I can play PS4 games on my main account with remote viewing on the Vita. It would add SO much value to the Vita. Much confusion as to why this simple feature hasn’t been implemented.

curls4thegurlz  |  September 11th, 2014 at 12:45 am

Sony please add this feature! I know a lot of people will do what I did and purchase a ps vita with their main intention on playing Destiny. Also, would be nice to have this feature be very easy and accessible to set up.

jose213jose  |  September 17th, 2014 at 12:15 pm

I’m 100% agree on this, i would use my DS3 and DS4 with the PS Vita anytime.

awsm22  |  September 17th, 2014 at 3:04 pm

SCEA, please add this feature.

Vita remote play with the DS4 would be a game changer for those who currently have the system and would also be a significant selling point for future potential buyers.

Irish_Mann  |  September 21st, 2014 at 7:41 pm

It does seem off that the vita tv is capable but the vita is not. Would really like this feature.

acorja  |  September 26th, 2014 at 5:18 pm

Up for this feature. Some games give me a hard time while playing with PSvita controller.
