Auto-Syncing Trophies

Idea 189 | Posted in , by | March 17, 2010

When you acquire a Trophy in-game, the trophy should sync to the network without the user having to go to their profile or to the trophy section and choosing ‘Sync’.

LANfill  |  March 17th, 2010 at 1:30 pm

YES PLEASE! I lost some trophies with the March 1st, 2010 glitch. This was only because I did not sync before the glitch happened…

Neobara  |  March 17th, 2010 at 1:37 pm

1000 times this. It shouldn’t have to be done manually and it shouldn’t be that difficult to have trophies auto-sync in the background.

Usagi7  |  March 17th, 2010 at 1:38 pm

Seriously. Too often I’ll try to check my trophy list online away from the house and lament because I forgot to sync at home. There’s no good reason for this not to automatically sync everytime you’re logged into PSN.

Lelo4Ever  |  March 17th, 2010 at 1:40 pm

i believe the best course of action would be an option to auto-sync trophies when you turn the PS3 off…

That way there will be almost no impact on the servers…

The Auto-sync after every trophy won is unreliable due to the stress that will cause on the servers…

Bowdz  |  March 17th, 2010 at 1:41 pm

This is one of the best ideas in a long time IMO. I have been wanting to see autosyncing ever since trophies launched.

Andrefpvs  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:19 pm

This HAS to be done at some point.

Also, have a notification for when you LEVEL UP!

Anihl8r  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:33 pm

I agree. At some point, this has to be added, to make the PSN and it’s user experience more fluid, more natural. Not only is having to manually sync them yourself annoying, it also can take up to several hours to sync with the site.

glaydersenus  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:46 pm

Great ideia. It could be while we are turning off the system.

kurisub  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:46 pm

I think having an option to have this or not could be good. The only problem I can see with this, as we saw during the ApocolyPS3, is that if you don’t have a net connection, or the servers are borked, you might not be able to play even offline games.

I think at least it should auto sync once you quit the game and return to the XMB

TheOneBlackMage  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:49 pm

I think this would be a great idea – when you turn the PS3 off to go to standby, it can synchronize the trophies before shutting down.

Enforcer_X  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:49 pm

While not a deal breaker for me I don’t see why this can’t be included with one of the firmware updates this year. Many internet connected devices have auto syncing like the Motorola Droid.

Cesarcsrf  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:51 pm

Auto-syncing if done it should be optional.. due to facebook spamming..

Callahan09  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:52 pm

DEFINITELY. Essential. This is the first thing Sony should do.

somethingatt  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:58 pm

Also auto-sync should equal automatically updating profile card instead of having to login to PS site and pressing REFRESH.

Detsuki-G  |  March 17th, 2010 at 2:58 pm

This isn’t a huge feature but it would clearly be a very useful one. Syncing trophies manual is very annoying for those that really enjoy collecting them such as myself. Having them sync in the background as soon as we get them would be excellent and a very appreciated feature.

Rye0077r  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:16 pm

I think this is a good idea, but I’ve just gotten into the habit of syncing every time I quit a game. It’s only 2 clicks up on the XMB from the disc… That way, if something happens either on the server side, or on my end, everything is synced in a timely manner.

pjakinnear  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:25 pm

This is an important feature. At minimum, don’t block the manual sync from XMB, because the only way to manually sync in-game is to Compare Trophies with a friend. Very annoying and risks crashing the system…

JackDusty  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:27 pm

I agree that this should be an option. I have my trophy status sync to facebook and if I’m having a ‘sick’ day to play a new game, I’d rather my boss not see me getting trophies all day long 🙂

WestSiide  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:35 pm

not trying to be sarcastic or anything, but can someone explain to me the high importance about trophies? because personally, they don’t add or help me enjoy a game anymore/less because of them. maybe of someone can help explain it to me I can start liking them to… ?

doctoroflawls  |  March 17th, 2010 at 3:49 pm

WestSiide, as I mentioned on another suggestion, the point of trophies is more about a player tracking his own progress and having challenging things to do in-game to get them, rather than just seeing trophies as a way to compete with other players.

When implemented properly, trophies add longevity to a game and new, interesting ways to play them.

BlindMango  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:12 pm

this is something that I’ve been waiting to be added for quite some time.

guyverunit122  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:32 pm

well the this is a must, a better experience!!

VintageElise  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Would be nice but I don’t really think it’s THAT important.

WoWix100  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:54 pm

why would (currently) 200 people have voted down on this? why wouldn’t someone want this?

freeluv  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:54 pm

I agree it should be optional for those of us that have our trophies synced with facebook

zzpan  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:58 pm

Yes, we need this facility to stop our sneaky friends hoarding trophies offline and then sending them up to the server to disgrace us publicly!

Lets beat the cowards openly.

Onimenoviper  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:11 pm

i vote no, problably ill be a system or net requirements, make the ps3 slower, or lag on server or whatever, one more thing to start to think in problems

KilledInSilence  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:16 pm

@Andrefpvs Agreed! 100%! level up notifications! =D

Rye0077r  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:23 pm

@pjakinnear “At minimum, don’t block the manual sync from XMB, because the only way to manually sync in-game is to Compare Trophies with a friend.

You just click on the Trophies icon under Game in the XMB, and the system will do a sync if any new trophies are found. You can also do it by clicking on your own trophy card in the friends list.

karmatron03  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:25 pm

Yahoo!!! Now my 35 trophies will be displayed for everyone to make fun !!

MakaiOokami  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:38 pm

I’m not voting because I’m torn.

On the one hand it’d be nice for trophies to auto-sync so that I can view someone’s progress if we both got a game at the same time to see who is further.

On the other hand my facebook account would be being updated every time I get a trophy which can mean 10 posts with the trophies I unlocked, versus a post with all 10 trophies. As well as other things like hiding how far into a game you are from someone for fun.

So if they did impliment that it’d be nice to have it opt in in your settings.

killer_beast_56  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:47 pm

I agree with most people here. This feature would be extremely convenient!

Rofldood  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:55 pm

Although this is a small feature, it sure would be nice not to have to sinc my trophies every time I wanted to have them updated. Not sure how this would effect that recent Face book thing though, im sure a work around could be found.

KosmoCrisis  |  March 17th, 2010 at 6:30 pm

Facebook would be pummeled if you are a Trophy collector/hunter.

Senjutsu_Dav  |  March 17th, 2010 at 6:45 pm

I’m 100% behind this!!

It’s really annoying to wait for a sync all the time you want to access your trophies or compare with friends… this should be seamless.

BookWyrm2008  |  March 17th, 2010 at 7:07 pm

Stress on the servers? XBL handles it just fine, AND manages to update the cards in my profiles.

Trophies aren’t that common. Sending a trophy ID and game ID would fit in a single TCP packet.

gangsterdon2  |  March 17th, 2010 at 7:39 pm

Sony… we have to beg for this?

g-u-1-d-0  |  March 17th, 2010 at 7:40 pm

Why is it that we can download massive files in the background but we can’t sync trophy info in the background? I just want to know why this is so technically difficult that it wasn’t implemented on day one. We’re surely just talking about a few 1’s and 0’s after all?? Game112;Trophy14=true!?

phinnv8  |  March 17th, 2010 at 7:58 pm

I don’t get why people vote down such fundamental features that PS3 should have had since trophies were put in the system software.

CMB08TX  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:00 pm

What Are You All To LAZY to Press X To SYNC Trophies ? How is this a top 3 This ISNT EVEN IMPORTANT Compared to all the other stuff here The Reason It Takes So long is because ur connections probably slow or PSN Is in maintenance which happens offen And its not like if your trophies cant update your going to die Just Chill

Cartman86  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:05 pm

This is a problem that causes the community to really suffer. If your trophies aren’t accurate it sort of ruins the point. You can also screw up your trophies by playing a save on another system.

Balargon  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:15 pm

MUST BE OPTIONAL and activation must be under gamer decision.

Rhino136  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:26 pm

Would be cool, but right now it is only a minor inconvenience to go and sync it myself. I agree with the guy that said it should be optional, cuz I don’t want it slowing down my game time just to auto sync trophies.

Lil_Mermaid_Girl  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:39 pm

I don’t think its necessary really.

Hawt  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:41 pm

Why is this not a standard feature? I too lost trophies when my 60gb PS3 screwed up due to the leap year fiasco.

Hasn’t Xbox Live done this since the beginning?

TKO236  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:45 pm

This is actually one of the most annoying things about the trophy system tht u have to manually sync it everytime, which if u forget to sync before and somethings ***** up u lose everything 🙁

fifthcore  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:52 pm

It’s the year 2010, figure it out Sony.
