Create your own folders!

Idea 1383 | Posted in , by | March 17, 2010

I would like to be able to create and name folders on the PS3!

So I can for example put movies in one folder and tv shows in another!

Pages: 1 2

trev456  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:33 pm

Yeah, you can already do this…

psychic_zebra  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:35 pm

It’s a bit cumbersome, but yes, this can already be done by using the “Album” feature.

sazonsombra69  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:35 pm

lol yeah u can already press triangle then click info then switch album name

JackDusty  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:36 pm

Yeah, you can do this but it’s a bit arse-about-face.

On the item, press Triangle > Information and in there set the ‘Album’ name. This will put that item into a folder with that name. Do the same for other items (using the same name) and they will go in there too

DocDucks  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:37 pm

yep, can already do this, but is hidden.

jakinov  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:38 pm

You CAN do this BUT it’s a pain in the ass because you gotta go to each INDIVIDUAL FILE and TYPE the CASE SENSITIVE album name.

Tribal9499  |  March 17th, 2010 at 4:45 pm

Yeah I do this to seperate demos from downloaded games from betas etc etc. It would be nice to be able to select multiple items and change the album name for a group at once, please and thank you.

The1stMJC  |  March 17th, 2010 at 5:34 pm

You can do this already one of the 1st things I discovered about my PS3. Been doing it for a couple years now.

Lil_Mermaid_Girl  |  March 17th, 2010 at 7:39 pm

It’d be nice to be able to sort games into Demos and Full games that you’ve bought

pencil420  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:05 pm

I would like to sort my 1TB usb external hdd. I have thousands of media files that I would a search option for.

MrBeatdown  |  March 17th, 2010 at 8:35 pm

The current setup is terrible. I want to be able to create an actual folder like I can on my computer. It would make things so much easier.

Skater_Ricky  |  March 17th, 2010 at 10:46 pm

This Feature just needs to be Way Easier to USE instead of going to the Album and then doing this to each GAME or VIDEO or PHOTO or MUSIC it should be an option to create a Folder and then select multiple things to add into that Album or Folder the the same one with ease.

Soxfan_96  |  March 17th, 2010 at 11:08 pm

I completely agree. It would give the ps3 just a bit more customization to the users.

GoTDirt  |  March 18th, 2010 at 3:09 am

The sorting could be improved. And if done by folder names, that should be saved.

TiberNull  |  March 18th, 2010 at 3:56 am

Sub-directories or sub albums would be great.

SpankyDuckButter  |  March 18th, 2010 at 4:44 am

you get a positive vote even though this is already possible. 1 have almost 4,000 photos on my ps3 that i had been reorganizing with the triangle button to rename the albums one by one. after about a thousand i copied them all to a computer, organizing them into folders there, then copied them back to the ps3 in there new and now organized folders.. there should be a better way using only the ps3. now to organize my music……….

OLNO100  |  March 18th, 2010 at 10:35 am

lol u can already do it. Get some skillz

kNoWlEdGe22  |  March 18th, 2010 at 11:10 am

it’s been an option for a LONG time now…

thunderbear  |  March 18th, 2010 at 2:11 pm

It’s there and it’s so easy to use like many others have already said. I don’t get all the positive votes. If you want it changed, write up an idea for that but don’t request a feature that already exists.

canadianstryker  |  March 18th, 2010 at 3:19 pm

You can already do this, press Triangle, goto album and put the name in. Then goto the XMB and press Square until it says Albums at the top.

Jonnya42092  |  March 18th, 2010 at 9:06 pm

I was just thinking about this, i have over 100 movies on my ps3 in a “movies” album but id like to create a folder within that for like scary movies, comedy, etc

Blackxino  |  March 18th, 2010 at 9:22 pm

you can do this, playlist and organising!

Feiwaltan  |  March 20th, 2010 at 2:47 am

yes, this is already done, but they should have auto album filled in for all the content that is available. Like if you download a demo it would already have “Demo” written in the album field, that just makes so much sense.

dessy  |  March 20th, 2010 at 6:34 pm

I already do this, but a less cumbersome method would be appreciated

GOLGO_sweden  |  March 21st, 2010 at 9:27 pm

The sorting could be improved

skpmd4186  |  March 21st, 2010 at 9:41 pm

I would love this!! or just be able to rearrange the games in your games column. It sucks that I can’t put the games I play the most at the top of the list. I know this doesn’t seem like much, but I bought alot of downloadable games…

liquidypoo  |  March 22nd, 2010 at 7:50 pm

I’ll upvote this if only to help Sony realize they should make their current folder system a little more user-friendly. Clearly, it’s not too easy to find or use.

Ryan_Pettit  |  March 25th, 2010 at 12:23 pm

You can already do this, but it’s a bit wonky. You have to set the display type to “Album” (with square, I believe), and then hit triangle and assign each game an album. It’s not very efficient, but I have all my games assigned different albums.

TRUEMAGGOT4life  |  April 11th, 2010 at 1:46 pm

Yep, its already in there man. It’s been there since I have owned one.

BalramRules  |  April 13th, 2010 at 10:47 am

i still gave it a thumbs up even though i no its there, coz its currently RUBBISH! We need to be able to picture our folders, and a LOAD more of capabilities.

Alec1988  |  May 11th, 2010 at 3:32 am

It can already be done, but the ability to have folders inside folders would be good so that if you have a massive media collection you can sort by… for example tv shows > Name of show > Season 2

Game-o-holic  |  May 13th, 2010 at 10:34 pm

…things won’t look so cluttered. The more people buy PSN games the less they like their scattered collection.

Game-o-holic  |  May 13th, 2010 at 10:35 pm

…yes folders within folders please.

morrislevy  |  May 18th, 2010 at 2:11 pm

You can already do this for most. You can create albums for your videos and games, naming by album by typing it in yourself. The only one you can’t easily fanagle easily are the music or picture folders. I have had great success with movies and naming by user-defined album, as well as grouping my games.

INT0-TH3-V01D  |  May 29th, 2010 at 12:32 am

You can already do that.
I have one folder labeled Futurama
another Simpsons

mrpaulryan  |  July 8th, 2010 at 9:29 pm

Yes, you can do this, but it’s crappy and tedious. We need subfolders so I can properly organize video content.

burnedearth  |  July 15th, 2010 at 8:53 am

We definitely need this feature. I feel stupid having to look under w for wedding videos and having to sort through so many other files. It’s also the same way with my music, games, and pictures.

XxNo0b_H8rxX  |  August 4th, 2010 at 9:14 am

you can already do this…. go to the game move, hit triangle, and change the album name…

TripG  |  August 11th, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Good lord people – yes, we all know you can do it already. The point is that it is a frustratingly difficulty process to do so – time consuming as well. And creating and organizing folders should not be difficult.

So +1 for the OP suggestion. It is a good one.

Now what would be cool is making folders password protected so that inappropriate content for children or whatever the case may be, can not be viewed by those who should not be viewing it.

Matazone  |  August 27th, 2010 at 8:12 am

I really need subfolders and a quick system of filing things. Currently I have several thousand songs on my HDD and no way of accessing them in any useful structure – the default sorting orders are terrible (and often play albums in reverse order for some annoying reason) and there’s no way I’m going through all of them individually.

DigitalWolf333  |  September 7th, 2010 at 6:43 pm

you can do it, but its not easy to do it on the system…

eRic0095  |  September 16th, 2010 at 2:54 am

The sorting doesn’t need to be improved, its fine the way it is…

FE_RR  |  September 27th, 2010 at 7:08 pm

…this option is abailable since i can remember, maybe you’re refering to the PSP??

plaztiksyke  |  February 1st, 2011 at 4:54 pm

I think applying custom ‘tags’ or ‘labels’ to content, and then showing “piles” based on those tags would be ideal. Then Sony could pre-populate a given download with specific tags.

MrWind  |  February 2nd, 2011 at 6:38 pm

Everyone is saying it’s possible to create folders in PS3 as if it was a simple thing to do, it takes an endless time! And what about the subfolders? You can not create subfolders! I’ve tried to copy a simple folder of pictures with subfolders and the result was a mess!!! Imagine 20 GB of pictures, is impossible to organize! The same for the rest of media content (60 GB of music).
I’ve changed the HDD for a 320GB and now I keep using the external one because it’s organized as I want!
The possibility to copy, create folders and subfolders shouldn’t be so hard or difficult to implement, and I’m sure with it the PS3 would be one of the best, if not the best, media centers available!
