Sub account promotion

Idea 4437 | Posted in , , , , by | March 18, 2010

I’d like to see sub accounts change to master accounts when the account holder comes of age.

My brother made a master account for himself once he turned 18 because his sub account didn’t change.

good simple idea. and maybe just have confirmation from the Master Account (at the time)

DigitalOps  |  March 18th, 2010 at 4:26 pm

Good idea, master account holder should be able to promote a sub account to master account, or at least give them master privileges, like Administrator status on a computer. This way sub account won’t have to make a new one and lose all their trophies and friends list!

nickjd331  |  March 18th, 2010 at 5:13 pm

I really want this for my sibling. This so desperately needs to exist and is so simple, but yet I feel more complex and time consuming features are more popular and prevent this from being added any time soon.

radione  |  March 18th, 2010 at 5:34 pm

Critical necessity for those that reach that point. Great idea.

Mot345  |  March 18th, 2010 at 7:38 pm

I really really want this! I’d hate to lose all my trophies just because I was stupid enough to tell the truth when I signed up

Juste119  |  March 18th, 2010 at 8:12 pm

I am currently locked out of home, facebook support and anything that costs money on the store because of this. It really doesn’t make sense that there is no way to change this. I contacted sony and they told me I would have to make a new account which would cause me to loose my trophies, locked game saves and my psn name which is my online alias for everything. Everyone please vote yes on this

EvilAaron  |  March 18th, 2010 at 8:31 pm

I agree, few kids here are approaching that point and we want them to be able to migrate to master accounts. Its not fair to lose stuff they have bought in PSN store and trophies to have a full featured master account as they become of age.

As the adult I made sure they did the right thing and we made them have sub accounts. At this point I wished I hadn’t…

Microshock  |  March 18th, 2010 at 9:03 pm

Sure. Why not? I think Xbox Live does this

WarMachineDD7  |  March 19th, 2010 at 1:04 am

I hate that my brother’s account is forever tied to mine unless he’s willing to lose all his trophies and friends. I’m not his father and he’s old enough to make his own purchases, why not let him?

BlackAvalon  |  March 19th, 2010 at 2:14 am

Please. I made a Sub account rather than lie about my age when I was 17, and I’m now 20. Because of my sub account status I’m not allowed to go into PS Home which frankly irks me.

KBG29  |  March 19th, 2010 at 2:24 am

Whoever came up with the idea that a sub account can not mature was a moron. My brother had over 800 trophies on his account when he turned 18, and he had to give them all up because he could not take control of the account. I look at this as a cheap way for Sony to boost their numbers.

BuddahsCat  |  March 19th, 2010 at 7:53 am

PLEASE! I am 31 and when we first got the PS3 we thought you could only have 1 master account (that’s how it usually is). So, I listed mine as a sub account and I cannot get into Home (there is a trophy for launching a game from Home which now I can never get) or post my trophies to FB. And I am NOT giving up my trophies.

please Sony do this!

AnthonyTonyMagic  |  March 19th, 2010 at 1:14 pm

I can’t believe that this hasn’t been done already!

What would happen if your kid goes to college or something, and dad stays at home? Would he still have to access through the master account?

PeetFeet  |  March 19th, 2010 at 1:37 pm

AnthonyTonyMagic. He could use his own account still but there will still be infuriating restrictions on his account even after reaching 18.

I also regret making a sub account for my daughter, to be able to ‘promote’ their account manually would be high on my list of things to do. Or at the very least be able to enable/disable ALL features of under 18 accounts by the master account holder.

guitarman3210  |  March 19th, 2010 at 9:24 pm

You should also add in instant promotions at request of the Master Account, in addition to timed ones.

RadioactiveMouse  |  March 20th, 2010 at 6:27 am

Currently the system punishes you for being honest about your age as when you reach 18 you have to make a new account to use features restricted on sub-accounts.

I would wager a lot of people have just lied about their age in order to side-step being stuck losing all trophies etc when wanting to use a master account.

lunik1  |  March 20th, 2010 at 7:06 am

This needs to happen, I really want to get a master account but I don’t want to lose all my trophies and friends.

So long as approval is given my the master account I don’t really see a problem with this.

Geta-Ve  |  March 20th, 2010 at 1:27 pm

I concur. Sub accounts get [DELETED]. I made one for my bro a long while ago when I first got the PS3, but now that he is of age, he misses out on a few PS3 features.

xcube  |  March 20th, 2010 at 5:57 pm

I agree. I thought my brother would be promoted to master account after he got old enough.

Darkbeing1229  |  March 21st, 2010 at 7:18 pm

i really hope they put this in i should have lied about my age from the start.abd now that im of age i cant turn into a master account.

TrudeauTheJust  |  March 22nd, 2010 at 1:16 pm

Completely agree with this. Sony, if you really have a 10-year plan for the PS3, that’s a lot of people coming of age during the lifespan of the console. Please implement some way for them to obtain Master Accounts.

KGBird  |  March 23rd, 2010 at 9:36 am

Agree with this one. I’m an adult but I mistakenly set my primary account up as a sub account. The biggest downside to this right now is that I can’t do Facebook updates.

Please allow us to convert sub accounts into master accounts.

davivman  |  March 24th, 2010 at 3:19 pm

Who is monitoring these ideas? This idea has definately already been posted. If 6 people are moderating to let through an average of about only 100 ideas a day, then how are doubles getting posted?

insomniac81  |  March 24th, 2010 at 4:44 pm

LOL its way less than 100 per day! maybe 50

Robbie_G_lrish  |  March 24th, 2010 at 7:01 pm

Yea, I’ve definitely seen my share of reposts already. Apparently they’re coming up with a system that allows us to flag a repost.

vega480  |  March 24th, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Holy cow this has to be the stupidest flaw in master/sub accounts ever. How hard is it to write some damn code to change the account type? The forums auto promote, every user level access I can think of has the ability to change the users access/type.

sega651  |  March 25th, 2010 at 8:15 pm

WHAT, IT DOESN’T CHANGE!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?

I though that it would automaticaly change, this has to be the dumbest oversight ever! I am going to be so ticked if I lose my user name and all of my trophies because I have to make another acount on my birthday in june. I’m thinking that now I should have just lied about my age when I got my PSN ID!

sega651  |  March 25th, 2010 at 9:20 pm

Thinking about it, if We could simply transfer EVERYTHING to a new acount it might be ok. this would have to include trophys, DLC (with only the same number of activations left of course), hopefully ID (or atleast alow us to change it back to what the subaccount was after we deleate if when done transfering everything), friend list, and eveything else not mentioned here.

But simply put, letting us ‘promote’ or ‘graduate’ our acounts when we reach 18+ would be easer and much nicer for everyone

harvey17  |  April 2nd, 2010 at 10:08 am

we need this now!!! its so annoying having to create another account just to buy things with. and now i can see that only master accounts get Facebook? or if we could just simply copy trophies and data into another account on the PS3 is would help. stupid Sony >:(

gcclinux  |  April 3rd, 2010 at 9:54 am

I have exactly the same problem problem and not only that what happens when you move house and away and he wants to have his own PS3. Come on Sony sub-account promotion is way over due and would help many of us as I search the internet and found that there are hundreds of PSN users asking for the same thing.

dsigns209  |  April 6th, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Very much agreed. I accidentally created my second account as a sub account and cannot change it to a master.

ThePunisher  |  April 7th, 2010 at 2:57 pm

Agreed…little Johnny does grow up and move out at some point; he should be able to take his account with him.

Rainbird01  |  April 11th, 2010 at 4:23 am

I really don’t understand why this hasn’t been dealth with already, it’s so stupid! I want my account to be a masteraccount now that I’ve turned 18, but instead I’m punished for telling the truth when I created account!

BalramRules  |  April 15th, 2010 at 11:25 am

yh, this is a SUPER SILLY flop made by the devz at Sony, HOW CAN THEY NOT HAVE DONE THIS?!?!? XO

Xr0sS_FiRe  |  April 19th, 2010 at 6:13 am

Seriously? Assuming “fb” stands for “facebook”, what’s preventing you from going there on ANY account besides a web browser password on your account? If anything, why not just make a master account? It’s free by the way…

Fablednemesis  |  April 20th, 2010 at 10:43 am

This needs to be done since i put my real age when I first got my PS3 and have since turned 18 I cant now add my debit card or have FB updated with trophies, whereas people who put their age as over 18 to start with as a convenience have no such problems. This needs to be sorted.

KrazyKrips  |  April 21st, 2010 at 2:54 am

This is a major problem with the PS accounts. When I first got my PS3 had to make a sub account and now that I turned 18 I can not change it into a master unless I start over and lose everything. This is something that SONY needs to fix right away.

EiraZea  |  April 21st, 2010 at 2:39 pm

I am a 34 yrs old woman that cannot link my account to Facebook because my “Adorable” husband made my account a sub account, and I refuse to lose my trophies and my PSN name…

jonabbey  |  April 21st, 2010 at 10:48 pm

I created my wife a sub account when I created her account back in 07, not realizing that it would put limitations on what she could do.

I’d love to be able to convert her account to a master account, without her losing all her trophies and her PSN id along the way.

Aku_San  |  April 23rd, 2010 at 5:33 pm

I actually have this problem. I don’t want to start every one of my games over again, just so I can have a master account.

SpandexMonkey  |  April 24th, 2010 at 1:13 am

yes. i love this idea and was going to suggest it myself. glad i found it. i had an old master account at the start but i wanted to change my name. since that wasnt an option i opened a sub account. luckily i barely had any trophies so getting them back want an issue however, if i want to purchase things on the psn i have to fund the master account and purchase in the sub account. even if i just want to check how much i have i need to go to the master account. very annoying. would love to see this come to fruition!

geoge791  |  April 26th, 2010 at 12:53 pm

don’t really have to comment when im pretty much in the same boat as everyone else on this subject

TonerPJM  |  May 2nd, 2010 at 1:41 am

To Be Perfectly Honest I Agree With This Idea… I Made My Account The Day Before My 18th Birthday, The PS3 Was My Birthday Present And I Couldn’t Wait The Extra Day To Play It, I Obviously Regret That Now… But This Issue Has Been Around Obviously Since The Start Of The PS3, And This Topic Has Been Up For A Month And There Is No Progress Made On It Yet On Behalf On Sony. I Highly Doubt Anything Will Get Done To Fix This For Us.

I Never Had A Problem With Having A Sub Account Before They Got The Facebook Feature… That Seems To Be The Biggest Issue People Have.

GameBreak68  |  May 7th, 2010 at 7:30 pm

I’d love to see this happen. I’m a sub-account and turned 18 and still have my sub account because quite frankly I have no need to make a master account just yet (family PS3).

I really don’t want to make a new account because I like my PSN as it is now and the things tied to it (trophies, friends, what I’ve downloaded, etc…)

Gabiroba-X  |  May 12th, 2010 at 3:33 pm

I did not know that! I thought it would change automatically, that is obvious, now I’ll have to create a new account in a few years. And I will not be able to move my information for the new account, as the trophies I won!
