PS Vita pdf/e-reader

Idea 53782 | Posted in by | February 23, 2012

Create an app that allows the PS Vita to become an e-reader. This would increase the value of the vita and negate the reason for many to own a tablet as well as a vita.

Permafry_42  |  February 23rd, 2012 at 11:14 pm

Great idea; then we can read our ebooks, comics, and Manga using our vita =D

AlacrityFitz  |  February 24th, 2012 at 7:01 am

Just port iBooks… Apple won’t mind and it is the cleanest of all the smartphone ereader apps. Amazon and Nook both port you over to their general (real books and digital) while iBooks only shows what you can get for the ereader…And iBook is going to start supporting school books so all those little urchins who hate carrying around 20 pounds in books for home won’t have an excuse anymore

Elvick_  |  February 25th, 2012 at 12:13 am

I think it’s a great idea.

kingfoot  |  February 26th, 2012 at 5:18 pm

This is perfect. iBooks port is unlikely lol but a nice, slick ebook reader with pdf support would really add a nice touch to this amazing device.

FORMIK  |  March 1st, 2012 at 5:39 pm

I’ve been saying this ever since the announcement of the system. No need to go with Nook, Amazon, or Apple, Sony has their own Reader device with its own capabilities. Just create a Reader app and let us download e-books from the PlayStation Store.
On a related note, bring back the Digital Comic Viewer, and add those to the PlayStation Store.

matthiasjk  |  March 5th, 2012 at 9:42 am

I think this is a great idea. A simple PDF reader would work fantastically on the screen. If it can’t be created as a standalone app it could be integrated into the browser perhaps. It would be another selling point for the system.

johnr283  |  March 7th, 2012 at 10:27 pm

It would be great to be able to check my PDF game guides on the vita.

trinidadhammer  |  March 11th, 2012 at 5:54 pm

tried adding my vote, but it didn’t let me

peop-les  |  March 16th, 2012 at 1:54 pm

I like the pdf idea but Sony wouldn’t make it an e reader beacause they want to sell there Sony Reader branded even-readers

Dorebet  |  March 20th, 2012 at 10:42 pm

that would be really awesome… i just tried my brand new vita and i was pretty disappointed that it wouldnt read pdf… considering all the other functions it has.

ra_hammerhead_us  |  March 21st, 2012 at 2:49 am

this would be so awesome! really hope sony release this app soon

tiago2394  |  March 31st, 2012 at 7:34 pm

it will realiy be GREAT i hope they release it in the next update

koma404  |  April 2nd, 2012 at 10:12 pm

un e-reader indispensable !!!!!! sony go

RSMDM  |  April 7th, 2012 at 8:00 pm

Definitely would use this.

Haigarax  |  April 9th, 2012 at 7:37 am

Customers who just want to read books will buy an e-reader. They won’t buy a Vita just because it ALSO supports e-books.

However, people unsure about buying a Vita might just take the leap because of the added functionality.

I for one am sick of carrying around one device in each pocket or bag just to be able to read, play and make calls or send texts.

ALCTRAZ99  |  May 24th, 2012 at 8:01 pm

it will really expand the vita’s scope beyond has such a gorgeous screen for e-books..include pdf support as well, and screen rotation option

vampire9545  |  June 13th, 2012 at 6:52 pm

this would be awesome! not only would it compete with e-readers, it would even allow it to be used in settings; most of my notes and such are pdfs!

neoprime33  |  June 22nd, 2012 at 12:35 pm

Love this idea and I hope Sony either implements their own eReader into the Vita or partners with B&N and/or Amazon to create an app for it.

IMO, Readers wouldn’t by the Vita for reading; however, Gamers would love having the ability to not only play games, watch movies and listen to music on their Vita, but, also read their favorite books, comics, Graphic Novels, Manga and etc too! I would!

trumpetmastar516  |  June 23rd, 2012 at 2:06 pm

Screen Size isn’t exactly ideal but I would love to be able to view a PDF.

“Port iBooks, Apple won’t mind”

no. dumbass….

anyway. Reading a PDF would be great on the vita as its one of the few systems that doesn’t support it. Then again. XBOX, (Doesn’t even have browser yet) DSi3dXL whatever (Hell no). But still the iPod has it and so far even though its smaller I would rather keep my iPod then a vita.

A new browser should be coming soon and personally I don’t think it should support flash. A youtube app is coming “by the end of the month” (quotation marks because I have a hunch it’s being delayed (but for all I know it could be out…)) Sorry back on track. Anyway I think a feature of the browser should be PDF support and you could download and view them in the browser not as a separate application. I would be open to keeping them offline in a tab for all I care. I just want to be able to read my PDF Walkthroughs. If you want to read a book, buy a nook and stop crying πŸ˜›

nears1215  |  July 2nd, 2012 at 8:45 am

That would be great!!! Each update vita is more a real multymedia device.

PDF is one of the basics that any user needs, I don’t have enough space in to my bag to carry my vita and a book, if I can have my books on my vita foe sure I will prefer to bring my vita with me than only my book.

RdgMenezes  |  August 9th, 2012 at 10:21 am

Great… +1

Can you please vote in my idea too? (Google Chrome for Vita or a better browser.)

Thank you. πŸ˜‰

ZHX1138  |  August 20th, 2012 at 1:35 am

I would love to read ePubs on my Vita and merely use the internet browser to get free books from various free places that support ePub format. This would replace my iPod Touch. I would love this!

AlastorBR  |  August 30th, 2012 at 4:40 pm

please sony, create some application which allows you to open text files, you have created a device for it and even encourage people to study, you just have to gain from it … grateful;)

etragik1  |  September 12th, 2012 at 6:34 pm

Since i gave away my psp when i purchased my vita, im really hopeing for the comics on my vita also. As i purchased quite a few and never got to finish one series, a reader app would be awsome as well. =P

Danielinsky  |  October 18th, 2012 at 9:09 pm

This would be really really AWESOME!

Bad_Cyborg  |  October 28th, 2012 at 9:24 am

Really makes you wonder who the 494 negative vote people are, doesn’t it? An app that increases the useability of the PS Vita by a great deal, and they vote it down. Really?

Koleopteros  |  November 7th, 2012 at 3:41 pm

I wonder why there are 490+ votes for down… I don’t see why its a bad idea to add pdf/e-reader support to the vita… Would be nice if they posted some sort of organized post that describes why its a bad idea…

I’d be using it a whole tonne more if I could use it to read papers and research material on the go rather than having to use a laptop all the time…

sure a dedicated e-reader device is a better idea, but that just adds more physical material to bring around. A gaming device that can be used as a productive tool outside of the realm of gaming would drive the sales up for the vita… a dedicated gaming device… its practically the reason why I stopped using my gameboys and PSP…

cbisar  |  November 23rd, 2012 at 8:40 pm

it would be awesome. I hope sony will make this app soon.

Desmeo  |  December 7th, 2012 at 5:36 am

Great idea. That app is truly missing on my PS vita. And not difficult to implement either.

Flecchisan  |  December 12th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

This would make it so I would only need to carry one device rather the E-reader and the Vita. As for porting in Apple products/services, hell no, I don’t want that religion on the PSN…

ano1batman  |  January 29th, 2013 at 2:30 am

I hope they do add this! It should be able to read Mobi and PDF because I have many books in both formats.

leon_de_wit78  |  April 14th, 2013 at 1:09 pm

Yes me to.
Please make a reader for the Vita.

OBMOC  |  April 30th, 2013 at 12:56 pm

I would read the new digital comics, Game Informer, etc.. All Digital this needs to happen. No need to own a Nook, or Kindle. I’ve got a Vita!!

timeismoney0  |  May 2nd, 2013 at 5:42 am

This would be a worthy addition to the PS Vita. An e-reader that allows you to read all ebook formats. Letting you highlight, make notes. look up definitions, bookmark, night mode like opposite contrast, sepia, off white, fully customize text colour and background. Allowing you to setup how ever you like for example blue paper yellow ink. Then we could read to our hearts content no more reading on my ipod 5g. Or having to convert .pdf over in a long process to a bunch of .jpeg files then a folder in the photo viewer on PS Vita. That takes for ever and is cumbersome and not simple for most. Please Sony. Try to get as many formats as possible Sony I know you can do it at least the most used and prevalent ones. Eh’

SONY! HEY, SONY! This please. A hundred times over this!

stargazer963  |  June 15th, 2013 at 3:02 pm

Useful feature, especially if we can copy walkthroughs onto the vita system in case we dont have wifi to search things up

Xanzar  |  August 12th, 2013 at 7:26 pm

Umm this feature is already available on the Japanese psn, all they really need to do is translate it

RedSwirl  |  November 13th, 2013 at 3:56 pm

It is insane Sony hasn’t done this since the company has its own library of eBooks. I think the Japanese version only reads comics but I could be wrong. On top of this there should also be Kindle app.

Aether-Bomb  |  March 13th, 2014 at 1:07 pm

Come on Sony!
ΒΏWhy is there no e-reading program?
Is it that hard to make?
Don’t get me wrong. I am a long time user of your many fine products over the countless years. And most likely will continue to be in the future, keep up the good work and tyvm. And I understand that the sony corporation is a very busy company. Working hard making all that moola thru all of these glad times. And maybe all of these bad or maybe even a little sad times.
But we pull through our monotonous lives through the huge world of cooperative entertainment. And it brings us closer to our families, and our friends. And also to each other as an entertainment partnership so to speak. Between the user and the creator.
So please make an fn e-reading capable program, of wtf ever design that you like. Make some moola off of it. and have a great day. can ya do that for me?
