Changing the Online ID (Screen Name).

Idea 62421 | Posted in by | September 4, 2012

When I was younger, I chose the name Adaman2go and as I grew older i wanted a change. I searched PSN and couldn’t find a way. So all my idea is, give an option to change the users online ID.

bigjosh50  |  September 4th, 2012 at 5:16 pm

I would like to capitalize all the letters in my bigjosh50 psn account, good idea 😉

Stastic  |  September 12th, 2012 at 8:39 pm

I also have an ID I chose many years ago as a kid and I feel it does not properly represent me now. Even if we were only allowed one name change per year or every few years. ANYTHING. I would be very happy.

jack21_98  |  September 16th, 2012 at 5:29 am

Yeah…If this comment gets the most positive votes,Playstation company will read this and probably add an update in PSN to let you change your PSN ID name without creating an new account while losing all your friends, trophies, etc. Cause I mean, look at my profile name:It’s stupid!I created when I was kid and now I have cool names I could add to my psn profile name, lol.Just cross your fingers and hope Playstation company reads this comment and add an arragement to our problem…

iAreOtaku  |  September 18th, 2012 at 4:53 am

Please sony make this an option i would really like to be able to change my id.

finaler  |  September 21st, 2012 at 1:13 am

Yes, I could also use an update. This name is old and outdated.

jordan-453_  |  September 24th, 2012 at 8:08 pm

This needs to be done. I’ve thought about my new ID because my current one is kind of bland

Jadecougar  |  October 13th, 2012 at 6:53 pm

This feature, even at a premium is long overdue. there are so many old threads for years on the internet on this stating that you cannot change your psn id, and that in Japan they can change there screen name but not there PSN ID(the name others see you as on the psn in games ect),not many find this particular vote for this feature thread.

Playstation + only(as long as the change is permanent if you stop your ps+ subcription), everyone for $49.95 what ever

get it done please, sony is losing money and they don’t want to turn on the money income for this premium feature? not smart.

GoD_Fearz_Me  |  October 15th, 2012 at 1:08 am

Cmon sony ive send you messages & even shared this idea with you and thousands of other ppl and you still wont do this?? Wth!!

LprOdigyR  |  October 20th, 2012 at 12:39 pm

At this point I’d be willing to pay to change my ID as long as price isn’t ridiculous, because I have had this name for years and I’m done with it.

Sirius56  |  November 4th, 2012 at 8:19 am

Same as LprOdigyR; I don’t care if they add an option for this and charge for it; I’m tired of my PSNID…I don’t know what I was thinking…

IxDARKxKNIGHTxI  |  November 20th, 2012 at 12:21 am

We should able to change our name it won’t effect the trophies if ppl from Xbox are Able to change theirs and keep the achievements they earned this will be a good option for us if Japan has it

Super-Combo-  |  December 18th, 2012 at 7:01 pm

Yes please allow us to change PSN screenames. I had to create this account because on my other account I was getting harrassed because my name is not English. There’s no way Sony could stop the rampant racism and homophobia but at the VERY least they could allow us this name change to keep the harrassment down.

And although I made this account, I still have to use the other one as I have made thousands of dollars of purchases on it and I WILL NOT split my purchases between the 2 accounts.
Just charge for this feature or make it a PS Plus feature. I don’t have PS plus yet but I would buy it for this option alone.

ScarEra  |  December 29th, 2012 at 11:45 am

What, this feature is enabled for Japanese users only?

Make it possible please! even if only for Plus members or once a year .. ANYTHING.

Anglachel77  |  January 20th, 2013 at 7:15 pm

Yep. Don’t know why Sony just implement this. Even if it cost us a little bit of cash, I’d do it.

RegulusReginald  |  January 27th, 2013 at 7:04 am

Idk why this doesn’t have 1000’s of thumbs up.

RegulusReginald  |  January 27th, 2013 at 7:12 am

If there is a way you could update the OP, put better reasons for a change:

– Grown tired of the name
– Made a mistake on it

Right now the only way to change your name is start a brand new account. This means you’ll

– Lose your entire friends list
– Lose all game data (trophies, save files, online emblems & titles … FREAKING CALL OF DUTY!!!, etc.)

We neeeeeeeed this.

RegulusReginald  |  January 27th, 2013 at 7:13 am

PLUS, it’s a freaking hassle having to go through the registration process just so you can change your name.

Sony, we know you want money. Please, make it happen.

Magik_1408  |  February 8th, 2013 at 11:42 am

Great Idea becuase I was contacting PS support and they told me they can’t change it and I would love to change my ID without loosing my trophies and friends.

c1w9d69  |  March 2nd, 2013 at 10:16 pm

yeah…my dad made this one and i cant make my own id on my vita or else i lose my all-stars battle royale game :/

MarkakaJin  |  March 4th, 2013 at 10:55 pm

If you can change your gamertag like they can, then surely we can do it on the PSN to change our PSN ID. I would gladly pay 10-15 bucks to change my PSN ID.

Xhearts_hunterX  |  March 11th, 2013 at 4:20 am

Share the URL guys for VOTES if you really want it to happen specially when the PS4 is coming knocking

Xhearts_hunterX  |  March 11th, 2013 at 4:21 am

Microsoft did it why not Sony????

M1L-ZH1NG0N  |  April 2nd, 2013 at 10:15 am

Look at my name!!! I wrote that when I mostly spoke Spanish, now I speak English and that id doesn’t make sense to me or my friends and you guys would make tons of money if you charge us a reasonable amount. Or only to PS+ members. You guys have to do it, been too long without this feature

MAX0nlineBeast  |  April 4th, 2013 at 1:59 pm

i totally agree… i want to change my name too… i hate the name that i have now
please Sonny do something 🙁

Kolio45  |  May 10th, 2013 at 10:57 am

I have the same problem, I created this account when the ps3 came out and as I grew older, I decided this name is stale. I would make a new PSN account, but I am not throwing away my platinums.

shinryuux  |  May 12th, 2013 at 1:32 pm

I would pay $10 to change my name.

vicmarcio  |  May 12th, 2013 at 10:16 pm

I would pay $10 to change my name too…

MrDrRock  |  May 26th, 2013 at 8:45 pm

I am very much like the guy who posted this thread. I started with the network almost 7 years ago. I was 13 when I started, being twenty now, my tastes have changed, and so have the preferred ID I go by in games. I need Sony to be able to grow and adapt, like I have. I’d really appreciate this fix. And like many others before me, I don’t care if there’s a fee, I’d pay it just to keep all my history and trophies, and play from my past. I’d really appreciate that the sony team reviews this thread, and takes into consideration what the game community needs are.

Nanobreaker  |  June 14th, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Come on Sony. Blizzard allows at least one name change for their games and then expects users to pay $10 dollars for future name changes. Xbox charges 800 ms points ($10) to change their gamertags. I don’t see why Sony can’t make changes to their policy with online ID changes. The players are requesting for it and so am I. Please make it possible to change our online IDs.

GOW71  |  June 20th, 2013 at 8:20 am

I would love the option to be able to change my gamer tag.

EmperorGanishka  |  July 3rd, 2013 at 10:26 am

Don’t have a problem with my name but it would be a good option to have.

ZombaXIII  |  July 3rd, 2013 at 10:46 am

I’d love to be able to do this. My old account was hacked and people made purchases for games and DLC for games I don’t own and Sony wouldn’t refund me even though I only accessed PSN from 1 PS3 (which I could provide serial number etc for)yet my account was used on multiple PS3s I didn’t authorise. I had to file a chargeback with my bank to get my £100+ back and after 2 or so weeks my PSN account was banned so I needed to create a new one. I would very much like to change my name back to what my old account was as it’s no longer in use. On the 360 (and soon to be Xbox One) I’m able to do this and I think this is an option on the JP PSN (or so I heard).

volpanic  |  July 3rd, 2013 at 5:08 pm

This would be a good start and it seems archaic not to have the option to do this. Alternative would be to have a separate display name that can be edited freely, like Japanese accounts have. Would also love to be able to change the region an account is tied to – after moving it seems like your only option is to start a new account to use your local PSN store. Guess that’s a separate issue though.

GAM3R_16  |  July 3rd, 2013 at 11:42 pm

Yes please! I don’t want to be known by a username I came up with 7 years ago. :/

xKidfr35Hx  |  July 8th, 2013 at 12:09 pm

Please sony, I made this when I was about 12. I need to change it, I cant just make a new one I have too many good friends and 1,400 plus trophies on this one

MarkakaJin  |  July 15th, 2013 at 5:43 am

I posted about this idea, it’s on #22. I think I can speak behalf for everyone here, that we’re still waiting for an answer from Sony Playstation about the ability to change our PSN ID. I am willing to pay $10 to change my PSN ID. There was a similar idea of this but for PS+ subscribers who are on a year plan. I sound desperate about this and I really am. Please, let us have the opportunity to change our PSN ID!

RemiaPhoenix  |  July 17th, 2013 at 10:18 am

I would also love to be able to change my Online ID if I wanted to. I heard Japanese accounts has the ability to change their Online ID, so I don’t see why we can’t have that feature too. I would even pay real money if it was necessary, and I’m sure most people would too.

Yes I could make a new PS Network account, but then I lose all my trophies (no one wants to lose their hard-earned trophies) and purchases (mostly an issue for the PS Vita).

I hope it will be considered and implemented, as most people agree to the suggestion so far.

Deicides  |  July 27th, 2013 at 7:14 am

I chose my name before I understood the full functionality of PSN and by the time I realized it was too late to change it because I had so many purchases on my account.

kb4983  |  July 30th, 2013 at 12:48 pm

I too would be willing to pay $10 to be able to change my PSN ID!! Please enable this ability Sony!!

didunoelgaming  |  July 31st, 2013 at 4:03 pm

I’d be willing to pay money to change my name. I’m sure others are too (by these posts)

HP_Guru  |  August 11th, 2013 at 6:08 pm

I think this is a great idea I no longer like my online ID and would also like to change and I am willing to pay.

I think they should make it an option with or with out a fee just and limit it to a change once every 6 or 12 months not that I will change it that often but just to stop trolls with lots of money making names every other week that are offensive.

khevin1308  |  September 1st, 2013 at 6:15 pm

Totally agree. They must put a system that allows to change it in one of these ways: giving only one chance to change it per account, or giving the chance, by a price. I’m willing to pay for a chance to change my ID.

khevin1308  |  September 1st, 2013 at 6:25 pm

Come on Sony, if you want to win the war against Microsoft, you have to create this system, because I heard that they already have. I’ve seen on Internet that in Xbox you can change the Online ID paying 800 Microsoft Points, so if you create this you’ll be one step closer to defeat Microsoft.

Crying_Crucifix  |  September 25th, 2013 at 8:44 pm

I’m personally fine with my name, but I’ve had names elsewhere I wanted to change.
Oh god, and they didn’t let me change it.
