Ability to appear offline

Idea 73515 | Posted in , , by | May 21, 2014

This feature is extremely important to players attempting to live stream and not have other players able to join them, also for competitive players on the ps4/ps3. Thanks 🙂

Update: This feature was added in System Software Update 3.50. Thanks for your patience.

This and Trophy deletion are the only 2 things I feel I really need, and then my PS4 is perfect. Everything else is just a bonus.

SLEEPLESS_KNIGHT  |  June 24th, 2014 at 6:21 pm

YES!!! Why is this not higher up the list in voting?! Xbox 360 had this in like 2006! Come on Sony!

Punkie  |  July 14th, 2014 at 12:10 pm

THIS IS A MUST. Ridiculous that the PS4 does not have this.

    GODsAssassin767  |  December 9th, 2015 at 4:12 am

That’s why Microsoft is 10x way better then Sony will ever be. Only reason I have ape3 and now the ps4 it just for ps exclusives. If it’s for both systems I get it for my Xbox one. Thing like u can’t appear offline is just sad some time small things make a big difference in what makes a system better then the rest. Microsoft will always be ahead. Like right now I want to play a game on my ps4 but I can’t because my neighbor is on one I just want to do my own thing, and if I get on and he sends me an invite and I don’t respond he’ll come over and be like so your ignoring me don’t want to play with me. NO I DON’T I just want to relax and do my own thing. So I end up getting in my Xbox one, and appear offline there and relax. So if Sony doesn’t fix this game companies could be making more money because more people will be on more spending money and time in there games.

Bad thing about this is you cant even live stream on the vita

dysfuntional1  |  September 12th, 2014 at 11:43 am

Requesting what should be a standard feature is ridiculous..

hdcase  |  September 13th, 2014 at 12:22 am

I agree with this 100%. There are some times I don’t want to talk or play with friends, and just do my own thing instead. Thanks.

ihavenoavatar  |  September 20th, 2014 at 11:43 am

PLS, SONY ADD THIS!! I don’t hate my friends, it just that, sometimes I don’t want to talk or play with them.

TruStrike  |  September 22nd, 2014 at 3:48 pm

If there’s a patent for this “feature” please let us know because otherwise i don’t know why this is not available. The only other rational reason i would think is that Sony want friends to see their friends playing games they don’t own so they might buy it. To make the community seem more active. Sometimes you just want to do things without being disturbed.

ComfortabIyNumb  |  September 22nd, 2014 at 10:30 pm

I find it incredibly annoying that this isn’t a feature yet. A lot of times, especially when a game is new, I don’t like to be pestered by my friends with invites when all I want to do is play by myself. I’m often times avoiding playing a game altogether when I see certain friends are online because I know I will be put in a position to either be rude and ignore their invite, make up some excuse as to why I can’t play with them, or be social when I have no desire to do so. Most of these people are coworkers or friends who I truly like and enjoy playing with, I just don’t want to feel an obligation to play with them when I don’t want to. It’s not as simple as “just staying offline” when games like Destiny require you to be connected and I also enjoy playing MP solo. Just last week I deleted over 50 friends because as a girl I’m especially pestered to join parties and it just got to a point of not being worth it to have those people as friends anymore. Please add this feature so I don’t have to strategize when it’s safe to go online and play in peace.

BenShroomin  |  September 24th, 2014 at 8:34 pm

PLEASE make this happen. I love my friends, but sometimes just wanna play alone without hurting any bodies feelings or having to explain myself over an over. I just don’t understand how this isn’t already an option.

HOOD331  |  September 25th, 2014 at 2:08 pm

Would really like to see this. Seems like a no-brainer.

SweetnSourKandy  |  September 28th, 2014 at 8:49 am

I really need this too. I do not always enjoy playing with people. I want to enjoy my gaming session without having to stress out about the messages I am ignoring, when the sender knows I am getting giant notifications in my face about their messages.

vanlandw  |  September 28th, 2014 at 12:40 pm

Yes, please implement this feature. Xbox has had this forever.

RoDoor  |  September 30th, 2014 at 3:50 am

as a former xbox360 player I really miss this, there are times that I don’t want any of my friends to see that I’m online, even though i am playing online myself

jx1wright  |  October 4th, 2014 at 10:52 am

Please make this happen. It’s frustrating having to beg for something that should be a standard feature.

antonrebbe  |  October 4th, 2014 at 3:37 pm

Lots of common sense features can get pushed to the back of the line and then forgotten during the development cycle, so I’m not going to be cynical and assume that SONY is forcing a way of gaming onto it’s customers instead of giving us choices about our privacy; chances are appearing offline was just forgotten about and never revisited. SONY, this is your chance to go back and fix that. Most people won’t complain about this simply because most people don’t have the drive to do so in an online forum, but believe me when I tell you, everyone wants this feature, because everyone needs to be left alone once in a while. Thank you.

Christo1888  |  October 10th, 2014 at 3:06 am

Yes please Sony, badly lacking feature

Richy_Manic  |  October 19th, 2014 at 3:40 am

Absolutely – should be a standard feature for any online multiplayer system. There’s times where you just want a quick online blast without social awkwardness and it’s honestly forcing me to choose my Xbox One for these types of games so I get control of when I’m available rather than my PS4. XB1 had this ready from the outset and even holds the status when you log back in so you don’t need to keep switching it non and off. Why is the PS4 so backwards in this regard?

wsterry  |  October 27th, 2014 at 5:57 am

Woefully Disappointed that this feature is still not available

darkfury  |  November 1st, 2014 at 4:40 pm

Sometimes I just wanna play an online game alone without others seeing me online, and spamming me with invites for game or chat. If I don’t join them they then send me messages asking me if I’m mad at them or they get upset if I don’t hop in with them. Please let us “appear offline” regardless if we are online playing a game or not.

Also let us delete games that we have no trophies for.

darkfury  |  November 1st, 2014 at 4:44 pm

I apologize, I forgot to add something, also with an “appear offline” feature, it would also be nice to not see any notifications while streaming something, watching a blu-ray, or netflix, etc., without having to turn them off every single time.

BlueSummersGVV  |  November 8th, 2014 at 1:15 am

Just got the Vita for PS4 Remote Play and other Vita Games.

I want to play with the remote play feature without being invited by others to their game and/or party.

An offline, Away, or “Playing on the Vita” Notification would be nice.

milkylarsson  |  November 10th, 2014 at 2:41 pm

It amazes me that this feature is not already implemented. Some people just say that you should ignore the invite but its not that simple. Sometimes I just want to be alone and dont have any notifications. For example when I watch a movie or live stream.

Belle_Lobo  |  November 26th, 2014 at 11:41 pm

It is ridiculous to think that such a simple feature like this was not included as default. It is a must, so please patch it in asap, sony!

graham2333  |  December 3rd, 2014 at 4:41 pm

How can ANYONE but insecure people with boundary issues actually thumbs down this??? Every time I log into destiny I don’t want to be slammed with invites and people just randomly expecting me to entertain them.

This is the same reason I stopped playing diablo 3 (pc), just didnt have it in me to tell my friends to go away one more time. Rather just not play the game. I’m seriously considering buying an xbone because it has this feature.

UsedVCR  |  December 9th, 2014 at 1:02 pm

Come on, let us introverts play without being bothered. This is the only future that the Xbox 1 has over the PS4. Getting to play online without having to avoid friends when I feel like a solo session just seems obvious. Hopefully we see this in an update…

WHATABURGER012  |  December 10th, 2014 at 10:59 am

It pisses me off that the XBOX ONE has this feature PLUS many other that PlayStation does not! Its irritating when my cousin jumps on my ps4 to play split screen AW and he says things like “you guys (playstation community) don’t have that feature WE (xbox community) DO” or “playstation tells you when your friends join parties? Why? Thats CREEPY” and last but not least the infamous “dude this guy is in love with you. He keeps sending you party invites nonstop the second you get online”. I chose ps4 over the xbox one this year because of playstations promises to be a more better gaming console then the xbox ones media type agenda. What i came to discover when switching over consoles is that Playstation is VERY COMPLICATED an DISORGANIZED. It amazes me that I can get spammed in a group message and I can’t seem to find a SIMPLE feature that allows me to leave the chat group. WHY? It seems that this console is a jewel for stalkers and hackers who just want to see a console like the ps4 rise up in power to only see it fall back to the ground with a SIMPLE button that playstation has conveniently provided THEM (stalkers and hackers) with.

SITHWARRIOR-22  |  December 14th, 2014 at 2:08 am

please add this feature, its nice to play single player games and not get mass invites to to online games or you just don’t want people to know your playing

andre1129155840  |  December 22nd, 2014 at 10:45 pm

I’m new to ps4. I was an Xbox guy. Going from having this option to not having this option is no bueno. We all like our friends but sometimes you just don’t want to be bothered while playing certain games. Most of my friends are the types of guys that will bother you more and more if you don’t respond. They are the trolling type. Ghosting or appearing offline is the only answer.

andre1129155840  |  December 22nd, 2014 at 10:51 pm

Is there a hack to allow this? I say hack but mean has anyone found a bug to force or allow this?

Tiffaniee  |  January 4th, 2015 at 2:55 pm

actually questioning whether or not to get ps4 or xbox one because the ps4 doesnt even have this basic feature. xbox had this a long time ago.

EseChavaHD  |  January 4th, 2015 at 8:55 pm

With xbox as the competitor. I cant help but feel that sony is really foreign to the social aspect of gaming. This is a need.

ejosalc  |  January 8th, 2015 at 10:53 am

We need this feature for several reasons, privacy is a right. There are many games that need connection to PSN to be able to play. I dont want the world to know when the hell i am playing, i dont want to delete my friends from list, i just want to have offline status as in any other online app i have tried before.

Marcus-CCFC1987  |  January 10th, 2015 at 9:52 am

I would like to have privacy on my terms!!!!!

Bellalara  |  January 22nd, 2015 at 12:23 pm

Sony will forever take centuries to add important updates like this :/ I agree that this is well needed.

intensejames  |  February 1st, 2015 at 5:32 pm

PS4 really needs to add this feature were 2015…..

tempe7  |  February 5th, 2015 at 7:58 pm

sony i beg you, my friends are crazy, they even call me on phone and say to start the same game and enter in the party. add the invisible (but online) feature. NOW

Man-of-Leisure  |  February 6th, 2015 at 5:00 pm

This is a privacy concern Sony. Please don’t wait until something embarrassing happens to add the feature.

Turkishflavor  |  February 16th, 2015 at 2:23 am

haha pathetic.. XBOX ONE has this since Launch. even the old 360 has this Feature. lol
guess what, you can even CHANGE YOUR GAMETAG on xbox one and xbox 360 haha

CrimsonKnight193  |  February 18th, 2015 at 1:00 am

Yea I kinda want this feature. My friends are great guys and all and we make a great unit, but sometimes I just want to play by myself. I have a job were I deal with people and such all day, and sometimes when I get home I just want to mellow out and play all by myself. Not that I dont enjoy playing with friends, just not every single freaking time I turn on my ps4. And Im not going to just ignore their invites because a lot of them I know in real life, so it just becomes kind of awkward and I get a sense of guilt. It ultimately gets super annoying, resulting in me not getting to enjoy my console how I want. Some people just dont understand and I dont expect them to, but it is ridiculous that there has to be a vote for this. I bought a Ps4 to play games, not social media.
