Option to sort PS4 games into folders

Idea 73537 | Posted in , by | May 22, 2014

Add the option to un-clutter the Home Screen by allowing us to put games in folders similar to how the “TV & Video” is in its own folder/drop down menu.

Update 9/12/16: This feature was added in PS4 system software update 4.00.

This should have been included by default. Also, please allow us to choose the thumbnail for folders, as in picking which game

Scartoast  |  June 18th, 2014 at 1:01 am

Why would people be down voting this option? That is ridiculous.
Folders will help make the dashboard look sleek.

Kill3r_Conc3ptz  |  June 18th, 2014 at 10:20 am

I don’t care if it’s folders or how they choose to do it, but right now the UI is a never ending horizontal list of everything cluttered with no organization whatsoever. It really needs work.

sVybDy  |  June 19th, 2014 at 2:18 pm

I don’t think folders is enough. Folders work on PS3 because they sort alphabetically. PS4 needs true sorting/filtering options.

With this idea, you wouldn’t get any utility out of creating a folder for each individual game like PS3, because the horizontal bar would still be sorted by most recently used.

And if you put all your games in a “games” folder, they would all be sorted in some weird order, just like the TV & Video folder currently is.

An filtering/search option would be great.

YodaySunrider  |  June 30th, 2014 at 10:17 am

I keep seeing people say they want folders, but it makes zero sense to me. There is already a folder with all of your games in it, the problem is that it, along with the content bar, is a cluttered mess.

What we actually need are sorting/management options for the library, and a way to manage the content bar. The biggest options that the library needs are alphabetical and “last played” sorting options, a separate tab for apps, and the ability to delete demos. On the content bar we need an option for limiting the number of games/apps that show up on the bar (say an option for a max of 5, 10, or 20), as well as the ability to pin games and apps to the front of the bar.

As someone who buys everything digital, the fact that everything that is installed shows up on the same bar is an absolute nightmare, and we aren’t even one year in yet.

The PS4 UI is a mess, compared to PS3. This would definately clean it up and make it more organized. Please add this!

Rothox  |  July 23rd, 2014 at 3:04 pm

I got my PS4 on launch and literally the first thing I thought (after playing just 2 games) was, this is going to be an absolute mess in a year or two after the menu displays every game you’ve ever played!

PLEASE put games in the ‘Library’ app and only keep the game relating to the current inserted disk as its own shortcut icon!

Corbie  |  July 23rd, 2014 at 6:32 pm

If not folders, there HAS to be a better way than one, long ass continuous line of apps. Think what its going to be like with 100+ apps… You will never be able to find some game even if you know the name of it because it cant be sorted at all.

There could also be separate type of apps. Games should not be in the same group as Music and video unlimited or the headset app… etc etc..

ShadoSpawn  |  August 4th, 2014 at 3:38 am

Folders would be a great addition allowing PS4 users to categorically organize their games and apps. Over the course of a short period of time I will easily have tons games to sift through and that could become an inconvenience fast. Sony help us to stay organized and be sure to give us various customizable home screen options of doing so.

OrionDriver  |  September 4th, 2014 at 12:48 pm

I don’t need folders, I just need a way to filter, sort, and pin my favorites in a handy location. I think the easiest implementation would be to simply make a few more horizontal rows that we can scroll up and down to. Have a “favorites” row, a “media” row, etc. Just give us options, please. I don’t want everything in one long list.

OmniCloud  |  November 3rd, 2014 at 6:38 pm

I voted for this, but really, I just want more control of the UI. I like a clean desktop, a clean smartphone, a clean tablet, I keep all my electronics organized. PS4, is still too busy for me, the cap with 15 items in the cross media bar helps, but I would like to just have what I want pinned in the start menu, in the order I want, and with what apps/games I select.

Senjutsu_Dav  |  December 7th, 2014 at 10:19 pm

I would LOVE that. I already use this on the PS3, with the “albums”. I made a couple named “PS1 classics, PS3 games, PSN games, Demos”. I NEED this on PS4. Last time I checked my library, I found some really nice games I forgot about, as they were not in the last 10 or something like that. Right now, even apps are included in the games list… makes no sense to me.

techep3  |  January 26th, 2015 at 5:29 am

It needs to be done like ps3 with folders and multiple was top sort in the folders. This ui feels rushed and no effort put in or it was way over thought and influenced by social media and the their dumbing down effect.

joeboosauce  |  February 13th, 2015 at 3:40 pm

The PS3 XMB was great! I cannot believe some people thought it wasn’t. Folders? Maybe. There has to be a better way to organize this.

SwampWater2000  |  February 16th, 2015 at 2:27 pm

Please make folders or options for sorting

Omnitographer  |  May 27th, 2015 at 4:15 am

Full customization of the layout for the app bar is the way to go. I don’t want long strip of all my games, and I don’t want apps I never use to even be visible (eg a bunch of the perma-default stuff in the video folder).

chunt69  |  June 17th, 2015 at 3:32 pm

I think this is a food idea, a few sort options would be good like on android smartphone app grids. Sort by date, most used, last installed and even maybe a custom option.

Nakatomi_Uk  |  July 9th, 2015 at 5:29 pm

I have said this from the start they also need to give the ability to hide stuff I don’t want to see under TV & Video like WWE or whatever I don’t have installed. I would also like to hide the share factory and stuff I don’t and won’t use to trim down the home screen

Keyeszx  |  August 13th, 2015 at 2:01 pm

What needs to be done is allow us to pin apps or games to the bar. After 12 the least used app/game gets deleted. Like right now Rocket League, playstation live, and I believe batman arkham knight are all gone from the bar unless I go to library because they were least used.

What ideally would be done is allow us to pin apps/games to the menu, organize the order of the menu, maybe keep PS Store and What’s New stuck to the far left, and have more categories for the library app, also clean up the PS Video/TV “folder” I just want to have youtube, crunchyroll on the bar instead of navigating to the bottom of that “folder” even though I don’t have the other stuff.

So for library maybe have All Apps/Games | All Games, PS Now, PS4 Disc, PS4 Digital, Demos, Uninstalled Games(so they don’t clutter the other lists) | All Apps, Video Apps, Social Apps, Uninstalled Apps(same as games) ???(I’m not really sure how to break up the apps as all I use are youtube and crunchyroll.). The bars would be breaks in the category list.

I can’t believe this feature isn’t there yet. Even if the feature isn’t on top of the requested features, it should be extremely simple to add a folders feature or some kind of user customization.

Band2eto  |  September 4th, 2015 at 3:24 pm

This should be in the top 10 requested features, IMO..

bteamfox  |  September 29th, 2015 at 12:08 pm

Please add some sort of Folder Control or an option to Pin Games/App in the slots we want them. Maybe we could have and option to let us have 1-3 rows for our games/apps with the Pin function.

Please also letus Unpin the Sony Apps that Force themselves on the Row all the time, it’s so annoying. It’s my PS4 and I would like to show the items I want not titles Sony force me to see.

I love my PS4 and I would love it a lot more if this was added. 😀

truthseeker67  |  December 8th, 2015 at 10:49 pm

More generally, as others have stated, it needs to be possible to streamline the UI. Folders for organizing games, but also the ability to show/hide things we don’t want (and will never use) cluttering up menu.

I waited 2 years to buy a PS4, and wish I’d waited a little longer. The hardware upgrade is nice, but the UI is a giant step backward from the PS3.

NIQUE9376  |  January 3rd, 2016 at 9:46 pm

Confused why this isn’t a standard feature. I get the recently used thought process but there is no flow to the home screen.

CRAIG19C  |  April 16th, 2016 at 3:29 pm

It would be nice to keep all these icons organized in folders: Demos, PS Plus Games, Disc Games, etc. (Demos and full games should be separated in the Library anyway.)

Custom folders for Favorites and Backlog also. Then maybe leave all the misc apps set in-place so they don’t dance around every time I use one, or have a separate folder for them too (Share Factory, Headset App, Media Player, Capture Gallery, PlayStation Now, Vue, Video, Live from PS, Internet, etc.).

captainb1313  |  May 31st, 2016 at 11:16 pm

I like the idea of having multiple rows that you can organise yourself so it looks kindof like Netflix.i also would love if I could delete or hide stuff that shows in my library like beta demos other games I will never ever ever play again.

Dark_Enigma5  |  June 17th, 2016 at 6:55 pm

I love this idea, and want Sony to implement this in their future upcoming System Updates. I am a person who likes to have all of my games in one place, so I can easily access or switch between games quickly, within a few seconds gap.

INTERista_DMC  |  July 3rd, 2016 at 8:01 pm

Please add this feature i need this in my ps4

i don’t think we should wait all this time to be able to create a folder to organise our games

codename_Mamba  |  July 10th, 2016 at 9:29 pm

At this time, I have hundreds of games/demos/etc. to scroll through to locate things in my library. It is absurd, and has been a factor in deciding whether or not to purchase games.

That this wasn’t there at launch was a mistake. That it is still not there today is an absurdity considering the breadth of digital goods being sold on your store.

NickVQ  |  July 20th, 2016 at 8:13 pm

The Library folder also need an option to “hide” stuff. As it shows everything ever owned including betas that will never be used again.

NightCrawler-72  |  July 27th, 2016 at 6:41 am

Another badly needed feature.

I hope this is one of the new features that Sony implement in the upcoming System 4.00 update.

The PS4 dashboard right now is cluttered with stuff that I don’t care for or want to have to navigate through to get to the actual games that I’m interested in.
